Snowden Case: Russia to Consider Asylum Request

Russia is considering political asylum for the NSA “whistleblower.”

I can’t say I am surprised.

The Guardian, which is Snowden’s media partner in crime, says, “…Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, said: ‘If such an appeal is given, it will be considered. We’ll act according to facts.'”

And al-Qaeda mouthpiece Al Jazeera has rushed to his defense, calling his disclosures a form of “jihad.”

Questions about the motivation of Edward Snowden, who stole and released classified information on the NSA’s terrorist surveillance program, may have been cleared up. The extraordinary article on the Al Jazeera website gives an insight.

“Like Bradley Manning, and perhaps with more sophistication, he realized that the only way to rein in a state bent on depriving its citizens of their civil liberties was, quite literally, to declare jihad on it,” wrote Mark LeVine at the al Jazeera website.

He goes on: “It is highly instructive that the courage of a few brave men such as Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden have done more damage to the hegemony of the well-entrenched and normally unchallenged US war racket than any number of al-Qaeda-inspired or -directed terrorist plots could have achieved.”

Bradley Manning was a homosexual Army soldier who hated the Army because it excluded homosexuals. His way of striking back was leaking classified information to WikiLeaks.

A search of Federal Election Commission (FEC) records discloses two contributions from NSA “whistleblower” Edward Snowden to Ron Paul totaling $500. One came from Snowden when he worked for Dell and the other when he lived in Hawaii. Ron Paul praised Bradley Manning and WikiLeaks.

WikiLeaks released classified information about U.S. counter-terrorism operations and the locations of facilities vital to national security and vulnerable to terrorist threat. Such disclosures clearly assisted the enemies of the United States, an official charge being leveled against Manning.

We need to know who our enemies are. Snowden is aiding the enemy.

It appears China is protecting him and Russia is offering him a permanent residence.

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD: And apparently he was formally a technical assistant for the CIA. He has been working for a defense contractor, one that has offices in Atlanta, Hawaii, as well as in Virginia. And he has apparently been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of one of those contractors. So, he clearly had access to this kind of information and reveals that he thought it was the right thing to do in which to reveal it. But that he chose Hong Kong to, in which to flee, to find safe haven, tells you what about maybe the support that he might be getting, about taking this information and publicizing it?

BAER: Well, here’s the problem, is that Hong Kong is controlled by Chinese intelligence. It’s not an independent part of China at all. You know, I’ve talked to a bunch of people in Washington today in official positions and they are looking at this as a potential Chinese espionage case. And I’m not saying this because I disagree or agree or believe it had enough prisms is necessarily a good thing or this whole program. It is simply that it was unwise of him to go to Hong Kong to do this.

On the face of it, it looks like it is under some sort of Chinese control, especially with the president meeting the premier today. You have to ask what’s going on. I mean, China is not a friendly country and every aspect of that country is controlled, so why Hong Kong? Why didn’t he go to Sweden? Or if he really wanted to make a statement, he should have done it on Capitol Hill. I’m, you know, we don’t know yet, but you can count on it the FBI and the CIA is looking at this now as potential counterintelligence problem.

WHITFIELD: And if indeed Hong Kong finding refuge there would make it very difficult for the United States to actually extradite him. Given that the president of the United States and the president of China have been meeting all weekend long, you have to wonder whether the dialogue is changing about how and which the U.S. would be able to get their hands on Edward Snowden, how they would be able to strike some sort of a chord or agreement so that the department of justice or other entities or agencies would be able to pursue him.

BAER: We’ll never get him from China. There is not a chance. He will disappear there. He won’t be able to go anywhere else. I can’t believe a TV interview was done there in Hong Kong without some sort of knowledge of the Chinese. They’re not about to send him to the United States and the CIA is not going to render him, as he said in the tape, is not going to try to grab him there. It is not going to happen.

