Is Don Carson’s Attack on Kosher Slaughter Politically Motivated?

Don Carson

Prominent New Zealand activist/journalist, Don Carson is an implacable enemy of Israel.

His latest line of attack on both Israel and Judaism comes through his acting CEO position in New Zealand Islamic Meat Management, a Halal (Muslim) certifier for the New Zealand meat export industry.

New Zealand’s new animal welfare code, which took effect Friday 28th May, mandates that all animals for commercial consumption be stunned prior to slaughter This means that Kosher Slaughtering (Shechita) can not be legally performed in New Zealand.

This has understandably upset many in New Zealand’s small Jewish community and has sparked a campaign to overturn the law. Many Jews feel that this ban will discourage Jewish immigration to New Zealand and may even lead some of our existing population to leave.

Strangely, Don Carson felt compelled to weigh into the debate

In an op-ed in The Dominion post of December 9 2010; entitled Religious obligation should not extend to painful animal slaughter, Carson wrote:

It is nonsense to threaten that a ban on Shechita slaughter, as currently practiced, imperils the future of the Jewish community here. An insistence on causing severe distress to animals is an extraordinarily narrow foundation of ethnic identity.

Why did Don Carson believe he needed to attack Shechita practices? Why did he enter a debate that is on the face of it, none of his concern?

Is Carson’s attack on Shechita really motivated by animal welfare considerations, or is there something more sinister at play here? Is he, in actual fact, attacking New Zealand’s Jewish community for political reasons?

Don Carson’s background may give some clues to his current position.

All through the 1970s and 1980s Don Carson was very close to the Maoists of the Wellington Marxist-Leninist Organization and its successor, the Workers Communist League. The Maoists were militantly anti-Israel and very pro-Palestinian and effectively ruled student politics in the capital for many years.

In 1976 Carson, representing the NZ University Students Association, put a motion at the Thailand meeting of the Maoist dominated Asian Students Association, that Israel be expelled from the organization.

On August 12 1982, Don Carson from the Wellington Palestine Committee, addressed a meeting of the Maoist-dominated “aid agency” CORSO in Wellington, where he condemned the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. By 1985, Carson was active in the still existing Wellington Palestine Group, an organization dominated by Maoists, some pro-Soviet communists and radical Muslims. Carson, representing the W.P.G., spoke at the communist-instigated South Pacific Conference for Peace & Justice in Central America 18-19 July, 1987, in “Wellington on South Africa and Israel as props for dictatorships.”

Wellington Palestine Group Demonstration

In the early 1990s, Carson regularly appeared on New Zealand TV promoting the anti-American line during the first Gulf War. On August 13, 1990, he was Interviewed in the pro-Soviet Socialist Unity Party’s Tribune newspaper on the Gulf crisis. “Don Carson, who has an active and long term interest in the Middle East, discussed the history of Iraq with Tribune.”

In 1996, Don Carson addressed the far left Victoria University Human Rights Group on his recent visit to Palestine.

By the 2000s, Carson was very close to the Anti-Capitalist Alliance/NZ Workers Party, another militantly pro-Palestine Marxist-Leninist organization.

In 2002, over Labor Weekend, Carson spoke to the Anti-Capitalist Alliance national educational and organizational weekend on US policy in the Middle East as “leading member of the Wellington Palestine Group.” Carson also spoke on “Palestine human rights” at the Workers Party’s Marxism 2007 conference in Auckland.

On September 12, 2009 Don Carson and Mike Walker of the Workers Party addressed a Victoria University screening of a documentary on the life of infamous Palestinian terrorist Laila Khaled.

In my opinion, Don Carson views Israel as a major impediment to Palestinian/communist domination of the Middle East. Part of isolating and eventually destroying Israel is to turn Israel’s allies against her.

New Zealand has long been a good friend of Israel, but we also have a huge halal meat trade with the Muslim world. Communist strategy is clearly to use our meat trade to orient us more towards the Arab world and away from Israel.

If New Zealand’s Jewish community can be demoralized, or even partially driven out of the country, it will be much easier to orient New Zealand’s foreign policy away from Israel and towards the Muslim world.

Carson does have some experience in these tactics. In the early 1970s, he was active in the successful Maoist campaign to make New Zealand abandon Taiwan and recognize the Chinese communists as the legitimate government of China.

In March 1976, as International Vice-president of the New Zealand University Students Association, Carson was telegraphed by the acting head of the Asian division of the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who stated that Taiwan would be henceforth regarded as a province of Mainland China.

Don Carson is motivated by animal welfare?

Yeah right.

Jeff Nyquist – “The Implacable Enemy”

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

Jeff Nyquist is one of the best, no B.S. writers on international affairs and security matters around. He is not for the faint-hearted.

Here’s his latest column from Financial Sense – “The Implacable Enemy”:

We don’t want to believe in enemies, and if we grudgingly allow that they exist, we certainly will not admit they are implacable. It is odd, perhaps, but we live at a time in history when people believe in solutions to everything. In fact, men have solved so many problems in the last 200 years that we imagine all problems have solutions. Unfortunately, this is an error we must guard against. It is, in fact, an all-pervasive error which has serious consequences for our time.

