Major donors to Harry Reid and Barack Obama’s campaigns are backing a Chinese company, A-Power Energy Generation Systems. A-Power is a small Chinese manufacturer, founded in 2007, as China’s interest in “green energy” was beginning to take off.
Harry Reid with CEO of A-Power and USW Vice President on the Campaign Trail
MSNBC reports. Yes you read that right, MSNBC reports:
The wind farm, first announced more than a year ago, would consist of 300 2-megawatt wind turbines, each perched atop a 26-story-tall steel tower and spinning three blades — each half the length of a football field. The farm would span three counties and 36,000 acres in West Texas land best known for its oil. Dubbed the Spinning Star wind farm, the project’s 600-megawatt capacity is, theoretically, enough to power 180,000 American homes and would be the sixth-largest wind farm in the country.
It is being planned by an unusual joint partnership between the U.S. Renewable Energy Group, a Dallas investment firm with strong ties to Washington and the Democratic Party, and A-Power Energy Generation Systems, an upstart Chinese supplier of wind turbines. Filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission indicate the Chinese are bringing financing and the turbines.
Besides the $450 million stimulus grant, A-Power’s SEC filings indicate the joint-venture also will pursue a Department of Energy-backed loan guarantee.
All too often the response from many who call themselves conservatives is, “it will increase employment and help business, so stop complaining. Sure, it’s not ideal to have the Government injecting capital to get the venture off the ground, but in the end it will be best for the economy.” But as I pointed out in a recent post, when we allow the Government to get involved with business deals, corruption is never too far away. And inevitably, market-failures will be propped up with tax-payer dollars, leaving struggling, hard-working business owners even worse off.
But it gets better. Key backers of this wind farm initiative are themselves major backers of the Democratic Party:
The investment group’s public face is often Cappy McGarr, a wealthy Texas philanthropist, investor and longtime fixture in Democratic politics, who has given heavily to Democratic candidates across the country and was an early backer of President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Joining McGarr in Dallas is Ed Cunningham, a former executive for several large Western entertainment companies in China, a 2002 Democratic senatorial candidate and a former member of Obama’s national finance committee.
Two registered lobbyists with a long history of involvement in Democratic politics, G. John O’Hanlon and Moses Boyd, are the group’s anchors in Washington. O’Hanlon has been a party operative since the 1980s — a protégé of Democratic heavyweight Terry McAuliffe — and has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic causes. Boyd is a former senior Democratic Capitol Hill staffer turned lobbyist.
All told, these four and their spouses have given more than $1.8 million in campaign donations since 1990, with McGarr and his wife accounting for more than half of that. “That would place them among the top 100 donors of hard money overall…”
We had a very similar situation in New Zealand where Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings was filmed. Warner Brothers began preparation for filming of the NZ $670M two-part Hobbit movie, however unreasonable demands from New Zealand’s actor’s union caused Warner Brothers to reconsider shooting in New Zealand. However, Prime Minister John Key met with Warner Brothers, agreeing to offset their costs by NZ $30M, and actually passing a law through Parliament to enable the film to be made here.
And in other Hobbit news, a casting agent for the movie was fired recently when she told a Hobbit wannabe of Pakistani heritage that her skin tone wasn’t light enough. What next? A female seeks to audition for the part of Bilbo and then public outrage when she is turned away?

I wanted to take a few moments to update you all as Fiercely Independent Locksmiths of America finishes out its first year; partial year to be more accurate. Our membership is growing, slowly but surely, with folks from Texas to Wisconsin and places in between; actually Wisconsin is part of North Texas, they just talk a little different.
Take a few minutes to count your blessings and, while you’re at it, thank the companies which have sponsored our website. Visit them via the links built into their spot advertisements, use their services or purchase products from them; but let them know you value their contribution to FILOA. These folks could have advertised anywhere; they chose to be with Fiercely Independent Locksmiths of America, Thank You!