It almost seems to me that this was a pointed affront to the United States on the day the president is meeting the Chinese leader, telling us, listen, quit complaining about espionage and getting on the internet and you know, our hacking. You are doing the same thing. I can see the Chinese doing that.

Scotland – Bill Proposes Massive Invasion Moving Family Rights to Big Brother

Editor’s Note: Threats posed to parental rights and homeschool freedom by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) cannot be more exemplified than by the unopposed legislation by the government of Scotland. American citizens have realized since President Obama’s re-election that the “nanny state” has exponentially grown, under the radar for the most part.

This is directly attributed to the big news pipes in the US that only editorializes their news for their consumers to the directives of the leftist elites in power. A primary example of this is a recent judge ruling that underage girls can buy a morning after pill, called Plan B, right off the shelf. No parental consent, no medical oversight.

The judge basically practiced medicine without a license and to be expected, President Obama’s “court” has given this over to the courts to decide. What would you expect from Obama, who has a documented record of infanticide and is the only POTUS to address Planned Parenthood, the major culprit of infantile genocide, over 50 million and counting………JB, RSN

The government of Scotland is proposing the ultimate invasion of the family in order to “protect” children. According to legislation proposed by the government (and which faces no organized opposition), a social worker will be assigned to monitor each and every child from birth. The government social worker would have the authority and responsibility to “safeguard the wellbeing of the child or young person” through “(i) advising, informing, or supporting the child…, (ii) helping the child…to access a service or support, or (iii) discussing, or raising, a matter about the child” with other government agencies.

In short, every child will be assigned his own mandatory reporter/government monitor from birth.

According to the bill itself, this legislation is proposed to comply with Scotland’s duties under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC, or CRC) which —like the related Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)—requires that the government ensure that in every decision the “best interests” of the child be the paramount consideration. According to international law scholar and University of London professor Geraldine Van Bueren, this “Best interests [standard] provides decision and policy makers with the authority to substitute their own decisions for either the child’s or the parents’, providing it is based on considerations of the best interest of the child.”

Appointing a social worker to monitor every child in the nation is the logical response to the demand from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2008 that the United Kingdom should establish independent Children’s Commissioners “equipped with the necessary human and financial resources in order…that the rights of all children in all parts of the State party are safeguarded.”

“This is the most invasive, anti-parent proposal since ancient Sparta,” said Michael Farris, President of Parentalrights.org. The Supreme Court in Meyer v. Nebraska gave us this explanation of the Spartan practice that Farris references:

In order to submerge the individual and develop ideal citizens, Sparta assembled the males at [age] seven into barracks and entrusted their subsequent education and training to official guardians. Although such measures have been deliberately approved by men of great genius their ideas touching the relation between individual and state were wholly different from those upon which our institutions rest; and it hardly will be affirmed that any Legislature could impose such restrictions upon the people of a state without doing violence to both letter and spirit of the Constitution.

Sadly, while Scotland was once based on foundations similar to our own, they are abandoning these vital principles.

“The recognition of the importance of privacy, of the authority of parents and the protection of this privacy and authority by society is declining fast,” Stuart Walton explained in an interview with Lifesite News. Walton is a sociology and criminology lecturer at Albertay University in Dundee. “Today it is assumed parenting is simply too hard, children are simply too vulnerable, and risks are simply too great to allow for this luxury called ‘privacy’. This is why nobody is attacking this new bill….”

Minister for Children and Young People Aileen Campbell (MSP) pretty well agrees, though she sees no problem with that. Campbell asserts, “Children and young people deserve services that can intervene more effectively and earlier in their lives and that listen and take full account of their views and rights. Achieving this involves a programme of change that is not limited to any one service, but embraces a change in the culture and practice of all services that affect the lives of children, young people and their families.”

There is no consideration for family privacy or the right of parents to direct a child’s upbringing. Apparently, if the destruction of these liberties is the only way to ensure this early intervention, Scotland is willing to pay that price.

