Lloyd Doggett: Texas Representative finally comes out of the socialist “closet”

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Rep. Lloyd Doggett

Lloyd Doggett, a long time Texas congressman from the Austin/San Antonio area, has finally come out of the socialist “closet.”

Dogget has held office as a legislator in the Texas State Senate and served as a justice on the Texas Supreme Court, before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994.

Now after more than 20 years in Congress,  Representative Doggett has finally joined the socialist Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Founded in 1991 by the Marxists of Democratic Socialists of America and their decades-long ally Bernie Sanders, the Progressive Caucus is now 74 members strong and is far and away the most powerful faction in the Democratic Party.

DSA backed Lloyd Doggett before he was even a congressman.

In July 1984, Houston DSA members decided to support that year’s election campaign, by then State Senator Lloyd Doggett.

According to the August 1984 newsletter of the Houston Democratic Socialists of America:

At the July meeting we decided that DSA should provide identifiable DSA campaign workrs to the Lloyd Doggett campaign this Fall.

Sen. Doggett is certainly a candidate we can all support enthusiastically…

If you would like to be a DSA Doggett volunteer, call Bruce Griffiths at….

But Rep. Doggett would never openly support DSA’s congressional front group.

In 2014, DSA front group Progressive Democrats of America assigned activists to deliver their material to almost every US Congressman and Senator, Tim Duda, a one time leader of San Antonio Democratic Socialists of America, was assigned as the contact for Rep. Doggett.

Since 2015, DSA’s Austin local has re-formed and is now several hundred members strong. It has huge influence in the Travis County Democratic Party and has forged a strong alliance with Rep. Doggett, partially through its front group, the Austin local of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans.

Doggett with Danny Fetonte, Texas Alliance for Retired Americans and Democratic Socialists of America

Dogget, and Glenn Scott, Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, Democratic Socialists of America

According to DSA member Glenn Scott, President of the Austin Chapter of Texas Alliance for Retired Americans:

“Austin Reports a Terrific Medicare Event”, June 2015;

We had a terrific event on Saturday. We have put Austin TARA on the Austin/Central Texas political and advocacy map! Over 147 people attended the event which means we met our goal of 150! In part due to Congressman Doggett’s great reputation, we brought in many new faces. We went well beyond the TARA contact list for this event.

We built stronger ties with labor groups through this event. At least 8 unions or CLC and Building trades council contributed $. One key to turnout was our list of over 30 endorsing organizations. Most of the endorsing organizations sent at least 1 or 2 and some brought as many as 8 to 10. Austin DSA got 10 members there and TSEU brought the most with at least 12 or more. Congressman Doggett’s staff was another factor, – they did a letter to constituents and sent emails and did press for us in addition to our own efforts…

Maybe Rep. Doggett feels that his DSA comrades have more than earned his open support? Maybe after more than 30 years in public office, it’s time for Lloyd Doggett to nail his socialist colors to the mast?

Texas Marxist wins Community College Board of Trustees election: Socialism growing rapidly in “Lone Star” state

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

One more Marxist wins office in Texas…a trickle that must be stemmed before it becomes a tide.

In a surprisedown-ballot election victory, Austin Democratic Socialists of America member and Sanders campaign activist, Julie Ann Nitsch, won her runoff for Austin Community College Board of Trustees on December 13th, running as a Democrat.

Nitsch started her campaign at a clear disadvantage, lacking name recognition or a political resume. She had never held a public office, or served on any local boards or commissions. Meanwhile, her strongest opponent had served as ACC trustee for the previous 6 years, had a long resume of community activism, and received endorsements from most local Democratic elected officials and leaders.

But Nitsch did have the strong backing of a huge Bernie movement in Central Texas, a DSA chapter whose large membership provided over 100 block walkers and phone bankers, and the full support of Our Revolution (the national organization that grew out of the Sanders campaign) in the runoff election.

After volunteering for the Sanders campaign in the summer of 2015, Nitsch became the Campaign Coordinator of Texans for Bernie for Travis County and, later, one of five Austin DSA comrades who served as Sanders delegates at the DNC.

