The Conscience of a Conservative

Hat Tip: Jean Stoner

“The turn will come when we entrust the conduct of our affairs to men who understand that their first duty as public officials is to divest themselves of the power they have been given. It will come when Americans, in hundreds of communities throughout the nation, decide to put the man in office who is pledged to enforce the Constitution and restore the Republic. Who will proclaim in a campaign speech: “I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is ‘needed’ before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents’ ‘interests,’ I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and in that cause I am doing the very best I can.”

Democrat Rep. Giffords in Critical Condition After Being Shot

I will be writing a post on this as soon as we have all the facts. For now, here are the links where you can read up on this:

Arizona Congresswoman Fatally Shot in the Head at Public Event

Mass shooting took place Saturday AM in Tucson at event hosted by Rep. Giffords [D]

Gunman ‘in custody’

At least 12 injured

Congresswoman known for cracking down on illegal immigration

BOEHNER: ‘An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve’

NATION SHOCKED: CONGRESSWOMAN SHOT IN AZ

First off, our prayers and condolences go to all who were shot in this tragedy and their families. Mrs. Giffords is in critical condition, NOT DEAD. She is in surgery. Also killed, were six others including a child. 19 were shot last count.

From all accounts, I understand Mrs. Giffords is a good person and she is married to a Navy Captain who is an astronaut. She believes in locking down our borders (a survival trait in AZ) and reducing our debt. She supports health care which I do not. She is a blue dog Democrat who was once Republican.

Politics don’t matter here. What matters is that some nut or someone with a political agenda shot all these people. The shooter was in his late teens or early twenties. I have never in my life seen the hate and vitriol in comments out there from BOTH sides that I have seen today. What is wrong with all of you? Palin had nothing to do with this, neither did Jan Brewer. The right and guns should not automatically be blamed. Neither should the left be lynched. Think about what you are being manipulated into here…

More to come…