The Privacy Impact Report of the Scottish government reflects this: “As wellbeing becomes the focus, information sharing will become more common and may at times occur contrary to the wishes of the child or family; this may result in the child or family having a lack of trust.” Despite this, the bill continues uncontested in the Scottish Parliament.

In contrast, our Supreme Court has held that “the statist notion that governmental power should supersede parental authority in all cases because some parents abuse and neglect children is repugnant to the American tradition.”

Sadly, though, policy leaders and lawmakers in America are looking to lead us away from our roots, onto the same path that Scotland has adopted.

Coming to America?

The CRPD, which was narrowly defeated by a 61-38 vote in December (only 5 votes shy of the two-thirds majority needed for passage), is once again rumored to be on the agenda of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. If ratified, this treaty would eliminate the legal presumption of parental fitness and introduce in its place this “best interests of the child” standard.

To combat this trend, the proposed Parental Rights Amendment contains language that protects the presumption of parental fitness, as well as a section to prevent the use of any source of international law in overriding the liberty of parents to raise their child. Once this Amendment is adopted by Congress and ratified by 38 states, the danger of these treaties to American families will be neutralized.

Action Items

In the short term, we must convince the Senate not to ratify the CRPD. If you have not already done so, please call your senators and urge them to preserve parental rights and family privacy by rejecting the ratification of this treaty. The long term solution, however, is to adopt the Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Encourage your congressman to become an original cosponsor of this important resolution.

The Administration: Scarier Than You Could Imagine

If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it make a sound? If the Obama Administration breaks the law at will, lies to the American people, uses every government agency at it’s disposal to punish it’s conservative/Republican enemies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLdmaQw1ZAA) and no one does anything about it, does it make a sound? Yes it does resulting in devastating consequences for the American people.

Despite a trifecta of scandals, Obama and company continue to stonewall, lie or refuse to answer questions; in essence, giving Congress and the American people the finger. Pundits are shocked and taken-aback by the unprecedented arrogance of the Obama Administration.

Such pundits are a bit late coming to the dance as we in the Tea Party have been well aware of the lawlessness and arrogance of this bunch of thugs from Chicago for years. Have these surprised pundits forgotten Obama’s unprecedented overreaches into the private sector – nationalizing General Motors (http://exm.nr/QVfsvz); bullying banks; ignoring the ruling of federal judges (http://bit.ly/ZWbmrM), trashing the Constitution and more?

Still, pundits are missing the much greater horrifying picture. My fellow Americans we are in deep, deep trouble. The cold reality is that until someone steps forward in real opposition to Obama governing according to his will while ignoring all the laws, checks and balances, we are defenseless expendable supplicants of a tyrannical dictator.

Remarkably, the mainstream media is complaisant with Obama acting like our king rather than our president because he is liberal, black and his presidency is historic. Obama’s agenda fits neatly with the mainstream media’s socialist/progressive agenda. So they are elated to have a Teflon liberal black guy in the White House furthering their cause.

Speaking of expendable supplicants, let us not forget Ambassador Chris Stevens, Tyrone Woods, Glen Doherty and Sean Smith who lost their lives left to die in our consulate in Benghazi.

The Obama Administration is emboldened to do whatever it pleases; bully conservative groups and individuals – secretly invade our privacy (http://bit.ly/196Eb7T), target reporters and thumb it’s nose when they get caught – all without any “real” political push-back or consequences. We the American people are in deep excrement.

Ponder that folks. As long as the mainstream media provides cover for Obama and keeps his poll numbers high by making sure no bad news is linked to Obama (Limbaugh Theorem), our president is empowered to function as a supreme ruler, free to do whatever he pleases to us. Dear God help us!

Obama is the first black president. Okay, I get it. But Obama’s black skin nor protecting his legacy should award him Imperial Dictator status, trumping the best interest of the American people.