Related to this subject, the Jerusalem Post recently published a column titled Editor’s Notes: The Bleak Logic of Bennie Begin. The piece includes an interview with an Israeli politician who is unwilling to delude himself about Israel’s present situation. The peace process is not going to work, Begin says. It does not take proper account of the Palestinian leadership. These sorry folk want to eradicate Israel, and the peace process is merely a cynical ploy on the part of a cynical foe. Grasping these fundamental points, Begin is a man of logic, a man of simple truth. He is not an ideologue, because ideology properly belongs to those who believe in dangerous fairy tales.

A few structural points stand out in Begin’s discourse. First, people don’t usually change, and that includes enemies; second, a peaceful solution is not always workable; and third, the aim of an implacable enemy is to eliminate you, and this is not merely a “problem” open to endless discussion. War is a reality, and you simply have to fight. In this situation talking to your enemy is always an exercise in self-deception. This last point has come to be universally rejected by Western politicians. They do not see how discussions of this kind effectively hypnotize the masses, and fill people’s heads with false expectations. In reality, the only solution is the military solution. But those who dream of peace see military conflict as the problem.

It is no wonder that Begin was against the Oslo peace process, saying that the PLO leadership “will never change.” In fact, they never have. The Palestinian leaders are implacable enemies of Israel. This is not so difficult to see, though it is difficult to admit for those who believe in peace. It is sad to say, but there cannot be a successful peace process with such an enemy. For such an enemy, peace is merely an interlude of talking, useful for setting up a future attack. And what makes the PLO implacable? The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) was founded in 1964 by a body of Palestinian representatives handpicked by the Soviet KGB. The first PLO chairman, Ahmad Shukeiri, was a KGB agent. The Soviet Bloc trained the PLO cadre, providing them with weapons and strategic guidance. The current head of the PLO, Mahmoud Abbas, received his Ph.D. from Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow.

The PLO was an offspring of the KGB, which was an offspring of the Soviet Union, which was founded by Vladimir Lenin. This man was the enemy of bourgeois civilization, capitalism and religion. If we look around the world today, we find that regimes influenced by Leninism share an implacable aspect. Consider the following examples: Venezuela under Chavez (a Leninist) has threatened to make war on Colombia while allying itself with Iran; North Korea, a Leninist regime, constantly threatens South Korea; Leninist China presently occupies Tibet, while threatening Taiwan. According to U.S. State Department cables published by WikiLeaks, Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd warned U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that America must be ready for war with China. The Australian statesman did not warn about Japan or India or Indonesia. He warned the United States about Communist China. And he had good reason. While Leninist regimes frequently advocate “peaceful coexistence,” or detente, or perestroika, they inevitably prepare for a future war against capitalism. This is what they do, even as they embrace capitalism. And this is what they do because Lenin taught them to do it, with his famous New Economic Policy (i.e., a retreat into capitalism).

There are enemies out there, and we are quite obviously embarrassed to admit that these enemies are Communist. One might even think, with such an admission, that we didn’t win the Cold War; that Reagan failed to bring down the Evil Empire. I cannot resist pointing out, once again, that the Russian government hasn’t buried Lenin; and they had a perfectly good opportunity to bury him when they buried Czar Nicholas II on 17 July 1998. Far from seeking peace, even now, the Russian government has announced its readiness to deploy a new generation of nuclear warheads and missiles; in fact, I received a report last week about a Third World businessman who recently traveled to a secret city in Russia where they were making strategic weapons, and where the KGB was alive and well, and where Russian military officers heaped scorn upon United States.

Of course, we don’t want to acknowledge any of this. As America has grown more prosperous, more comfortable, and better entertained, we fortuitously made our enemies disappear. In 1991 our main enemy (the USSR) promptly vanished — on Christmas Day, no less. The hammer and sickle came down, and the Russian flag went up. Such was the grounds for declaring a “New World Order.” Then we began to build a global utopia. But there is no such a thing as utopia, and the Communists in Russia and China were not utopians (contrary to the misrepresentations of those who never understood Communism). “We are not utopians,” wrote Lenin in The State and Revolution. The founders of modern Communism were clear on this point. And they were also clear on another point, which Lenin was apt to make: “One man with a gun can control 100 without one.”

Here we stand on the edge of an abyss. War may break out tomorrow in the Middle East, Korea, or the Taiwan Strait. As nuclear weapons spread to South America, the situation in Venezuela is going to become dangerous. A terrorist attack may disrupt our country at any moment. Have we understood the underlying theme of implacable enmity running throughout? I submit, as well, that this is not a “problem” open to endless discussion. It is an explosion that one day will shatter the world, and potentially cripple our civilization.

So what are we doing about it? Are we continuing to delude ourselves, or are we going to face the truth?

Americans, all Westerners, need to wake up to the fact that Leninism never went away. It is alive today in Russia, China, Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela, India, South Africa and most of the rest of the continent, much of Europe (East and West), Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brazil and most of Latin America, the US Congress and Senate and even the White House.

It is also very important to remember that much of radical Islam is guided more by the ideas of Lenin than by the words of Mohammed.

