America changed overnight in a very big way. Based upon election results at this moment, sixty percent of our country will now be led by Republican Governors. That number may grow as a few states with uncertain election results are solidified.
Yesterday, there were 37 Governor’s races and Republicans won 24 of them. Democrats took only nine, Independents took one and three are too close to call at this moment (Connecticut, Minnesota and Vermont).
This is an absolutely stunning loss for Democrats who, prior to the election, held 26 states to the 24 held by Republicans.
The balance of power has shifted and this will impact the 2012 elections as well as redistricting that will occur in each state as a result of the 2010 Census.
Another benefit may be that Obamacare finds itself under greater pressure… some of the states that the Democrats lost may decide to join the ongoing set of lawsuits to defeat Obamacare.
Of the 37 gubernatorial races last night, Republicans won the following (so far):
- Alabama
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Florida
- Georgia
- Idaho
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Maine
- Michigan
- New Mexico
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- Ohio
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Utah
- Wisconsin
- Wyoming
States which are still held by Republicans:
- Indiana
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- New Jersey
- North Dakota
- Virginia
This is the kind of change we can believe in! Americans have sent a clear message to the President and all 535 members of Congress.
Although President Obama doesn’t appear to have grasped this clear message yet, we will continue to remind those in Congress so that we can return to a government that is of, by and for the people. Those who persist in ignoring the will of the people will feel the results when they’re up for re-election.
The gubernatorial power shift achieved in yesterday’s election represents a stunning loss for Democrats and a triumph for the American people.
Now is the time to repeal the 17th amendment and give the Senate back to the states. That way the Senators may be appointed by the states and recalled at their pleasure. This would reign in a Senate run amok.
How about a Constitutional amendment outlawing national health care? Along with two more amendments, one outlawing gay marriage, and the other imposing term limits on Senators and Congressmen.
Term limits are a necessity! Obamacare can be stopped by the Congress… if they don’t appropriate the funds to feed that monstrosity, it can’t be implemented. It can then be fully repealed after the 2012 election when we elect a President that we know won’t veto a repeal.