Recently I posted an article on how to work on older style GM ignition switches. It can be found in the Members Only section. FILOA is always looking for well written technical articles, ways to improve our trade/profession. We don’t pay huge amounts so you won’t get rich or even make next month’s house note; but we do pay anywhere from $10 on up. You’ll be helping a fellow locksmith, apprentice locksmith or tinkerer while being able to see your name listed as author along with your picture should you include one. (Author’s picture should be made to fit 150 X 150 pixel square in order to transfer to WordPress format.)
The FILOA logo patches should be ready anytime now. Hopefully they will make it from the embroidery company in time for Christmas orders; however, these are quite detailed and take a little longer to produce. I will post a separate article with photographs of the finished product as soon as they are ready along with the cost per logo.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good…; I think that line’s already been used and I don’t want to be accused of plagiarism. Enjoy this Christmas Season, smile often and be grateful you’re into locksmith work and not a plumber’s helper up to your armpits in something that smells really bad.

T F Stern’s Rantings
Do you remember Obama’s pledge back in 2008 when he was running for the Oval Office, a pledge to bankrupt the coal industry? At the time he threatened to make it too expensive to operate coal fired electrical plants via Cap & Trade legislation mandates in order to force Americans into “green” forms of energy production.
“Under my plan of cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Businesses would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that cost onto consumers.” (January 17, 2008 speaking on Cap and Trade, San Francisco Chronicle as recorded by Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit)
Cap and Trade legislation never made it past the floor of the House or Senate after Climategate brought about public outcry; the shady dealings and lies which are “man made global warming” had been exposed. Has that stopped the EPA from imposing their rules – rules built upon false and misleading data? Maybe I should have asked a different question. If you fail to pay income taxes, the IRS won’t come after you, right? Same answer and neither one is very pretty.
Jim Hoft continued documenting the administration’s assault on coal on October 15, 2010 when Obama’s EPA shut down one of the largest coal mining operations in West Virgina; their permit was canceled.
“The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) took courageous action today to protect the people and waterways of Appalachia when Shawn Garvin, the agency’s Region 3 Administrator, recommended the withdrawal of the mining permit for America’s largest proposed mountaintop removal coal mine site, the Spruce No. 1 Mine in Logan County, West Virginia.”
You might wonder why I keep referring to the Environmental Protection Agency as “Obama’s EPA.” It’s a worthwhile consideration. The EPA was created under the Nixon administration, a tool to be used by the executive branch of government. Each president has implemented various policies through enforcement, or lack of enforcement of EPA rules and regulations in order to bring about “change” or keep the status quo.
Obama’s administration has gone for American’s free market system’s jugular vein by plotting to destroy the energy sources most commonly used, oil and coal. Obama’s moratorium on oil drilling is no fluke as it follows an agenda. It won’t be long before the masses riot in the streets as industry grinds slowly to its death, the price of basic commodities skyrocket or become unavailable entirely. At that moment in time, “change” can be implemented; the last bricks of the free market system will have tumbled and the new socialist/Marxist/totalitarian/Utopian (call it whatever you want; but it won’t resemble anything constitutional) restoration of order can take its place.
One of the lies Obama told was he was for “clean coal” as a source of energy. However, that claim doesn’t match up with statements made by Vice President Joe Bidden as recorded on a transcript of the Rush Limbaugh talk show.
“…back on September 17th during a rope line visit, he’s shaking hands with people, there’s an environmentalist wacko in the line, Carolyn Auwater, and she says, “Wind and solar are flourishing here in Ohio so why are you supporting clean coal?” and old Biden goes, “We’re not supporting clean coal! We don’t want clean coal. Let the Chinese build clean coal.” The Obama campaign has done its best to hide its intent from everybody.”
The State of Texas recently challenged the EPA’s expansion of rules and regulations forced on coal burning electric plants which go into effect January 2, 2011; but lost a temporary bid holding off implementation until the case had run through the courts.
“…the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia denied the request to freeze the new regulations while the lawsuit is pending, ruling that the challengers failed to show that the harms they allege are certain, rather than speculative.”
“The decision of the three-judge panel clears the way for the rules to take effect Jan. 2, as planned. The federal rules require new controls on emissions from vehicles and industrial sources, such as power plants and refineries.”
