(Las Vegas, NV) – This evening, former Nevada State Senator and current Nevada Republican Party Chairman Sue Lowden announced on a regularly-scheduled conference call with state GOP leaders that she will be stepping down from her position, effective September 30, 2009.

“Tonight, I announced that I will be stepping down, effective September 30th, as the Nevada Republican Party Chairman. The reason for my decision is that I am currently testing the waters on the possibility of running for U.S. Senate. Because we already have some announced Republican candidates for the 2010 Senate campaign, I believe it is important to remove any perceptions of possible conflicts with my duties as Chairman.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve as the chair of our Nevada Republican Party for the past 18 months. We have so many dedicated men and women who work tireless hours – attending events, registering voters, helping candidates get elected and involving themselves in important policy debates. I applaud each of them for the time they give.

“I want to thank all the Republicans who have supported me as Chairman, and even those who have offered constructive criticism along the way.

“Citizens who involve themselves in our democracy and political process are true patriots. I admire all those who step up, no matter their Party affiliation, and dedicate their time to get involved in the issues that affect us all. Nevadans never lose with a spirited and honest debate of the issues impacting our families.

“I’ve always said that it’s one thing to complain, yet entirely different to get in the ring. Both as a state senator and as Party chairman, I have always been willing to put my words to action. Nevadans can trust that I plan to stay as engaged as ever, fighting for the issues that affect us all.”
