When Rep. Bill Posey (FL-R) stepped out to greet his constituents — 2000 of them, they erupted in applause and gave him a standing ovation.

When was the last time you saw that happening at a Town Hall meeting of late?

Congressional District 15, which includes Brevard County – the “Space Coast”, has a lot of respect for the guy who is one of them. They believe the freshman congressman is doing the best job he can to protect their interests and the Constitution. And they let him know it.

Wednesday night an overflow crowd of 400 more were directed into an adjoining room to hear Posey and a panel of nine health care professionals give their perspective on Obama’s Health Care Reform bill. An AARP representative was a “no show”. The announcement was met with loud boos.

Panel members (physicians, Florida state reps, Heritage Foundation expert, and health care providers) were given 3 to 5 minutes to outline impediments and recommended solutions: tort reform, exclude coverage for illegals; portability.

All agree the Obama/Democrat bill will exacerbate the problems. Voters also were largely in agreement that any bill passed by Congress must apply to them as well. “Let them live with it too”, one voter yelled as the audience rose to yet another standing ovation when Posey said he was an original cosponsor of a bill that would do just that.

Attendees filled out index cards with concerns they wanted Posey to address. The cards were dropped into a fish bowl, from which Posey’s wife Katy randomly picked about a dozen or more.

Florida Today has an article about the two hour event, which was, for the most part, civilized.

You can hear an “after action” report about it on my radio program with Kristinn Taylor of Free Republic.com and me linked here. WESH-TV reported there were “hundreds” at the event. “Hundreds”… laughable.
