Kiss It Goodbye

Dear John (Republican Leadership),

It’s over. You can’t say I didn’t try. You told me what you needed to make this relationship successful. I answered those requests to the best of my ability. I have been faithful. I have supported you through thick and thin. You said that you needed more and I gave you more. You said you needed more friends and I gave you more friends. You said you needed more time and I gave you more time. You made promise after promise and I waited. I have waited for a very long time. I am waiting no longer. My life is running out and I’m still waiting. I cannot afford any more time or broken promises.

There is someone new. He is not my first choice, but he promises to put me first. He doesn’t ask for more of anything. He says that he has all he needs to keep your promises. I believe he will make sincere efforts to keep all of the promises you made to me but never delivered.

It has become very clear that you have taken my faithfulness for granted. You have taken my faith and abused it. You are so nice to me when you are asking for more, but then you don’t know me when it is time for you to keep your promises. You don’t like my friends even though they have helped you as I have. You call me and my friends names after we have supported you.

How much more abuse should I, and my friends, take from you and your ungrateful friends? I say, no more. I expect that you will become angry, resentful and accusatory. I expect that you will try to drive a wedge between me and my new friend. You may even try to harm him in some way. If you do, you will be exposing yourself and your friends as the frauds you have accused others of being.

Empty promises lead to empty lives. I deserve better.

Goodbye.
