RON PAUL’S BLIND BANK ROBBERS
Many of the Ron Paul supporters at the Nevada GOP convention in Reno this weekend were like blind bank robbers: You know someone is going to get shot; you just don’t know who…and it’s just as likely they’ll shoot one of their own.
That’s exactly the situation we’re seeing unfold as some of the more rabid Paulites vent their spleens against state Sen. Bob Beers – who served as state convention chairman in Reno over the weekend – and Nevada GOP Chairwoman Sue Lowden. Both are philosophical allies who have a strong libertarian-leaning streak. For Ron Paul people to attack them as “thugs” and “criminals” for how the election of delegates to the national convention went down Saturday evening is outrageous, in addition to being ignorant.
I cannot point out often enough or strongly enough that Chairwoman Sue Lowden is the ONLY Republican party chairman in the entire country to invite Ron Paul to speak at her state convention. The notion that she is hostile to Rep. Paul and tried to engineer a backroom plot to deny any of his supporters a place in Nevada’s delegation to the national convention in Minneapolis is as far away from the truth as some of these Ron Paul nuts are from reality.
In fact, I’m being told that a deal HAD been struck with the Paulites to include their supporters, along with supporters of McCain and Romney, on the slate of candidates for the 22 at-large delegate slots. But at the last minute Paul’s out-of-state coordinator, Jeff Greenspan, either reneged on the deal believing enough Ron Paul supporters had shown up to the convention to get all 22 slots, or Greenspan didn’t have the authority or ability to make the deal in the first place and the Ron Paul mob rolled right over him.
I don’t know. All I know is that Greenspan is now trying to say the party broke the deal. However, if you look at the slate the party put forward, it DID include Paul supporters. So Greenspan’s post-convention spin that a conspiracy existed to block Ron Paul people from going to the national convention doesn’t hold much water. This guy simply is not to be believed.
The problem with paranoia – and it runs deep in the Ron Paul camp – is that you see boogeymen behind every tree even when there’s nothing there. The Nevada GOP has gone out of its way to welcome Paul’s supporters and embrace them. Far more so than probably any other state party in the country. In return, Beers and Lowden are now being called every foul word in the book by loon platoons.
Just goes to prove that no good deed goes unpunished.
PAULITES UNGLUED
Here are some excerpts of posts on a Ron Paul blog showing why so many people think so many of the Ron Paul people are unhinged nutjobs…which some clearly are.
“Those commie Thugs are determined on destroying the Republican party,” writes one wingnut. “GOP Chairman State Senator Bob Beers who is also a McCain THUG was also an accomplice in the destruction of the NEVADA Republican party.”
Whoever this grammar-challenged jerk is clearly has no idea what he’s talking about. Bob Beers has been a staunch GOP party loyalist for more than a dozen years, serving as a volunteer Treasurer for the party and navigating it out of a huge FEC mess in the mid-90s. And unlike all too many other elected Republicans, Beers has continued to support the party and attend its events.
Here’s another thoughtful post from the same blog:
“On April 27th, 2008 e_goldstein says:
Supplies for future conventions should include
1. buckets of tar
2. large, thick bristled paint brushes
3. feather pillows.”
My. How original. How thoughtful. Didn’t you just split a gut reading that one? Here’s another from some idiot apparently from Ohio…
“So Reich deputy Beers belittles the biggest group of the Republican , being the Paul delegation and allies, and calls for an illegal recess since he is a McCrap supporter and his side was getting their tail kicked. . . . I have no faith that the Neo-Cons will seat our delegation at the convention. The Reich deputy will bus in every Neo-Con he knows, get them elected and then the Neo-Con national convention will seat their fellow Neo-Cons.”
“Reich deputy”? “McCrap”? “Neo-con”? And these people wonder why no one takes them seriously?
Another Einstein wrote, “Tonight We Fight. THIS IS Spaaaaarrrtttaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ”
No, this is more like SponnngeBobbbbbb SquaaaaarrrrrrePaaaaaannnnnnttttttssss!
On a different blog, another English major wackadoo going by the moniker “quiltingsando” scribbles, “This is Criminal behavior, Beers an the others should be arrested. Peace.”
Now, the unfortunate thing about all this is that many TRUE Ron Paul/limited-government supporters (like myself) are being tarnished by nitwits like the ones noted above. These bozos have no idea what Bob Beers’ voting record or philosophy is or what he’s done for the party over many, many years. And yet they’re now urging people to donate to his DEMOCRAT opponent. Talk about stuck on stupid.
These people give Ron Paul a bad name. They give his libertarian-leaning philosophy a bad name. And they give insane people a bad name.
WELL, THAT DIDN’T TAKE LONG
As it turns out, no one challenged Washoe County GOP chieftess Heidi Smith for the position of Republican National Committeewoman. And as her first act after being elected on Saturday, Smith promptly threw John McCain under the bus.
In an interview with Reno Gazette-Journal reporter Anjeanette Damon concerning this weekend’s Nevada state GOP convention, Smith slammed the party’s presidential nominee’s organization, demanding, “Where was the McCain campaign? And where were their signs? If Ron Paul’s people walked in with signs, why couldn’t the McCain people walk in with signs?”
And some people wonder why some other people were desperately trying to find someone other than the acerbic Heidi Smith for Republican National Committeewoman?
The silver lining here might be that the Nevada Republican Party convention isn’t over; it’s only recessed. And a convention can pretty much do whatever the heck it wants to do. So if someone wants to reopen the race for national committeewoman when the convention re-convenes, and enough delegates vote to do so, I believe it might still be possible for the party to elect someone else to that position.
Does anyone have a copy of Robert’s Rules handy? And where’s that phone number for Dema Guinn?
Sphere It
