Eric Odom of Grassfire and Patriot Action Network interviewed me at the back of the bus while we were rolling along. If you’d like to watch what I had to say, click here.

Along the drive to Salt Lake, we stopped and saw The Bonneville Salt Flat. Pretty amazing. Looked like snow! Our driver Ray March suggested we might want to stop and make “salt angels”.

Our visit to Utah began with a Civic Fireside. After a stirring invocation, our National Anthem was sung by Diana Nagy, who included the rarely heard 4th stanza, particularly relevant in these times.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov’d homes and the war’s desolation;
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Howard Kaloogian, Our Country Deserves Better PAC Chair, opened for the speakers of the Civic Fireside, reminding the audience that a “Course on the Constitution” will be offered in January 2012 online through Hillsdale College. He urged everyone to start a family tradition to read The Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July.

Amy Kremer, TPX chairman thanked the guests at the Draper City Amphitheater and told them, “We are a grassroots army and our armor is The Constitution. I encourage you all to study the constitution. Through a book club, online, or on your own.”

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said, “We’re spending too much money and we need to get our fiscal house in order. In 1911, the federal government spent $609 million for a whole year. Now we spend that in less than two hours. We’re turning the corners because we’ve built the foundation on fiscal prudence. In Utah, we believe in following the constitution.”

Local Tea Party organizer Darcy Van Orden said, “Let us not undo what our forth fathers have done for us. Our Rights come from God and not from man.”

US Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) then spoke, saying he has introduced a balanced budget amendment 17 times in the state of Utah. He added that, “The individual mandate in Obamacare is unconstitutional. Dodd-Frank is one of the worst things I’ve seen out of all my years in the US Senate.”

Kay and Ron Rivoli of the Rivoli Revue sang a very moving rendition of ‘God Bless America’, reminding us that it is a wonderful prayer.

Scott Bradley from “To Perserve America Lecture Series” joined the stage, followed by Constitutional Scholar Mike Holler who is traveling with the TPX. Both shared what the first amendment means, how it was intended by the founders to prevent a government imposed religion. “Congress shall make no law…”

The fireside in Utah event closed with Lloyd Marcus singing ‘God Bless the USA’

Today we have a long ride ahead of us — more than 600 miles on the road to Cheyenne, WY for tonight’s rally. Thank goodness we all like each other! Twelve of us aboard the bus, being entertained by the comedic genius of a man with a lot of heart, Jimmy Labriola, who was also interviewed by Eric Odom. And me.

Here’s the press release:
