THE DECIDEDLY UNHAPPY MAINSTREAM PATRIOTS REJECTING EVIL-MONGERING INCOMPETENT DEMOCRATS PAC

  • The Nevada Democrat Party put out a newsletter on Thursday talking about the complaint they reportedly filed with the FEC against the Decidedly Unhappy Mainstream Patriots Rejecting Evilmongering Incompetent Democrats Political Action Committee, aka DUMPREID PAC, last week. Continuing the party’s propensity for getting their facts wrong, the newsletter refers to me as a “longtime Republican operative.” Apparently they missed a memo. I haven’t been a Republican for well over two years now.
  • The body isn’t even dead yet, let alone cold and buried, but some Democrats are already salivating over the possibility that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could lose next year and a “real” Democrat would replace him as leader. As Las Vegas columnist Jon Ralston points out this morning, Lefties are already excitedly talking about a leadership fight between Sen. Dick Durbin and Sen. Chuck Schumer to replace Reid. And as Ralston notes, “Just the fact that such colloquies are occurring 400 days before an election tells you how much trouble Reid is perceived to be in.
  • Former moderate GOP Rep. Jon Porter – who took himself out of the Harry Reid race last year in order to pursue a lucrative post-congressional career as fat-cat K-Street lobbyist – is reportedly sniffing around DC testing the waters for getting into the race after all. While at one time long ago a Porter candidacy might have cleared the field, now that there are at least four credible, viable GOP candidates in the race (or expected to be in the race) – Angle, Tarkanian, Amodei and Lowden – a Porter candidacy makes no sense whatsoever, especially since he’d be crushed in a statewide primary dominated by conservatives.
  • In case anyone still has any doubts as to whether or not soon-to-be former Nevada GOP Chairman Sue Lowden is going to jump into the Harry Reid race with both feet next month, check out www.SueLowden.com.
  • GOP senatorial candidate Sharron Angle will host a town hall forum this Wednesday, Sept. 23rd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The event will be held at the Summerlin Library, located at 1771 Inner Circle Drive in Las Vegas. For additional information, please visit www.SharronAngle.com or contact Jerry Stacy, 775-846-800.
  • Attorney Chuck Kozak is expected to announce his campaign for U.S. Senate in a series of appearances Monday in Reno, Las Vegas and Elko. For more information contact Jaclyn Kaiser at (253) 230-5530.
  • “(Danny) Tarkanian is one of several Republicans who have either declared their candidacies or are eyeing a challenge to (Harry) Reid in 2010,” reported CNN Political Editor Mark Preston this week. “(He) is the frontrunner, at least for now, in a crowded GOP primary field.” However, “Tarkanian may lose his frontrunner status once former Nevada Republican Party Chair Sue Lowden formally declares her candidacy, says Nevada political expert Jon Ralston. ‘She has a much better profile to beat Harry Reid,’ Ralston said. ‘She has to be seen as the favorite in the primary.’”
  • The New York Times reported last week that Wall Street banker John Chachas has filed the necessary paperwork for the Reid race. Chachas, who grew up in Ely but lives in New York, told the Times that “Nevada is home in every way to me.” Except for, you know, actually living here. Or working here. Or moving his own family here. Or his kids going to school here. Or shopping here. Or paying taxes here. Or campaigning here. Or fundraising here. Or doing media interviews here. But other than that, Nevada is his home in every way.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“There is no path to victory that I can paint (for John Chachas). There is no evidence in the history of the state that a guy can come in, who is unknown, and spend a boatload of money to buy a Senate seat.”

- Nevada political pundit Jon Ralston
