Former Ariz. congressman plans run against McCain

This week, Nevada Republican Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki announced that Arizona Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) had recruited him to enter the United States Senate race in Nevada this year. The Associated Press reports tonight:

“Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth says he’s planning to run against John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat. Hayworth told The Associated Press late Friday that he stepped down as host of his radio program on KFYI-AM, a conservative radio talk show in Phoenix. He says he wouldn’t have been able to remain host of the program while running against McCain.”

“Hayworth says he’s not formally announcing a run for the Senate seat, but that ‘we’re moving forward to challenge John McCain.’ He added that he’s had a wonderful time at KFYI, but ‘it’s time to enter public life again.'”

THAT ought to make Hayworth’s appearance at the Washoe County Lincoln Day Dinner next month a LOT more interesting.
