Anti-Israel Marxist Claims Victory

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

Long time Marxist activist John Minto is hailing the non-appearance of Israeli tennis player Shahar Peer’s failure to appear at the ASB tennis classic in Auckland this week as “a significant victory for the BDS (Boycott Divestment and Sanctions) campaign against apartheid Israel.”

Police arrest Minto over 2010 Shahar Peer protest.

From the Socialist Aotearoa website:

Despite being the subject of protest in 2009 and 2010 Peer was adamant she would return to Auckland. She told media last year she was keen to come back. We expected her to enter the tournament at the last minute to avoid early publicity and controversy.

However it seems she was unwilling to face further protests in New Zealand which could have led to greater pressure for her expulsion from other tournaments. Following protests in Auckland in 2009 Peer was banned from a Dubai tournament a short time later. Further high-profile protests here would have increased this pressure.

Peer is the highest profile Israeli sportsperson and we take her non-appearance as a good sign for the strengthening of the BDS campaign. She wants to keep her career one step ahead of the boycott but it’s a race she will lose. The international campaign is tightening on Israeli representatives and companies which do business with apartheid Israel.

Global Peace and Justice Auckland is holding a seminar next week with a key organizer of the BDS campaign in Europe. We will be looking at what further action New Zealanders can take to isolate Israel and support the Palestinian struggle.

John Minto wants to destroy Israel and is working with others across the globe to achieve that objective.

Minto’s ilk, brought down genuinely Apartheid South Africa with similar tactics.

I hope the Israeli’s are taking this campaign seriously.

The Heroes In Our Midst

By: Wayne Leeper
A Land Called America

Dorwin and Mavy Stoddard

Most Americans watched with horror as the events in Tucson, Arizona unfolded on TV screens across the nation. As a nation we stand in collective shock that such an event could take place in this “Land of Freedom.” Much has been in the news for the past 48 hours concerning congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, federal judge John Roll and little 9 year-old Christina-Taylor Green who, ironically, was born on September 11, 2001. This tragic event has received well deserved national attention. The heart of every true American has been deeply touched and saddened by this tragedy.

We have also seen stories about heroic actions taken by many of those who were there. The young Mexican-American, who had been on her staff for only 5 days and had very limited medical training, is credited by doctors at the hospital with keeping her alive until they got her to the hospital and the trained surgeons could take over. As others were justifiably fleeing from the scene, he was running toward the congresswoman even while the shooting was still taking place.

The gunman was restrained, first by an unnamed woman, then by two males in the audience. By the time the first responders arrived, with the exception of the medical needs, these heroes had the situation contained. Those who died here did so for no reason and their deaths could never be justified by any reasonable person. Today they rest in the arms of God.

Many of us who watched in horror on Saturday were in church on Sunday, as we are every Sunday. As a result of having received an e-mail from a friend in Texas, before any names were announced by the media, I learned the name Dorwin Stoddard and the actions he took which saved the life of his wife, Mavy, even at the cost of his own. He was 76 years old, Mavy was 75. Being 70 years old and married to the same girl for 47 years, I would like to think that in a similar event, I would have responded exactly as he did.

Our Lord has said, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13 (NKJ)

Like many men, Dorwin Stoddard had stood before an alter and promised God and those present, that he would love, cherish and protect Mavy for as long as they both should live. On Saturday, he made good on that promise in no uncertain terms.

The Arizona Daily Star reported Sunday that the retired couple was standing in line waiting to meet Giffords when a gunman, later identified as 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner, reportedly began shooting a semiautomatic weapon. Dorwan immediately pushed Mavy to the ground and covered her with his own body. He was shot in the head and for a few minutes was able to talk with Mavy before he quit breathing. “Dorwan and Mavy have worked on benevolence at the Mountain Avenue Church of Christ for years,” said one member. “They put their hearts into helping others that goes far beyond buying groceries. They have changed lives,” said one member of their church. Another member described the Stoddards as “the lifeblood of our church.” Mike Nowak, the couple’s minister at Mountain Avenue Church of Christ, said Dorwan Stoddard was “a terrific guy, a jack-of-all-trades.” He performed maintenance work for the congregation of 120. “If there was a men’s work day at church, Dorwan Stoddard didn’t just show up; he organized it,” said yet another.

