“An Exercise in Power” – the Evil Empire Strikes Back

The Communist Party USA and Democratic Socialists of America have realized their mistake.

After working hard to elect their long time friend and ally, Barack Obama in 2008, the Marxists relaxed a little and waited for “change” to come. They didn’t figure on the level of resistance their programs would generate via Glenn Beck, the Tea Party movement and patriotic elements in the Republican Party.

Realizing that their socialist agenda hangs in the balance, the Communists and DSA are working overtime to re-invigorate the Obama coalition – both to counter the Tea Party and to keep the Democrats in power after the looming mid-term elections.

Discounting the obvious lies and propaganda, there is a serious message in this article on DSA official, Eliseo Medina, from the Communist Party USA’s latest Peoples World:

The 567 organizations and groups that turned out several hundred thousand people for the “One Nation” march in Washington on Oct. 2 will try to stay together to work on each other’s causes after the Nov. 2 election, a top union participant says.

In an interview with Press Associates during the march, new Service Employees International Union secretary-treasurer Eliseo Medina added that for many of the groups involved, it would mean “getting out of the silos” of their own causes.

The coalition, including SEIU, the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, the teachers, the National Nurses Union, the Communications Workers, the Transport Workers Union and many other national and local unions, got behind the march for two reasons.

One was to show that progressives can muster more numbers than the radical right tea party zealots of radio talker Glenn Beck and GOP politician Sarah Palin. They led a similar march at the Lincoln Memorial – site of the Oct. 2 rally – several weeks before.

The other was to energize the progressive forces for the final days of the 2010 election campaign.

Medina made it clear the coalition will extend beyond the election. “This is an exercise in power,” he explained…

Medina admitted that energy and enthusiasm among progressives had slacked off in the last two years, after the 2008 election brought Democratic President Barack Obama into office, accompanied by Democratic majorities in Congress – all elected with heavy labor support.

“There was such a sense of excitement in 2008. We forgot and left everything to Obama,” he said.

“But then we saw issue after issue – health care, tax cuts for the middle class, immigration reform – go down” to Senate GOP filibusters and obstructionism. The groups then “realized we had to do something, but organizing takes time,” veteran organizer Medina admitted.

The left knows exactly what is at stake here.

The Tea Party and its allies also understands that this election could decide the future of America forever.

The big question is – which way will the center vote in November?

The Electric Tea Party Acid Test

This is a memo to America’s hippies:

Tea Party values are hippie values.

You heard me right. The Tea Party is the one social movement in contemporary America that can rightfully claim to be the ideological heir to the original hippie movement that started in the mid-’60s. And because of this, all current hippies and ex-hippies should support the Tea Party, and by extension Tea Party candidates.

I’d like to have a private heart-to-heart talk with my fellow hippies here, so can the rest of you please stop reading now and leave us alone for a while? Thanks.

News Flash: Life Isn’t Fair!

By: Nancy Morgan

Just after Obama was elected president, I asked my niece, Sarah, to tell me, in one word, why she voted for him. She thought about it for awhile, and then replied, “equality.”

Sarah is a newly minted Ph.D., a recent product of government schools and a very smart woman. Not surprisingly, she has adopted the progressive’s outlook as her own. To her credit, she is concerned with others less fortunate than herself. She is concerned with fairness and equality. She is genuinely compassionate and strives to do the right thing.

Unfortunately, like millions of Americans, Sarah has been led to believe that Obama has the ability to make life more just. She seems to believe that the leftist template of “social justice” will finally result in equality and justice for all. I give her credit for her concern and I applaud her interest in others. I also look forward to the day when she has enough life experience to realize that life will never be fair. That people will never be “equal.”

Fairness and equality are subjective concepts whose definitions differ depending on whom is doing the defining. The kicker is words that can mean anything end up meaning nothing.

Equality, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. It is a lovely concept, but the devil is in the details.

Here’s a news flash: Life isn’t fair and people are not equal. And history shows that any and all attempts to make it fair and equal – from socialism to communism to Marxism – have been dismal failures. What Sarah wasn’t taught in school is that countries that are free, are not equal. And countries that are equal, are not free.

America is unique and prosperous because our country offers the only equality achievable by man: equality of opportunity and equality before the law. At least we used to. In an effort to make life fair for all, Obama’s agenda has resulted undermining two of the most important pillars of our society – the rule of law and the right to own private property.

Unelected czars have been given the ability to change the rules on a whim. Government bureaucrats have been given unprecedented power over the formerly free market, with the ability to confiscate (nationalize) any business that doesn’t conform to ever-changing standards imposed by political fiat. Our own Department of Justice has flatly stated that the rules governing election fraud are there only for disenfranchised blacks, not whites.

