During a Detroit City Council meeting Tuesday, Councilwoman JoAnn Watson proclaimed that President Barack Obama owes the ailing city a [federal] government bailout–because nearly 75 percent of Wayne County voters, which includes Detroit, supported his 2012 presidential re-election bid, according to My Fox Detroit, in a FOXNews article yesterday.
There ought to be a quid pro quo.
After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C., and came home with some bacon.
That’s what you do.
Six months ago the State of Michigan, under new Republican Governor Rick Snyder, established a city-state advisory board to provide state oversight of the financially struggling city, while Mayor Dave Bing, a Democrat, businessman and former Detroit Pistons NBA star, attempted to reform city agencies and services to avert the city’s financial meltdown.
Detroit Councilwoman JoAnn Watson Demands an Obama Bailout
Unfortunately, the combination of a series of corrupt, self-serving and ineffective mayors, bloated public union legacy costs, shrinking revenue sources and allegedly just $3 million in cash remaining, most experts believe Detroit will be driven into bankruptcy court before the end of this year–less than 30 days from now.
The ‘table was set’ for this arrangement by the unforgettable, seemingly delusional rant of a black female Obama supporter in urban Detroit, shortly after Barack Obama was elected in 2008.
Sharon Sebastian’s article yesterday in Christian News Today recounts the content of the video, wherein the [unidentified] woman, who was standing in a long line in Detroit with countless others, waiting to get some “Obama money:”
I never thought this day would come. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage.
When asked where Obama got the money, she reportedly replied:
I don’t know — his stash. I don’t know where he got it from, but he’s giving it to us, to help us.
In her article, Sebastian rightly observes that such comments appear oblivious to the fact that Obama’s “stash” (which is an urban, ghetto-criminal slang term) actually comes from income tax dollars paid into the federal government–by American citizens who work for a living.
According to Becket Adams’ article in The Blaze yesterday, Detroit City Councilwoman Watson’s demand provides vindication for the post-election result conclusions of Gov. Mitt Romney and talk show host Rush Limbaugh–who were savaged by top GOP leaders for saying Obama won because he promised to give people “free” stuff during his campaign speeches.
During an election post mortem conference call with major donors, Gov. Romney accused the president of promising “gifts” to minorities, young voters, and women, while Limbaugh dubbed the president “Baracka Claus” (a play on “Santa Claus”).
“In a nation of children,” said Limbaugh, “Santa Claus wins.”
And, Romney concluded with an undeniable classic:
It’s a proven political strategy … give a bunch of money to a group and, guess what, they’ll vote for you.
Now, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives must maintain a firm grasp on the ‘purse strings’ of the treasury, or it will be ‘curtains’ for the country.
