- Nancy Dallas e-Interviews Ray Masayko – Ray Masayko is seeking the Republican nomination for the Capital state Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Mark Amodei (term-limited). The seat includes portions of Douglas, Carson, Lyon and Story Counties. At this time there is one other declared GOP candidate, Assemblyman James Settelmeyer.
- Every Republican in Congress Supports Reform (Republican Leader Mitch McConnell) – One of my predecessors as Republican leader of the Senate, Everett Dirksen, once advised a colleague that he would be a lot more effective if he occasionally allowed himself “the luxury of an unexpressed thought.” On the issue of health care, I haven’t followed that advice.
- Is Reid for Nevada – or Just from Here? (Mark Noonan) – Harry Reid was first elected to theUnited States Senate from Nevada in 1986. In 2010, he will be seeking his 5th term. Having spent most of his adult life in Politics, Reid is very much an “inside” man. He knows politics. He lives and breaths politics. In fact, so entirely political is Reid that he said not too long ago that everything he has done since his re-election in 2004 has been geared towards his re-election effort in 2010.

- Breaking News: “Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election,” Politico is reporting, “a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her two opponents — Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens.”
- In the New Jersey governor’s race, the Republican candidate was asked why he would cut to close the state’s $8 billion budget gap rather than increase taxes. Chris Christie responds that “there’s room to cut education without hitting classrooms” and that there are “too many assistant superintendents, too many curriculum directors at the central office.” Gee, I wonder if the same applies here in Nevada?
- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chuck Kozak sent out a press release on Friday announcing that he would be attending the Geraldo-like opening of a missing and meaningless ballot box from the Nevada GOP convention a year and a half ago. In doing so, Kozak has aligned himself with a small, paranoid fringe element of the Ron Paul camp, buying into the notion that there was some super-secret conspiracy by “the Republican establishment” in Nevada “to keep a stranglehold on power.” That notion gives the Republican establishment in Nevada WAY too much credit, as almost nothing it does is ever organized or planned. Obviously Kozak knows nothing about establishment GOP politics here.
- Kozak also used the Case of the Missing Ballot Box to take a shot at the GOP frontrunner in the Reid race, saying, “All the facts are not in yet and I believe we will learn more about the scandal after today’s event, so I can’t say with certainty that former Chair (Sue) Lowden was involved in some type of fraudulent act but as the old saying goes, ‘If it walks like a duck and talks like duck…’, well you know the rest.’ Kozak concluded.” Scandal? Hardly. But I wonder if any such “scandals” might exist in Mr. Kozak’s past? You know, I might just have to follow up on a lead now….