As I entered our Sunday worship service, I saw numerous gray heads like myself entering, some with their spouses, others whose spouses have passed on to their reward. These are not individuals who the world would necessarily look upon as heroes, yet they have suffered the trials of this life, maintained their faith in God and are still able to smile and bring comfort to others. We are indeed a brotherhood of Christians. In addition, we are surrounded every Sunday by heroes who will never be given, nor claim that title. Dorwin Stoddard was such a hero.

I am reminded of a story of an old man who experienced car trouble. He had the hood up on a very hot day while his wife was sitting inside the hot car. A number of young men passed by, with no regard for the old man and his wife. A good Samaritan eventually stopped and provided the assistance the man needed to get he and his wife back on the road. The old man thanked the good Samaritan, who refused to accept any money, and handed him a business card. The man put the card in his pocket without reading it and continued on his journey. A few miles down the road he stopped and pulled the card from his pocket. On it, embossed in gold, was the man’s name. Under his name was the inscription, “Member, Congressional Medal of Honor Society.”

As we walk this earth, we are surrounded daily by unsung and unassuming heroes. I have learned over my lifetime that the true heroes are those who are the most unassuming and least likely to be viewed in that sense. It would be a wonderful world if we showed every person the honor and respect which God expects us to. We never know but what we may be standing, unaware, in front of an angel or a hero.

Lynn Woolsey: A National Embarrassment

By: Nancy Morgan
Right Bias

Reps. Waters and Woolsey Advocate for Love

My nephew, Lance Corporal Lee Morgan, will be deploying to Afghanistan next Friday. This will be his second tour of duty there. Lee will be putting his life on the line, once again, fighting a war which is described by Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA) as “an epic failure, a national embarrassment and a moral blight.”

While my nephew is risking his life to fight the war on terror, Ms. Woolsey is exercising her right to polish her moral vitae’s (on the backs of others) by blithely passing judgment on what the Obama administration has re-defined as merely an “overseas contingency operation.” Ms. Woolsey’s right, by the way, has been granted her by the blood of Lee’s compatriots and all the other brave young men who have died in service to our country.

Spitting on the graves of those that have died in their nation’s service is just one of the rights secured to Ms. Woolsey by the blood and sweat of others. A free press is another right. The same press that has maintained a deafening silence about this war, ever since it became Obama’s war. The same press that reports Ms. Woolsey’s inane pronouncements without offering vital context.

Though Ms. Woolsey makes ten times the money my nephew does, he is the one who does the heavy lifting. He is the one on the front line, braving Taliban bullets and following orders. Ms. Woolsey, on the other hand, spends her time, along with fellow democrats, improvising insane rules of engagement which make his job much more dangerous. She is also busy ensuring that terrorists are given the same rights as the Americans they are so intent on killing.

Ms. Woolsey, courtesy of our complacent media, is given the moral high ground. Lee is given, well, nothing to speak of. Not even the thanks or appreciation his sacrifice and service deserves.

Ms. Woolsey, by virtue of her office, is given the status of “expert.” Lee is given the task of ensuring she has an office.

While Ms. Woolsey fashions catchy sound bites, Lee is engaging in real life fights. To the death. Lee could be killed. Ms. Woolsey can only be shamed – if the left hadn’t outlawed shame.

While Ms. Woolsey advocates for “love, not war,” Lee is tasked with the actual job of facing down Taliban fanatics in their own back yards. Lee won’t be making love anytime soon. He’s too busy protecting the right of idiotic politicians to mouth 60’s slogans as they preen in front of cameras, patting themselves on their own backs for exposing the “moral blight” of all that nasty violence. Ms. Woolsey is evolved. Lee is just a grunt Marine.

Though ignored by the media, over 1,449 of our our soldiers have died in Afghanistan to date. An additional 1,400 marines are now being sent to counter an increasingly aggressive Taliban offensive. A Taliban that can only be encouraged by Ms. Woolsey words.