Did you catch that, “the challengers failed to show that the harms they allege are certain, rather than speculative,” as if the whole global climate warming scam was a certainty. Shopping for judges must be an art. Find the right judges and the earth could be ruled flat because a computer generated model proves we’re all living on the edge.
“Scott Segal, a lobbyist at Bracewell & Giuliani, which represents utilities, refiners and manufacturers, said the court ruling is “unfortunate” because regulators will not be ready in time to impose the new permit requirements.”
‘“The court may have ensured an effective construction moratorium for industrial and power projects,” Segal said. “Given the state of the economy, the decision is certainly not a welcome holiday present.”’
William L. Anderson, an associate professor of economics at Frostburg State University, recently wrote an article, Is the EPA Necessary, where he covered some of the deplorable practices used by the EPA in order to impose their will on industry. He then offered a pondering question:
“One wonders how much economic growth would have taken place had the EPA not existed. Obviously, that is a calculation no one is able to perform, but I suspect that some readers of this site who have had to deal with EPA bureaucrats can tell a few horror tales.”
The EPA’s goal isn’t to help the economy; no, just the opposite. The Obama administration is using the EPA to collapse industry, intentionally putting folks on unemployment in order to bring about “change.” When enough financial strain has been put on America’s suffering free market system, those on the left “hope” it will snap and provide them with the opportunity denied them for so long; to usher in the new socialist/Marxist/totalitarian/Utopian (call it whatever you want; but it won’t resemble anything constitutional) restoration of order can take its place. To answer William Anderson’s question, Is the EPA necessary; those following the Cloward/Piven strategy to destroy our economy would have a resounding, “Yes!”

On March 1, 1973, former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir met with President Richard Nixon and his then Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. At this meeting Meir pleaded with the U.S. president and Kissinger to apply pressure on the Soviet Union to release its Jews. Little did Meir know that her words were not only being summarily dismissed by these two world leaders but that the meeting was being secretly taped by Nixon, who possessed a vitriolic hatred towards Jews and other minorities.
Twenty-seven years later, these never before heard tapes from the Nixon Library have now been released and the New York Times has now reported that Kissinger displayed a callous indifference towards a possible Soviet inspired genocide against the Jews. “The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy,” says Kissinger, adding that, “If they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern.” Nixon then replies: “I know. We can’t blow up the world because of it.”
After congressional investigations revealed that Nixon surreptitiously recorded his White House conversations, the tapes became government property and have been released in intervals over the years.
The American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants in a statement called for an apology from Kissinger, who is still consulted by Democratic and Republican administrations and by Congress on matters of state. “Henry Kissinger’s comments are morally grotesque and represent a disgraceful perversion of American values,” said the statement. “He owes an apology to all victims of the Nazi Holocaust.”
Born in 1923 in the Weimar Republic to a family of German Jews, Kissinger and his parents fled the Nazi persecution in 1938 and settled in the Washington Heights section of New York, which was home to a predominantly German-Jewish community. During World War II, Kissinger joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to the military intelligence section of the 84th Infantry Division where he saw combat and even volunteered for hazardous intelligence duties during the Battle of the Bulge. During the American advance into Germany, Kissinger was assigned detail to eradicate the Nazi presence from the city of Krefeld, owing to a lack of German speakers on the division’s intelligence staff. Kissinger relied on his knowledge of German society to remove the obvious Nazis and restore a working civilian administration; a task he accomplished in 8 days. Kissinger was then reassigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps and was given charge of a team in Hanover assigned to tracking down Gestapo officers and other saboteurs, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Despite his military record, Kissinger went on to become one of the most controversial and enigmatic political figures of the 20th century. During the Yom Kippur war of 1973, Kissinger advised Nixon to delay a crucial arms airlift to Israel in order to get the Egyptians to the peace table. Nixon cited Israel’s urgent need and on October 12, 1973, proceeded with the largest military airlift in history to aid Israel, thus rejecting Kissinger’s advice. According to notes taken by then White House Chief of Staff, H.R. Haldeman, Nixon “ordered his aides to exclude all Jewish-Americans from policy-making on Israel,” including Kissinger. One note quotes Nixon as saying “get Kissinger out of the play — have Haig handle it.”
