Senate Seeks to Create Caesar

While all of America is distracted and focused on the death of Osama bin Laden, our President and his minions have been fast at work laying the groundwork for S. 679: Presidential Appointment Efficiency and Streamlining Act of 2011 to speed through the Senate and then make its way into the House and then to the President to sign. Yes, the other hand is quickly forming into a dictatorial fist that is about to smash our Constitution.
As you will recall, the beginning of the end of liberty in Rome commenced with Augustus Caesar who compromised the authority of the Senate through the force of arms and basically the Senate became a facade. America is poised with this proposed bill, to morph immediately from a Republic into an empire with the privileged eunuchs of the Senate as window dressing and a dictator – the first American Caesar – at the country’s helm.
And leading the progressive charge is Chuck Schumer (D-NY). No big surprise there. Schumer is an elitist Marxist and a first class progressive who hates America almost as much as he loves power. He introduced S. 679 on March 30th, 2011. He was joined by a gaggle of progressives from the left and the right. This is something I have been warning Americans about for a long time. If we are to survive as a nation, we must rid ourselves of ALL progressives or our nation is doomed and freedom will be swept into the dustbin of history. Schumer’s esteemed list of constitutional traitors is as follows:

From The Heritage Foundation, here is a succinct explanation of the bill:
The bill reduces the number of presidential appointments that require the consent of the Senate and establishes within the executive branch a Working Group on Streamlining Paperwork for Executive Nominations. Individuals nominated to senior executive offices suffer slow and detailed background investigations and mounds of duplicative paperwork before a President sends their nominations to the Senate. After nomination, many nominees suffer time-consuming inaction or time-consuming and excruciating action as the Senate proceeds (or does not) with consideration of the nomination. The sponsors of S. 679 have identified a valid problem, but proposed the wrong solution. Congress should not enact S. 679.
In essence they want to give the President the sole power to appoint people to positions of his choosing within our government. Obama would be free to do this without the approval of the Senate. Senate approval of such positions is mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article II, Section 2 under the “Appointments Clause”:
… shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments. (emphasis added)
This bill will do away with the checks and balances that separate an American form of government from those such as Venezuela and Brazil. Already we have power mongers such as Cass Sunstein our Regulatory Czar (more commonly known as the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs and more aptly titled the Office of Government Propaganda) running amok across the US using agencies such as the EPA as a weapon of regulation and control. There is not a single area in our country that Sunstein does not have his claws sunk deep into. It should scare the crap out of Americans, but all I hear are crickets. The silence of capitulation seals our fate as surely as the thunderous applause of approval – so ends the Republic.

When the delegates of the states gathered in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787 and wrote the Constitution, they distributed the powers of the federal government among two Houses of Congress, a President, and a judiciary, and required in many cases that two of them work together to exercise a particular constitutional power. That separation of powers protects the liberties of the American people by preventing any one officer of the government from aggregating too much power.
The Framers of the Constitution did not give the President the kingly power to appoint the senior officers of the government by himself. Instead, they allowed the President to name an individual for a senior office, but then required the President to obtain the Senate’s consent before appointing the individual to office. Thus, they required the cooperation of the President and the Senate to put someone in high office.
I know Americans have not forgotten about Obama’s string of Czars. Czars that he was supposed to downsize or get rid of. Czars, which in my personal viewpoint, were and still are illegal under the Constitution. But progressives never go away, they just shift… As has done so many of Obama’s Czars. With this sweeping bill, over 200 positions will no longer require Senate approval. Obama will dictate who are his powerful lieutenants and who will control America. The Senate will merely be a sham to parrot Obama’s dictates. With this bill, checks and balances will be effectively nullified.
What does that portend you say? One day, your right to own a gun will be gone, just regulated away. Businesses will be nationalized even more than they are now. Heavy regulation will ensue concerning communications and the Internet. Many, many private businesses will whither and die. You will be told what and how much to eat – food and gas rationing will become the norm. Poverty and squalor will become equal for all as wealth is redistributed to other nations. If there are elections, they will be a joke and pointless. There will be a few powerful elites and then the masses. Guess which camp you and I will be in?
Our best hope at this juncture is that this abomination will be stopped in the House. We must weed out the progressives and we must win in 2012. This country will not survive another four years of progressive policies. Not as a Republic and not as a free entity anyway.
The bitter irony on display here, is that the same jackals that have barked and snarled and feigned horror at “American Imperialism,” are the very ones who now howl their support for a true American empire. All hail Caesar!

I have a hard time seeing this as anything but an overreaction. The appointments clause allows “Congress … [to] vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone,” and all the officers involved in this bill meet the inferior officer test of Edmond v. United States, so what’s the problem again?
This bill is rediculus! If the senate doesn’t have confirmation oversite then what does it have. What’s next? Supreme Court appointees whithout senate review?

It all depends on which offices the bill is about. Many of them, mainly cabinet posts and the various czars, have no constitutional status one way or the other. Congress approves (or otherwise) those appointees, but not because the Constitution give Congress authority to do so. The concept of “checks and balances” guides the Constitutional relationship BETWEEN the branches of government, or between the US government and other governments (hence the congressional approval for ambassadors), not the internal makeup of any one branch. So, for example, both the Executive and the Legislature can get their oars in when some of the bigger positions in the Judiciary are filled. So far, so good. But it does not follow, either logically or historically, that outside persons should be able to fiddle with the makeup of the Executive management team. As we see in real life – Congress had a bit to say about who’s in the present Cabinet, but they still ended up being a gaggle of clownish amateurs, not to mention tax cheats. So much for Congressional oversight even when it’s intact.
The problem with Augustus wasn’t his appointments; it was that there was no way to get rid of him (short of assassination or civil war), and no reliable way to influence the choice of the succeeding Imperator. Even so, some emperors were elected (in some fashion) by the Senate and/or the Eques. Sometimes that overtly oligarchic process worked out well, the best example perhaps being Nerva, the first of Gibbon’s “five good emperors” (to reach five rather than six, Gibbon didn’t count Lucius Verus, Marcus Aurelius’s co-emperor).