By arbitrarily changing the rules that govern our society, Obama and his fellow progressives have thrown the country into turmoil. Imagine being in the middle of a high stakes game and all of a sudden, the rules change. Heads they win, and tails, you lose. How “fair” is that?

In Obama’s world, some people are more equal than others. (Can you spell “unions”?) By stacking the deck in favor of one group at the expense of another, in the name of fairness and equality, Obama’s policies have resulted in a less equal and less fair America.

What my niece Sarah doesn’t realize is that all rights come with attendant responsibilities. One man’s right not to be offended means that another man’s right to voice his opinion is infringed upon. One man’s right to free housing means another man’s right to keep the fruits of his own labor is diminished. As Thomas Sowell states, there are no solutions, only trade-offs.

Obama has convinced many Americans that he has the ability to bestow unlimited rights. Like a weekend dad, Obama feeds his ‘children’ ice cream, lavishes them with toys, and lets them stay up all night. He leaves to mom (Republicans) the much harder task of teaching the reality that there are no free lunches, that rights are not free when they are paid for by others, and that life isn’t fair. It never has been, and never will be.

Thousands of small businesses and millions of Americans are sitting on billions of dollars, refusing to invest their hard-earned money because this administration has stacked the deck in favor of whoever has the most political clout. Why risk capital when the rules can be changed on a whim? Why hire a new employee when it is impossible to estimate how costly their health-care package will be?

I only hope that my niece Sarah, and the rest of America’s progressives, realize sooner rather than later, that all of man’s attempts to attain utopia, world peace, and equality for all are not only futile, but risk destroying the hard-won equality of opportunity and equality before the law that America has spent over 200 years developing.

Grateful for Thick Gloves

By: T F Stern
T F Stern’s Rantings

This past weekend was General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thomas S. Monson, President of the Church, gave a talk on Sunday about gratitude. After reminding us of the lepers who’d been healed by the Lord, only one of whom expressed gratitude, President Monson continued:

“My brothers and sisters, do we remember to give thanks for the blessings we receive? Sincerely giving thanks not only helps us recognize our blessings, but it also unlocks the doors of heaven and helps us feel God’s love.”

“My beloved friend President Gordon B. Hinckley said, “When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance and conceit and egotism, you walk with a spirit of thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives.”’

Tonight I wish to express my gratitude for being able to catch the last female feral Hobo Kitty, Jaws. There must have been divine intervention. We’d captured Puddin’ Head earlier without much fuss and have her tucked away in the kitchen nook. We’ll transport her to the veterinarian early tomorrow to be “fixed.”

The hard one to catch was Jaws, who wouldn’t go near the traps we’d set. She escaped my clutches earlier and scrambled away. I had her for half a moment and I was glad I was wearing thick leather gloves, as she clawed and scratched with all her might, finally squirming out of my grip. She stayed out of sight for a couple of hours.

Later this evening I tricked Jaws by offering treats; something which caused her to forget her cautions. Treats were being distributed to all the Hobo Kitties, as we do most every evening. As she got closer, I tossed a couple of treats into the washroom, making sure to bounce them off the front of the dryer so they’d make extra noise. Jaws ran past the threshold and snatched up the crunchy morsels; but she was too far inside to beat the door being closed, I had her.

I went back into the garage and retrieved the heavy leather gloves; all the while Jaws was literally bouncing off the walls trying to escape. Lucy stood at the ready as I made sure to enter the washroom without letting Jaws get past, not an easy feat. Jaws jumped atop the washing machine, dryer and against the back door, climbed the walls and let out a terrible odor as she scrambled in vain.

A couple of times I latched on to her, but she put up such a fuss that I had to let her go; either that or crush her small body against the floor trying to hold on. I eventually got hold of her in such a way as to make it difficult for her hind legs to tear into anything other than the thick leather gloves. I had Lucy open the washroom door and I quickly deposited Jaws into the waiting cage. We’d won and if I didn’t express my gratitude for having the protection of a thick pair of work gloves then shame on me.

President Monson had another line which applies directly to our efforts this evening:

“When we encounter challenges and problems in our lives, it is often difficult for us to focus on our blessings. However, if we reach deep enough and look hard enough, we will be able to feel and recognize just how much we have been given.”

We’ve been able to catch all the female Hobo Kitties making sure they aren’t having more kittens. We’ve even captured two of the three male Hobo Kitties and had them fixed as well. We enjoy watching these amazing creatures; but consider it our civic duty to inhibit their endless propensity to breed.

That leaves Morris, Jaws’ twin brother; and he can wait. The female Hobo Kitties were the ones who needed to be removed from the gene pool right away and that has been accomplished. I’m not sure what happened in the Philly/Reds game during all the commotion. I think somebody hit a home run, big deal; we caught Jaws.