After negotiating the end of the Yom Kippur war, Kissinger placed an exorbitant amount of pressure on Israel to cede parts of the Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula in order to foster an improved relationship with Egypt. Since that time, Kissinger has been classified as “a self-hating Jew,” a “treacherous traitor to his people” and an “apologist for anti-Israel and anti-Jewish concerns.”
According to a 2007 report by The New York Times citing newly released documents, Israel’s alleged possession of nuclear weapons and its potential to set off an arms race in the Middle East were a source of concern to the Nixon administration in 1969. “The Israelis, who are one of the few peoples whose survival is genuinely threatened, are probably more likely than almost any other country to actually use their nuclear weapons,” warned Kissinger, who then served as President Richard Nixon’s national security adviser, in a July 19, 1969 memorandum.
The memorandum also saw Kissinger excoriating Israel for purportedly stealing U.S. nuclear secrets. “This is one program on which the Israelis have persistently deceived us,” Kissinger wrote, “and may even have stolen from us. There is circumstantial evidence that some fissionable material available for Israel’s weapons development was illegally obtained from the United States about 1965,” Kissinger wrote, dismissing inspections as a possible solution since, “we could never cover all conceivable Israeli hiding places.”
Kissinger even suggested possibly withholding the sale of Phantom fighter jets to Israel as a way of compelling Jerusalem to yield on the nuclear issue, the Times said. “Israel will not take us seriously on the nuclear issue unless they believe we are prepared to withhold something they very much need,” Kissinger wrote. “On the other hand, if we withhold the Phantoms and they make this fact public in the United States, enormous political pressure will be mounted on us,” the former national security adviser wrote. “We will be in an indefensible position if we cannot state why we are withholding the planes. Yet if we explain our position publicly, we will be the ones to make Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons public with all the international consequences this entails.”
The Nixon tapes also reveal the scope and magnitude of Nixon’s own prejudices towards minorities and particularly Jews. “The Jews have certain traits,” Nixon said. “The Irish have certain — for example, the Irish can’t drink. What you always have to remember with the Irish is they get mean. Virtually every Irish I’ve known gets mean when he drinks. Particularly the real Irish.” Nixon continued: “The Italians, of course, those people of course don’t have their heads screwed on tight. They are wonderful people, but,” and his voice trailed off. A moment later, Nixon returned to Jews: “The Jews are just a very aggressive and abrasive and obnoxious personality.”
The New York Times reported that in a taped conversation with his personal secretary, Rose Mary Woods, Nixon laid down clear rules about who would be permitted to attend the state dinner that the White House was planning for Golda Meir. Nixon called it “the Jewish dinner,” after learning that the White House was being besieged with requests to attend. “I don’t want any Jew at that dinner who didn’t support us in that campaign,” he said. “Is that clear? No Jew who did not support us.” Nixon listed many of his top Jewish advisers, among them, Mr. Kissinger and William Safire, who went on to become a columnist at The New York Times and argued that they shared a common trait of needing to compensate for an inferiority complex. “What it is, is it’s the insecurity,” Nixon said. “It’s the latent insecurity. Most Jewish people are insecure. And that’s why they have to prove things.”
Nixon also declared his reluctance to even consider amnesty for young Americans who went to Canada to avoid being drafted during the Vietnam War when so many of them were Jewish. “I didn’t notice many Jewish names coming back from Vietnam on any of those lists; I don’t know how the hell they avoid it,” Nixon said, adding: “If you look at the Canadian-Swedish contingent, they were very disproportionately Jewish. The deserters.”
Timothy Naftali, the executive director of the executive director of the Nixon Library said that there were now only 400 hours of tapes left to released, and that those would cover the final months before the tape system was shut down in July 1973 after Alexander Butterfield, who was a deputy assistant to Nixon, confirmed its existence to the Watergate committee. Mr. Naftali said that by 2012, he intended to have those tapes, now being recorded on to CDs available for listening online at the Nixon Library’s web site.