The Republican party desperately needs leadership – someone not just willing to say “no” to Obama’s tyranny. We need someone who will walk tall and passionately proclaim, “H – – No!”

America needs a politician with backbone and fortitude willing to endure being called racist by Obama’s subservient mainstream media; someone unafraid of being targeted by the IRS; someone willing to be hated by clueless poll participants; someone willing to endure EPA persecution if they’re a business owner (http://fxn.ws/11j3ziQ); someone willing to endure their phone and email privacy illegally violated and someone willing to endure attempts to criminalize their opposition to Obama’s agenda.

Under Obama’s IRS controlled health care, any politician daring to oppose Obama’s agenda will more than likely suffer delays and denial of medical care for their family and themselves. Suddenly, their conservative Republican mom finds herself at the bottom of the list for that kidney.

Yes, it is going to take a politician with incredible stones to challenge the great all-powerful beast, the Obama Administration.

As the kids would say, Obama’s arrogance is “off the chain” (my attempt to sound cool). Most people caught lying or with their pants down, back off. When caught red handed, Obama pokes his finger in our eye.

For example: It has been exposed that the Administration sent Susan Rice out to lie about Benghazi on five national TV shows. In response to getting caught, Obama promoted Rice. Lois Lerner was caught using the IRS to bully, intimidate and suppress the conservative vote in the 2012 presidential election. Obama promoted Lerner. The latest in his growing list of offenses and scandals, Eric Holder was caught lying about targeting reporter James Rosen. http://fxn.ws/11mXthD

Naïve pundits say, “Eric Holder is toast. He has to go.” My reply is, “Holder ain’t goin’ nowhere. You guys still do not get it. Holder is black and liberal and Obama is arrogant beyond belief with the media in his back pocket.” Obama recently stated that he is behind Holder 100 percent.

Folks, do you see the horror of what we are dealing with in America today? We have an Administration free to rule as it pleases with no one, I repeat no one, really holding it’s feet to the fire. Will, someone please throw this out-of-control administration across their knee, spank it’s butt and say, “No!”

Meanwhile, I heard someone say on TV in response to Holder’s stonewalling and lying, “Holder risks another contempt of congress filed against him.” I am sure Holder is quaking in his boots.

Pope Francis has acknowledged the existence of a “gay lobby” in the Vatican and says he is consulting advisers on what to do about it.

Speaking informally to a confederation of religious groups from Latin America and the Caribbean, he said: “In the Curia, there are also holy people, really, there are holy people.”

But, he added: “There also is a stream of corruption, there is that as well, it is true… The ‘gay lobby’ is mentioned, and it is true, it is there… We need to see what we can do.”

The answer is Excommunication
There is only one thing that Pope Francis should do to deal with the problem of a gay lobby within the Vatican, Excommunicate every member as soon as they have been identified. Since homosexual conduct is not only a sin it is a violation of the celibacy oaths of priests therefore the gay lobby only existed to cover up the actions of the homosexual pedophile priests that have been molesting young boys for the last four decades or more.

When the scandal finally broke in the news some 20-30 years ago the resulting lawsuits almost bankrupted the church. It would not be surprising if that was the intended outcome of the invasion of homosexual men when they began to flood the seminaries in the 1970s. And later as the priests elevated to Bishops and Cardinals the coverup progressed. As it was revealed in one criminal trial brought against one pedophile priest named Paul Shanley, he was a member of NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association.

Pedophiles And Homosexual Activists Push For Total Sexual Liberation

In August, 2003, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit against the state of Kansas over the state’s criminal sodomy law involving children. The ACLU is defending Matthew Limon, a homosexual who committed sodomy against a 14-year-old boy in 2000. At the time of his crime, Simon was 18 years old. The ACLU is claiming that Limon’s conviction is unconstitutionally discriminatory because the penalties for sodomy with a minor are different than for heterosexual sex with a minor.