It used to be a crime to offer aid and comfort to the enemy. That was in the days before political correctness, when we were allowed to actually identify our enemies. Now, Ms. Woolsey’s words, and the words of her fellow leftists, comfort our enemies. And encourage them to double their efforts to kill my nephew.

One can disagree on the reasons for our current war, oops, engagement, with Afghanistan. But to publicly voice the sentiments Ms. Woolsey has, while we are so engaged, amounts to treason.

Ms. Woolsey would wet her pants and turn tail in terror if she came face to face with a Taliban terrorist. Luckily, she has my nephew to ensure that she will never have to face that unpleasant reality.

She has the luxury of opining from a safe distance. A distance afforded her by my nephew’s bravery. To her, this “engagement” is cause for embarrassment. It offends her morals. As she did with the Iraq war, she has pre-ordained failure. As happened with the Iraq war, she will once again be proven wrong. And once again, she will not be held to account, or embarrassed. Her fellow leftists will likely exercise their rights in order to re-elect her to public office.

I don’t hate Ms. Woolsey. I have only contempt for her. I’m embarrassed that she is in a position to speak for America. And I feel sorrow for all our fighting men who have to endure the scorn and vitriol of those that have ordered them to lay down their lives for what they have pre-ordained as “an epic failure.” For shame.

Socialist Party Lays Blame for Arizona Murders

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

The Socialist Party USA has no doubt as to who is to blame for the recent murders in Arizona.

Though there is no reliable evidence about the politics of alleged killer Jared Lee Loughner, Socialists Andrea Pason and Billy Wharton lay responsibility at the door of Sarah Palin.

Check out the numerous lies and half truths in this statement…

As socialists, we say unequivocally that political assassination has no role inside of a democratic society or our movement. Throughout [US] history, assassination has been a tool primarily used by the right wing. The death by execution of strong leaders such as Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. stand as testimony to the damage done to our cause. We are democratic socialists and we seek to make a democratic revolution. A revolution that places people in control of their own lives. Political assassination has no role in such a movement.

The same cannot be said of the far right. Right-wing activists have consistently engaged in acts of assassination and in rhetoric that reinforces and encourages such acts. We can note the murder of abortion rights activists such as Dr. Barnett Slepian as well as the violent and hyper-masculine language consistently promoted by the right-wing media. Loughner was reported to be heavily influenced by these ideas, motivated by the call to arms being issued by the far-right.

And he did not have to look hard for motivation to attack Giffords. During the recent [November 2010] mid-term election, Sarah Palin’s Political Action Committee produced a chart that targeted Democrats. The chart employed crosshairs to identify the electoral opponents and utilized language like “We’ll aim for these races”, “This is just the first salvo” and “join me in the fight”. While Sarah Palin did not pull the trigger, she certainly holds a significant amount of guilt for creating the conditions in which such as act was possible.

Now is the time to reject such politics both here in the US and globally. A fitting tribute to the innocent victims from the Tucson shooting would be to end the US occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and to end the bombings in Pakistan. The US military has, through targeted assassinations, extraordinary renditions and drone attacks, made political violence an everyday part of life in this region. As we learned in Tucson today, such violence creates real human tragedies. The lives of innocents lost in the Middle East to political violence are of equal value to Loughner’s victims.

As socialists, we aim to create a non-violent world. A world where the great wealth of society is used to satisfy human needs. Ours will be a democratic revolution where the great majority of working people are finally able to express their desire for things like jobs, peace and freedom. There is no place in this process, in the transition to a democratic socialist society, for political assassination. This is the political tool of the right and only serves to re-enforce the presence of the repressive apparatus of the government. We want freedom and believe that mass non-violent political protests are the means to acquire it. We invite you to join us in this struggle for a better world.

No side has a monopoly on political violence, but the left’s history of murder, assassination, torture and genocide out weigh’s that of the so-called right by many multiples of ten.

This mass murder is a tragedy, for all concerned. The left’s attempt to make political capital from the insane acts of a deranged gunman, with zero evidence, are deeply despicable.