The West has implacable enemies. Not a pleasant thought, but much better confronted than ignored.

Terrorist Inquiries – What to Watch Out For

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service has issued a set of guidelines for New Zealand exporters and academic institutions to enable them to spot suspect orders, or inquiries that may be tied to terrorist organizations.

These guidelines are equally applicable to other countries, so they may be helpful to others in these fields

From the NZSIS:

Some terrorist groups as well as countries of proliferation concern regularly attempt to obtain controlled goods, often via third parties, in the form of front companies and other intermediaries. To do this, such individuals or entities may exhibit suspicious behavior or activities, some of which are outlined below.

Exporters can assist the New Zealand Government’s counter-proliferation and counter-terrorism efforts by reporting to the NZSIS information concerning entities’ attempts to procure goods or technology that could be diverted to a WMD programs. Examples of possible suspicious advances include the following:

  • An unconvincing explanation for why the items are required, in view of the customer’s normal business or the technical sophistication of the items.
  • Routine installation, training or maintenance services are declined.
  • Payment by cash or offers above the ticket price.
  • The customer is new and you cannot substantiate the nature of their business.
  • Excessive requirements for confidentiality about final destinations, or customers, or specifications for items.
  • The customer or end-user is a foreign military or government research body.
  • A sale being canceled, but a short time later, an identical order is received under a different name.
  • The customer uses a generic email address rather than one related to the purported business.
  • Reluctance to offer information about the end-use of the item.
  • A request that goods be transferred to a forwarding address in New Zealand or transhipment point overseas.
  • Reluctance to provide clear answers to commercial or technical questions which are normal in routine transactions.
  • Requests for unusual shipping, packaging or labeling arrangements.
  • An installation site with strict security controls.
  • Requests for confidentiality about final destinations, customers or specifications of items.
  • Requests for additional equipment not normally associated with a particular item purchased (e.g. large quantities of spare parts), or conversely a lack of interest in parts that are usually associated with the product being ordered.
  • The order itself is unusual in some way, e.g. the quantity or performance capabilities of the goods ordered significantly exceed, without satisfactory explanation, the amount or performance normally required for the stated end-use.

Researchers and tertiary institutions can assist the New Zealand Government’s counter-proliferation and counter-terrorism efforts by reporting entities’ attempts to obtain knowledge, training or research access that could be diverted to WMD programs. Suspicious advances from nationals of countries suspected of WMD proliferation could include:

  • Enquiries about enrolling as students for, or seeking employment on, WMD-relevant research projects or study courses.
  • Applications for work or training in industry areas with potential WMD applications.
  • Requests to attend conferences and seminars on sensitive topics.
  • Requests from unknown individuals, institutions and companies for help and advice in a specific area of technology and/or technical process.
  • Requests relating to matters on which scientists, experts, research institutes and laboratory staff etc. would not normally seek advice or information and for which unconvincing reasons or evasive explanations are given.
  • Suspicions that the requesting party does not possess the necessary expertise or familiarity to complete a particular project or contract.
  • Security arrangements which seem unusual, either too excessive or too lax, which demonstrate a lack of familiarity with normal practice.

How you can help…

In essence, please advise NZSIS if you are approached by any entity or individual you feel may not be engaged in legitimate activity, who could be contributing to the spread or acquisition of weapons of mass destruction.

Please alert you local security service, if you have reason to be suspicious about an order or inquiry. You may save lives. A clear conscience is better than money in the bank.

“Green Power Generates Red Ink”

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

From the always bang on Viv Forbes of the Australian based Carbon Sense Coalition who criticizes the solar and wind energy scams.

The Carbon Sense Coalition today called for an end to all subsidies, mandated markets and sweetheart pricing for solar and wind energy.

The Chairman of “Carbon Sense,” Mr. Viv Forbes, said that current energy policies were harming the existing power industry and robbing taxpayers and electricity consumers.

Forbes continued:

“It’s time to end the mollycoddling of wind and solar energy toys before this stupidity does irreversible damage to Australia’s electricity supply and costs.

“The mindless green dream of producing serious base load power from whimsical breezes and intermittent sunbeams has caused a halt to new low-cost coal power, a boom in expensive gas power, a national debate about nuclear power and no effect at all on global climate.

“The frivolous wind and solar generators already installed have caused a surge in electricity prices, a bonanza for Chinese manufacturers and well founded doubts about our future ability to keep the lights on.

“Provision of cheap reliable energy is a basic requirement for modern civilization and is the engine that lifts people from poverty. It is far too important to be left to green dreamers, anti-industrial zealots, vote seeking politicians, engineering illiterates and guilt-ridden millionaires.

“It is already obvious from Denmark, Spain, California and Germany, that subsidizing green power creates very little power but much red ink in the accounts. It always causes massive burdens for tax payers, electricity consumers and industry. Tax payers and investors will rue the day they allowed politicians to waste their savings on chimeras.

“Get rid of all the mandated markets, subsidies and tax breaks for all energy generators, and leave power engineers and business managers to work out how best to supply our future energy needs in a free competitive market.

“Subsidized power must collapse under its own dead weight. But every day’s delay increases the eventual cost.”
