DAVENPORT, IOWA

God bless every one of these Quad Cities patriots who came out to welcome us this morning here at River Park in Bettendorf, a suburb of Davenport, Iowa.

I began my remarks to the crowd today by quoting from the New York Times:

“President Obama said Monday that he was revamping American nuclear strategy to substantially narrow the conditions under which the United States would use nuclear weapons. Obama described his policy as part of a broader effort to edge the world toward making nuclear weapons obsolete, and to create incentives for countries to give up any nuclear ambitions. To set an example, the new strategy renounces the development of any new nuclear weapons, overruling the initial position of his own defense secretary.

For the first time, the United States is explicitly committing not to use nuclear weapons against nonnuclear states that are in compliance with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, even if they attacked the United States with biological or chemical weapons or launched a crippling cyber attack.”

If you wish for peace, prepare for war. In other words, peace through strength. Because a strong society is less likely to be attacked by enemies.

Anna and Freedom — sisters who are homeschooled — were there, participating in something historic.

ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS

By our headcount, there were close to 1400 who were waiting for us when our buses rolled into Davis Park in Rockford. It was a surreal setting. The park was bracketed by the Rock River on one side and abandoned, derelict factory buildings on the other.

As we approached the city limits, the Patriot Guard motorcyclists accompanied us in, blocking intersections to hold back traffic and let us pass through any and all red lights. It was the first escort we’ve had so far on the tour, and it was a thrill to see them riding at our flanks, wingmen in black leather flying the red, white and blue.

Marathon Pundit John Ruberry and Andrea finally got to meet each other. John has some great posts up at his site about the day’s event.

MADISON, WISCONSIN

On a cool, damp, raw and windy evening, some 300 hardy souls came out to rally with the Tea Party Express. Ann Althouse was there and posted about it at her site.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that the rally was held at a parking lot on U.S. Senate candidate Terrence Wall’s property.