This morning I awoke to Fox’s economists declaring that 2011 would see accelerated, big growth in our economy. That retail sales and the change in political and financial stances are pushing us into huge growth. Bull crap…
I don’t know about you, but it doesn’t feel to me like things are getting better. In fact, I feel like we are on the edge of a cliff and good strong wind would be all it takes to send us over the edge.
My family and I are not chancing it. I am stocking a year’s supply of food for our family and we urge all Americans, in fact, all people across the globe, to do the same. If we are wrong, then you have a cushion if you lose your job or money gets tight. Better safe than starving…
My favorite supplier is Emergency Essentials. They sell Mountain House freeze dried food as well as Provident Pantry food. Great prices and simply the best customer service I have ever seen. Their friendly staff will help you with all your questions and their site is awesome.
You can visit their blog or use their recipes that utilize the storage foods they sell. You can either buy food and supplies a piece at a time, or in 3 month, 6 month or year quantities for your shelves. They also have general survival items that are wonderful. I would highly recommend the Volcano II Collapsible Stove with Propane Attachment. Emergency Essentials also mails out catalogs, so you can browse on and off line.
Visit Emergency Essentials here or by clicking on the graphic on the upper left hand column of this site. Don’t risk your family’s safety – you won’t believe the sense of relief being really prepared brings especially when it comes to food.

This could have a very dark side.
By: Trevor Loudon
Gary Jason at Real Clear Politics draws our attention to the cesspool of crony capitalism that the American auto industry has become. The United Auto Workers Union is leading the pack and is well and truly in bed with the Obama Administration. Below are three very key excerpts from his article:
“First is the news that the “new” GM walked away from the crony bankruptcy proceedings with a huge tax break — one worth up to $45 billion. It was revealed in the paperwork filed for its IPO that the Obama administration gave the new GM a sweetheart deal: it will be allowed to carry forward huge losses incurred by the “old” GM prior to its bankruptcy. Of course, the IRS doesn’t allow the new companies that emerge from bankruptcy to write off their old losses. But the feds decided to waive that rule for companies bailed out by TARP. Thus, the new GM will save about $45.4 billion in taxes on future earnings, which may allow it to escape taxes for the next twenty years…”
“…The UAW was given a big chunk of new GM in the crooked bankruptcy settlement. To be precise, the very monster that drove GM off the cliff — the UAW — received 35% of the stock in the new company. With the sale of the stock in the new GM, the UAW earned an immediate $3.4 billion in selling about one third of its shares. Moreover, if the UAW can get $36 per share for the other two-thirds of its shares, it will walk away breaking even — meaning it will walk away with its outrageously bloated pension and health care fund fully intact. The taxpayer, on the other hand, hasn’t fared well at all…”
And then as if that isn’t enough, the U.S. Government is pumping even more tax-payer dollars into the UAW via GM and Ford by purchasing almost 15,000 “unsaleable” hybrids in the last two years.
“…It turns out that the administration itself has purchased a huge, unprecedented chunk of American-made hybrid cars assembled since it took over two of the loser companies. This has propped up the sales of hybrid cars in the face of widespread consumer indifference. The U.S. General Services Administration (which handles the federal fleet of cars) bought nearly 15,000 hybrid cars over the last two years, or about 10% of the government cars purchased. This compares to only 1% of the fleet being hybrids just two years ago. Even more striking, more than 20% of the hybrids the GSA purchased were bought using “stimulus money” (yes, the GSA got “stimulus money” — $300 million in total!). Furthermore, it is interesting to note that of the 15,000 hybrids that the GSA bought, only 22 were from Toyota and Honda. All the rest were purchased from GM and Ford…”
I can’t help but think that the Obama Administration’s approach to dealing with businesses is something along the lines of “If it’s profitable, tax it to death. If it fails, bail it out.” …Especially if it was destroyed by an Administration-friendly union, and heck, bail out the union as well.