Nitsch’s progressive vision and strong support base made for a vigorous, people-powered campaign. According to Austin DSA Co-Chair Danny Fetonte, “DSA members provided the foot soldiers for the campaign.” Nearly 300 DSAers staffed phone banks, attended Democratic Clubs and union meetings with Nitsch, block walked, did mailings, and put up signs at member’s homes and at friendly businesses.

Our Revolution also played a pivotal role in Nitsch’s victory. They sent over 51,000 text messages and made over 13,000 calls to supporters during the campaign. According to volunteers, many of the people that voted for Nitsch did so as a direct result of Our Revolution’s concerted efforts.

The Texas Democratic Party is being heavily infiltrated by Democratic Socialists of America Marxists, who are enjoying explosive growth on the back of the Sanders Presidential campaign and the anti-Trump movement.

In recent months, DSA has opened locals all over Texas, from Dallas to El Paso, Houston to the Brazos Valley and San Antonio.

DSA locals, DSA website, 01.26.2017

Backed by union muscle and money, much of it from out of state, DSA aims to play a major role in the left’s rapidly expanding campaign to turn Texas blue.

This Marxist activism in the heart of Red State Texas should neither be ignored or underestimated. If Texas can be flipped back to the Democrats, there will never be another Republican or conservative President. America as we know it will be over.

Robyn Gabel: Meet Illinois’ Maoist State Representative

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Robyn Gabel

Robyn Gabel

The voters of Evanston, Illinois are poised to re-elect a veteran Maoist radical as their State Representative.

Robyn Gabel is a long-time resident of Evanston and has represented the people of the 18th District in the Illinois House of Representatives since 2010.

During her time in the legislature, she has been a legislative leader in protecting and fostering the growth of children and women in Illinois and environmental stewardship. Robyn serves as the Chair of the House Human Services Committee, the Vice-Chair of the House Human Services Appropriations Committee, and as a member of the committees on Insurance, Environment, Mass Transit, Business Growth and Incentives, and Museums, Arts and Cultural Enhancements.

In the 1980s, Robyn Gabel was a regular contributor to Unity, the newspaper of the League of Revolutionary Struggle, a militant, pro-China Maoist organization.

When the League of Revolutionary Struggle split in 1990, Unity issued a statement: “A call to build an organization for the 1990s and beyond.”

Gabel, then executive director of the Illinois Maternal & Child Health Coalition in Chicago, supported the newly founded Unity Organizing Committee, which was specifically established to infiltrate Maoists into the Democratic Party.

Ivan Handler

Ivan Handler

Rep. Gabel’s husband Ivan Handler, President at Insightamation, Chicago, is also a “former” Maoist.

In his book, “The Passage: Memoir of a Boston Undercover Cop in the ’60s,” Phillip M. Vitti explained that Ivan Handler was one of the leaders of the radical Weathermen, which was a precursor to the terrorist Weather Underground Organization.

Also a League of Revolutionary Struggle supporter, comrade Handler was active in the 1990s in the Committees of Correspondence, an alliance of former Communist Party USA members, Maoists, Trotskyists and anarchists.

Robyn Gabel, Jan Schakowsky

Robyn Gabel is also close to her local Congresswoman and fellow Marxist, Jan Schakowsky, a long time covert member and supporter of Democratic Socialists of America.

Jan Schakowsky Democratic Socialists of America endorsement, 2011

Schakowsky’s husband, Robert Creamer, yet another old Marxist (New American Movement) has been recently implicated in Democratic Party voter fraud and violence instigation scandals.

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) announced on Oct. 10, 2009 that she is endorsing Robyn Gabel in the Democratic primary for the Illinois’ 18th House District. Gabel was running to succeed Rep. Julie Hamos (D-Evanston), who left her seat to run for U.S. Congress in the 10th Congressional District.

“Robyn stands up for what she believes in,” said Rep. Schakowsky. “That is what her history has been about, that is what she has been dedicated to. We know how effective she is in actually getting things done, its not just talk. I know she will be able to hit that ground running, which is what we need in our district.”