The process “needs to be streamlined” because handling all the process and paperwork for this “overwhelming volume of appointees” takes too much of everyone’s time and effort.
No one seems to be interested in why we need more than a thousand executive appointments, including the ironically named “czars” (Caesars) whose authority is largely unchecked.
Right about the time someone came to me with [DramaQueen] OMG! We simply must do something about streamlining all these legions of appointments! It’s just so hard with all the Senate interference. [/DramaQueen], I would be reaching for my Plus-Five Clipboard of Doom to identify which parts of the government bloat need to be eliminated so that the appointment list comes back down to a humanly manageable level.
And the first appointments to be considered, after completely superfluous cabinet appointments (Secretary of Education, anyone?) would be any position whose title contains a word derived from the Latin “Caesar.” The term may have been “cute” when it was adopted, but trends toward “total government” have rendered it no longer funny.
No, absolutely do not make appointments easier for this president.
What the hell is wrong with people? Chucky Schumer, tyranny’s emissary, offers this “solution” to slaving over a hot cauldron of totalitarian minion appointments, and all anybody can come up with is how “reasonable” it all sounds?

Like those of us watching this character since 07 didn’t see this coming. No surprise! What is the surprise is how totally ignorant the masses are regarding our goverment. Kinda thought that when inflation started (high gas prices & food which are not counted in the gvt index for inflation) to hit the zombies in the pocket they’d start to Wake Up! Well I guess not. The progressive movement has worked behind the scenes for so many years & they now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Their strategy of divide & conquer brilliant. I agree that this bill is a travesty. What bothers me about this article is statements like, “a gaggle of progressives from the left and the right.” Nonsense. If you want to demonize the left, or liberals, (or, “progressives”) fine…but that’s kind of hard to do when R’s and D’s attempt this kind of garbage in a bi-partisan way…there’s nothing particularly “progressive” about this bill…nor the majority of its congressional proponents. I’ve seen this sort of labeling technique employed before…maybe the writer is unfamiliar with the term and uses it innocently (albeit incorrectly) but I doubt it. More likely, those of a conservative mindset, rather than accepting that their supposed representatives have sold them down the river, instead invent a fiction like a “right-wing progressive.” Nope. That animal is a contradiction in terms. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t make it synonymous with everything else you don’t like. And besides last time I checked there were about two truly “progressive” congressional representatives period. The rest are simply unscrupulous politicians regardless of party or rhetoric.
Jeffery, what do you call the 80+ members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus? Also, are there any Republicans who vote the majority of the time with self-proclaimed Progressives? If you ask Chuck Schumer (he introduced the bill) whether he’s a Progressive, what do you think his answer will be? Former Senator Hillary Clinton said she’s proud to be a Progressive, and she worked closely with Schumer because they shared the same views and were working toward the same agenda.
The bill is meant to usurp the authority and responsibility of the Senate to be a check-and-balance for the Executive Branch. Just like the healthcare reform bill is meant to usurp the authority and responsibility of We The People to purchase what we want from whoever we want… or not. Putting control in their hands to exert their will over others is consistent with the government officials who proudly call themselves “Progressives”. But if there’s another name for them, do tell.

It is typical that Dick Durbin would sign on to this legislation he is another American hating Constitutional hating Senator and unfortunately he is from the Union controlled state of Illinois. Looks to me like all the presidents, politicians and judges are window dressing. We live under a dictator and his name is Evelyn Rothschilds. It doesn’t matter which party. Either will do the same. An imperial Presidency is a lot easier for the people who are ACTUALLY running our country. I’d feel a lot better about all this if we’d all stop being partisan, and stop backing candidates, and START backing EACH OTHER so we can get OUR country back.

What a shame that the Constitution makes so much paperwork for these poor elected folk!! The Founding Fathers should have been more forward thinking, seeing the terrible hassle involved in moving away from a Republic to a more efficient form of government. You would think that they must have been thinking of making this “republic” thing a long tem arrangement. (How misguided and backward!!) Thank God modern progressives have a remedy. Cut the paperwork! Cut the Senate’s responsibilities!! All haill Ceasar!!!

What’s the big deal? The constitution was shredded when the patriot act was instilled giving the govt the ability to arrest and detain someone without due process or even indefinitely. Basically throw them in a dungeon and never let them see the light of day or anyone not of their choosing. They don’t even have to acknowledge that was done to someone. Poof!! vanished from the earth just by saying enemy combatant and don’t forget torture to boot. So what if the deck gets stacked without the lobbyists, oops I mean senate approval. It’ll get stacked either way.

I must admit that this idea fascinates me. It is time that America drops the pretense of being a so-called “Republic” and embraces it’s true nature, that of a globe-spanning empire with a fearsome military capability behind it. The only thing that’s lacking is a true “Caesar” to seize the reigns of power. Virtually all of America’s “leaders” are little more than soft, spineless politically correct cowards. I say onward boldly to Empire! Throughout history the most successful civilizations were ruled by the iron fist of a single monarch. I would call upon any future emperor to seize Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Central and South America, and Antarctica. This would give the empire vast human and natural resources that can be utilized to subjugate the rest of the planet in the loving grip of a true Pax Americana, and then, we shall truly have peace. The only ingredient lacking is a real leader to seize the reigns of power. On that note, I congratulate these Senators for their courageous actions. Hopefully, they are setting the stage for the future arrival of a real man on the scene. To this I can only cry, Forward! Forward to Empire!
