Young Nicholas Guarigilia, a student at John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University in New Jersey has become a pundit on a variety of topics related to the Islam and the Middle East. He regularly posts at Global Politician and World Threats. In this Family Security Matters op ed he takes the Intelligence Community to task-for many good and sound reasons. Their assessments have been habitually flawed and as shown in the recent NIE report on nuclear Iran dangerously misleading, possibly emboldening Iran’s Ayatollahs and Mahdist President Ahmadinejad to hasten the development of nuclear weapons and the means of delivery. While I demur from Guarigilia’s comments about lack of evidence of WMD in Iraq, on-balance his comments are cogent for a tyro pundit. Witness this:

No intelligence agency in the world can claim to know what is, by its very nature, unknown (and perhaps unknowable), which underscores the point that making policy decisions based upon such variables is foolhardy