Kansas Attorney General Phill KIine says the fairness of Limon’s sentence should be a state legislative issue, not a constitutional one. According to Kline, “If the ACLU wins in the thrust of their arguments, it means the state has no right to say that it is illegal for an adult to have sex with a 13-year-old child.” Kline also fears that an ACLU victory will make it difficult for the state to enforce laws against polygamy, incest, bestiality, and other sexual perversions.

The effort to abolish “age of consent” laws has been a long-time goal of homosexual activists. The 1972 Gay Rights Platform, for example, called for the abolition of all laws prohibiting sex with children. The platform demands: “Repeal of all laws governing the age of sexual consent.”

In September, 1995, three homosexual activists published an essay entitled, “The State Of Gay Liberation” in Guide, a homosexual publication. The essay was authored by North American Man Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) co-founder David Thorstad, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Professor Richard D. Mohr, and San Francisco journalist Bruce Mirken.

Thorstad, of course, is a life-long pederast and homosexual activist who clearly describes the important linkage between homosexuality and pedophilia. In a speech given before a homosexual group in Mexico in 1998, Thorstad said: “Pederasty is the main form that male homosexuality has acquired throughout Western civilization-and not only in the West! Fellow author Professor Richard Mohr, is a homosexual activist who is an advocate for same-sex marriage and has said he hopes that homosexual marriage will help define “monogamy” out of marriage altogether. (Stanley Kurtz, “Beyond Gay Marriage,” The Weekly Standard, Aug. 4-11, 2003)

Bruce Mirken is a homosexual and San Francisco journalist who was arrested in 1998 for attempting to have sex with a 13-year-old boy he had contacted through the Internet. When he entered a Sacramento park to sodomize the boy, he was met by police who had been tracking his activities on the Internet. The charges were eventually dropped against him on a technicality.

On his December 17, 2012 nationally-syndicated radio show Thursday, Rush Limbaugh said that “gay militants” run The New York Times (during a segment on the newspaper’s editorial response to President Obama‘s newfound support for same-sex marriage).

This is what happens when the Democrats legitimized pedophilia.

Not enough people paid attention when Congress passed Sen. Ted Kennedy’s Hate Crimes Prevention Act in 2009. This new law gave legitimate, Federally protected status for every conceivable form of sexual deviancy known and has spawned a continuous downward spiral of morality in America.

Now, in an article written by Dr. Keith Ablow on Fox News, Paving the Way for Condoning Child Rape, this doctor writes;

“But, now, there should be no doubt that our culture is poised to begin embracing pedophilia as a lifestyle choice, just like homosexuality. A group of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals called B4U-Act, which has representatives from Harvard and Johns Hopkins, gathered recently in Baltimore to organize their push to change the negative perception of pedophiles and encourage them to get help in a nonjudgmental environment.”

Few people realize that the homosexual lifestyle itself, of which pedophilia is often associated, was always considered a mental disorder until the American Psychiatric Association (APA) voted to change it. In the early 1970s, activists campaigned against the APA Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder, protesting at APA offices and at annual meetings from 1970 to 1973. In 1973 the Board of Trustees voted to remove homosexuality as a disorder category from the DSM, a decision ratified by a majority (58%) of the general APA membership the following year.

Conservative groups waged a tremendous battle in the Spring of 2009 against a new law they had called The Pedophile Protection Act which gave official Federal recognition to every deviant lifestyle. The American Family Association said since “sexual orientation” nowhere is defined in the law, “this law will give pedophiles, voyeurs, and exhibitionists special protections, which is why the bill has correctly been called ‘The Pedophile Protection Act.'”

In the House version, an effort to amend the bill to exclude “pedophilia” from the Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HR 1913) was defeated in committee along party lines. Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL), when confronted with a list of 547 paraphilias from the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, including pedophilia, he declared that “all of these philias and fetishes and isms that were put forward – need not live in fear because of who they are.”

