Phyllis Bennis is one America’s leading Anti-Israel activists. She is Jewish and for much of her life, a communist.
Currently she runs the New Internationalism Project at the highly influential and extreme left Institute for Policy Studies.
In 2001, she helped found the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation. She advises several leading United Nations officials on Palestine and in 2013, was in the running to become the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Territories.
In the past, she has been active in Students for a Democratic Society, the far left National Lawyers Guild and the pro-China, turned pro-Soviet, Line of March.
Here she explains her transition from a Los Angeles Zionist Youth activist, to becoming one of Israel’s most effective enemies in the United States.
Hello Terresa,
What we have here is a Jew whom grew up in a totally secular, very Left leaning Jewish family. Her parents were likely raised orthodox, but rebelled against that because they wanted to be more assimilated, more ‘American’. But they were Zionists because they were one step closer to the Holocaust than this cretin.
Our friend here learned to be an outright commie in college. It was, you know, hip and fun. And of course, that meant being anti-Israel. She was able to bridge the cognitive dissonance of actively hanging out with Jew haters by adopting a new religion….not having G-d in your life always leaves a gap, which such people try to fill in various ways.
Also, given that she can always use the mantra ‘azajoo’, she was always valuable to the Movement as a protective shield against accusations of anti-semitism.
Not an uncommon story of all.
