High school football coach reaches day 5 of round-the-clock vigil, Wants town hall forum with Congressman, Democrat Rep. Zack Space continues to ignore protest

Zanesville, Ohio – After sleeping on Fourth Street through Ohio’s coldest August night on record, Coach Dave Daubenmire remains resolute.

“I’m not going anywhere,” says the Fairfield Christian Academy football coach. “I break for practice from 2 to 6 PM, then I come straight back to the sidewalk. I’m not leaving until Congressman Zack Space holds a legitimate town hall meeting to hear his constituents’ concerns.”

If a silent Congressman and forty degree nights don’t stop Coach, one must ask, what will?

“I miss my bed,” answers Coach. “I miss my wife, but she believes in what I’m doing. I’ll go home when Zack Space does his job. He can’t represent the people if he won’t listen to them.”

Space’s office counters that he held a town hall meeting yesterday with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack at the Muskingum County Welcome Center. http://www.whiznews.com/article.php?articleId=26922 But Coach sees things differently.

“No one knew about it,” says Coach. “You can’t have a secret meeting, then proclaim that you’ve held a town hall. I’m sleeping outside Congressman Space’s office. They know I’m here. They know why I’m here. If it was a legitimate town hall, they would have invited everyone, and I’d be sleeping at home tonight.”

Instead, Coach will continue to spend his evenings on his makeshift cot, assembled from the removable backseat of his red 1999 Plymouth Voyager minivan. Tonight will be Coach’s fifth, sleeping on fourth street beneath the stars and the gilded Congressional Seal hung outside Representative Zack Space’s office.

Coach’s vigil has already garnered local, regional and national coverage including his hometown Ohio news media to California in the west, Louisiana in the South and New Jersey in the East.

“I’m glad people are paying attention,” says Coach. “But I’m not here for myself. I’m doing this for my kids and grandkids. They – and the American people – deserve a representative government.”