Following the passage of the original Hate Crimes Prevention Act (HR 1913) a storm of protest caused the U.S. Senate to delay a vote because it would not have passed. But a Democrat took the House bill and added it to a National Defense Authorization Act as an amendment and it was passed on July 23, 2009 and signed into law.

No one should be surprised that the ugly face of pedophilia is rising to a legitimate status. It has always been around. One investigation into the Catholic Church pedophile priest cases mentioned that one of the priests had actually been a member of NAMBLA. An article in Wikipedia documents the history of The North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). NAMBLA is a pedophile and pederasty advocacy organization in the United States that works to abolish age of consent laws criminalizing adult sexual contact with minors, and for the release of all men who have been jailed for sexual contacts with minors that did not involve coercion.

Liberal Democrats align themselves to every radical element in our society, be it Socialism, Communism, Islam or sexual deviancy and have given them all legitimate status. Slogging Along

Not sure where we’re going, but…

Signs in Syria right now suggest either an ultimate Assad victory — which is what Minister of Strategic Affairs Yuval Steinitz is suggesting: http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Steinitz-Assad-may-prevail-in-Syrias-civil-war-316031 — or a dividing of the country with Assad’s Alawites in control of a portion of the country (and Sunnis and Kurds likely dividing up the rest).

I wrote last about Syrian encroachment towards Quneitra and Israel’s border. Two things have evolved in this context.

First, Israel sent a warning to Assad not to move tanks into the demilitarized zone between Israel and Syria that was established in 1974, after the Yom Kippur War. Assad sent a message back, via a third party, that his troops were there only to go after rebels. He had no intention of attacking Israel and asked that Israel not respond.

This, then, remains Assad’s position: he has no desire to tangle with Israel when he’s still deeply immersed in fighting the civil war. This caution, of course, does not prevent him from saber rattling, so that he also warns that of a “strategic response” to Israel and yesterday, according to the Lebanese paper, Al-Akhbar, he said he is serious about opening up a Golan front. ,

What has also happened, is that the UN force in that demilitarized zone — the UN Disengagement Observer Force, UNDOF — is falling apart. Austria has decided to pull out its 380 troops, the single largest contingent in the force, and UN Secretary General Ban is scrambling to find replacements.

Prime Minister Netanyahu took this opportunity to make the point, at Sunday’s Cabinet meeting, that Israel must rely on herself and cannot depend on international troops for security.

But we really don’t have to consider this situation for the point to be made: This is a given, in light of a long history of failures of UN troops. The most egregious situation, in my opinion, involved UNIFIL — the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, which was reinforced in 2006, when the war with Hezbollah ended. According to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, this force was supposed to prevent the rearming of Hezbollah via armaments smuggled from Syria.

Today Hezbollah has more rockets, and better, than before the war. I remember reading a report in which an officer with UNIFIL said they weren’t seeing any reinforcements coming across the border from Syria. But then he also indicated that there were no missions sent out at night. Duhh. You think just maybe that’s when the smuggling took place? The motto for these troops seems to be “Look nice and avoid danger.” Or perhaps, “Pretend to be doing the job, but favor Arab states when it’s possible.”

National Security Advisor Maj. Gen. (res.) Ya’akov Amidror has written a briefing for the JCPA on “The Risks of Foreign Peace Keeping Forces in the West Bank”:
“UNIFIL in southern Lebanon is more prone to intervene against Israeli self-defense operations than against acts of aggression by Hezbollah.”

Netanyahu referred to UNDOF now to emphasize that Israel will never rely on international forces: Kerry, looking for ways to restart the “peace process,” recently proposed that perhaps international forces might replace Israeli forces in the Jordan Valley, if a state were to be established. Nothing doing, he’s saying — and he will raise this issue with Kerry in the future.

But Kerry, it has now been announced, will not be coming here this week, as had been planned.

Some sources are saying that he’s remaining in Washington to participate in high level talks on Syria (about which, more below).

