LIVE, FROM THE BELLY OF THE BEAST
I just now arrived in Washington, DC, and am about to walk across the street to the CPAC conference. John McCain is scheduled to speak to the annual gathering of movement conservatives in a couple hours. THAT ought to be an interesting speech.
But what will be more interesting will be the reactions from conference delegates to what they hear. Will McCain win them over to the notion of his leading the GOP ticket in November? Stay tuned, Bat fans. Will report on the reactions, as well as other goings-on here over the next two days.
(Note: Just as I was about to send this out, the Wall Street Journal reports that Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign.)
In the meantime, I need your help.
As you know, a statewide universal school choice program was defeated in Utah last November after the national teachers union dumped truckloads of cash into the state to kill it. Supporters of the program were simply swamped by the money.
But what if a school choice/voucher program was put on the ballot this November and was backed by enough money to compete with the union cash? That’s where I need your help.
I wrote a column which will appear in the Nevada Appeal tomorrow titled “The New York Knicks of Education.” You can read it HERE right now, however, on my Muth’s Truths blog.
What I hope you’ll consider doing is posting on the blog every single objection, concern or reservation you have about school vouchers, and/or every and any arguments you’ve heard the anti-school choice crowd make in opposition to vouchers.
Also – especially if you live in states such as Utah, California and Florida where school choice initiatives have lost in the past – warn me about any dirty tricks, lies or misrepresentations you’ve seen or heard by the teachers union and other defenders of the status quo government monopoly over education.
I want to use this information to craft a new statewide universal school choice/voucher ballot initiative and campaign for this coming November. I want to be as precise as possible in drafting the language, and as prepared as possible for the attacks from the union sure to come once we move forward. And we’re hoping to “green light” this initiative as early as the end of next week, so time is of the essence.
If you prefer, please forward your comments directly to my email address at chuck@chuckmuth.com; however, by posting your comments on the blog, others might see something that sparks another idea in their heads, so it would be helpful if everyone pitched in on this one publicly. But either way, I really need your help and really want to hear from you.
OK, off to see the Wizard…
