FedEx Express’s express package-delivery air/ground workforce is treated differently under the law than its competitors’ express package-delivery air/ground workforces. And this unequal treatment under the law gives FedEx Express a tremendous marketing advantage over its competitors. Read more…

OTHER NEVADA NEWS

MUTH’S TRUTHS

  • Former Massachusetts Governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney will endorse Pennsylvania Senate candidate Pat Toomey in a press conference in Philadelphia tomorrow. Toomey is the Republican candidate running against Democrat Sen. “Snarlin’” Arlen Specter, who earlier this year quit the GOP and became a Democrat solely because he knew he’d lose in a Republican primary race against Toomey.
  • According to Charles Mitchell of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, “only 31 percent of college graduates can read and understand a complex book” and college seniors “perennially fail tests of their civic and historical knowledge.” Makes you proud of our government-run public schools, doesn’t it?
  • Speaking of the public schools, another study by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice found “alarming rates of dissatisfaction among public school teachers” compared to their private school counterparts, including “lower job satisfaction.” Go figure.
  • In the meantime, education in this country is going through a subtle but very significant change. Virtual schooling, also called distance learning, is growing by leaps and bounds. According to a recent American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) report, “the number of students currently using online courses is estimated to be more than a million, a 47 percent increase since 2006.” God bless Al Gore for inventing the Internet.
  • Rumor has it that GOP gadfly and Sen. Dennis Nolan’s mini-me Nathan “Li’l Nate” Taylor is mulling a run for the Assembly District 13 seat being vacated by Assemblyman Chad Christensen. Oh, please run, Nathan. PLEASE! I’ll even try to get James Campos to run your campaign for you!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

  • “Some have said that Harry Reid is too big to fail! My response: Harry Reid has already failed, leaving Americans and Nevadans as a statistic in the unemployment component of the misery index.” – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle
  • “Yet while the (David) Letterman saga has unleashed a tsunami of coverage, serious allegations involving Sen. John Ensign have barely produced a trickle.” – Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post on how two similar sex scandals have been covered by the media
  • “Even the Republicans are starting to turn on him (Sen. John Ensign) at this point. He may have gone off the edge this time. That is a sign that you have suffered unsustainable political damage.” – Pollster Brad Coker