Those conditions are familiar to all of us: Freezing all building beyond the Green Line, acknowledging the ’67 line as the basis for negotiations, etc.

Netanyahu calls preconditions an “impassable obstacle.”

But this doesn’t deter our “peace partners.” The PLO just renewed its call for “right of return” — to which Israel has responded that this is contrary to the whole notion of “two states for two people,” which would mean “refugees” going to the Palestinian state.

And there’s more, this time from Jabil Rajoub — former head of the West Bank Security Forces under Arafat, and currently a member of Fatah Central Committee and chairman of the Palestinian Football (Soccer) Association. In an interview on an Arab channel, regarding an upcoming visit to the area by the famous Barcelona Football Club, he was asked if the team would also visit the “occupied” lands.

His response:

“They are coming to the occupied lands. All of Palestine – from the [Jordan] river to the [Mediterranean] sea [i.e., all of Israel] – it’s all occupied.”

Kerry is even dimmer than I already think he is, if he returns to this area any time soon in an attempt to get those talks moving.

As to the demand for a building freeze…

Netanyahu has now said that construction in communities in Judea and Samaria will continue, “and continues today…we need to realize what is going on around us. We have to be smart about it, not just correct. Settlement in the blocs wouldn’t substantively change the ability to reach an agreement, the real question is whether or not there is a will to recognize the Jewish State.”

And indeed, the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics figures show housing starts in Judea and Samaria rose significantly in the first three months of 2013 compared to the same period last year,

However…

Yesterday, Israel Army Radio, drawing on data from the Housing and Construction Ministry, reported that since the beginning of 2013 not one apartment has been marketed beyond the Green Line in Jerusalem. Israel Lands Administration sources indicated that the Prime Minister’s Office was directly delaying marketing of plots for housing in eastern Jerusalem.

To this, Avigdor Lieberman, head of Yisrael Beitenu and chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, responded:

“One should view this as a temporary hiatus. We have an interest in Kerry succeeding. You don’t always have to be right; you can also be smart.”

His observation that “you don’t always have to be right; you can also be smart,” is too close to Netanyahu’s “we have to be smart about it, not just correct,” to be a coincidence. Enough said, here.

This information is not really news — we knew it. What I wonder about is the dynamics of a situation in which building in a portion of our united — never again to be divided — capital is frozen by Netanyahu, while he crows about building that is going on in Judea and Samaria.

Maybe I’m looking for logic when there isn’t any. Maybe it’s just that Kerry whispered in Netanyahu’s ear that this is what might have the strongest impact on Abbas.

Now as to Syria, and US policy there. There had been talk about enforcing a no-fly zone, and that was rejected. Then it was decided that rebels would be “vetted” — to rule out the more radical elements — and “lethal” armaments that would help them to take down the Assad regime would be provided to them.

Today, however, we’re hearing that an immediate policy assessment is being called for because the rebel movement has become increasingly fragmented. One problem, then is that it’s close to impossible to weed out the radicals and provide assistance with any assurance that it will go only to relatively secular, moderate rebels — or to identify the rebel group with the strength that might allow them to succeed.

In addition, the fragmentation has weakened the rebels. The American administration is alarmed by the turning point in the civil war, which means that even if they determine to whom to send the weapons, it may be too late. Having taken Quasyr, Assad is now projecting a “major offensive” in the coming days, with the goal of fully taking Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, it is currently held by a mix of government loyalists and different, Some 5,000 Hezbollah fighters have now surrounded the city.

There is an expressed US concern about supply routes to get the weapons in, and time for training so they can be effectively used.

Anthony Cordesman, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, is cited by the JPost as saying, “Assad has established a relatively secure corridor along the Lebanese border…When you start actually drawing the map, you see what rebel-held really means, and it’s very sketchy.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has accused the Obama administration of “fiddling while Syria burns.” And indeed, indecisiveness is the mark of this administration. On Syria, Obama missed the boat.