Rep. Schakowsky, who was traveling to Afghanistan as part of a Congressional mission, made the remarks via video to a crowded room at Ms. Gabel’s new campaign office – 906 Sherman Ave. The event marked the official kick-off of Ms. Gabel’s campaign for State Representative.

“I am honored and humbled by Congresswoman Schakowksy’s endorsement and support,” said Ms. Gabel. “Our community has had a strong history of progressive leadership in Springfield with Jan Schakowsky and Julie Hamos. I hope to follow in their footsteps by continuing to fight for our children, families and community.”

Communists can always be relied on to stick together, to help each other climb the political ladder. They can also be relied on to keep each other’s secrets.

The good people of Evanston deserve better than to be represented by two covert Marxists.

Tom Wakely: Stealth Marxist Runs for Congress from San Antonio

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Tom Wakely, a member of the US’ largest Marxist organization, Democratic Socialists of America is running as a Democrat for Congress in Texas’ 21st District.

Mmmmooooo

It’s highly unlikely he will be successful. The 21st Congressional District, which covers northern San Antonio, last elected a Democrat in 1974. Wakely won the Democratic nomination with 59% of the vote and will face Republican Lamar Smith in the general election.

Wakely is a “card carrying” Democratic Socialists of America member, a fact that he has yet to feature in his campaign literature. How many Democratic voters in the 21st will have any idea they are voting for a Marxist?

That won’t matter to the Gramsci-loving DSA communists. The only way they will ever achieve power is by stealth and deception. The voters are too stupid to knowingly vote for socialism…so they must be tricked into voting for what’s good for them.

Buoyed by the huge success of the Bernie Sanders campaign, and a big influx of new members, DSA has renewed their efforts to infiltrate the Democratic Party all over the country. 40% of Texas’ Sanders delegates to the recent DNC in Philadelphia were DSA members. Several covert DSA comrades have stood in Democratic races this election cycle, from New York and Oregon, to North Carolina and Maine, including Oklahoma state representative candidate Billy Hinton.

Most are long shots, but this year’s efforts are really a trial run for 2018 and 2020, when DSA and others in the Sanders movement want to have a big impact on Congress and state legislators. They essentially want a complete takeover of the Democratic party and to flood Congress with fellow Marxists.

Tom Wakely was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in a traditional Catholic family. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly thereafter.

After his discharge from the military, Wakely joined socialist Cesar Chavez‘s Texas Farmworkers Union campaign.

Wakely was recruited by the DSA-dominated SEIU to organize hospital workers in Denver, Colorado. Two years later, he was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin working as a business agent for an independent union that represented Wisconsin Gas and Wisconsin Power employees.

After returning to Texas, Wakely and his wife ran a wine bar and jazz club, then managed a local hospice.

Tomop

Wakely’s major endorsement has come from the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans Austin local, which is led by DSA comrades Glenn Scott and Danny Fetonte.

Tom Wakely may admit his DSA membership on the DSA website, but he’s certainly not public about it.

Tom Wakely and his DSA comrades need to be called out publicly for their dishonest tactics. If you’re going to run for office, comrade Wakely, why not tell the people you’re a Marxist? Let them make a an informed choice. Is that too much to ask?

Trump Seen as Vehicle to Destroy GOP

By: Cliff Kincaid | Accuracy in Media

Trump

While showing an image of Donald Trump as a wrecking ball, veteran leftist operative Webster Tarpley told the recent Left Forum in New York City, “If we play this right, he can destroy the Republican Party.” The comments, delivered at the major left-wing gathering of the year, reflect the belief among “progressive” activists that the Donald J. Trump candidacy can be used to destroy the Republican Party and usher in a major period of Democratic Party rule, under the increasing influence of an openly socialist faction.

“This party must be destroyed,” Tarpley said, referring to the Republicans.

Tarpley’s analysis of the political scene takes on additional significance as we see evidence of communists and Mexican nationals protesting outside Trump rallies and assaulting Trump supporters. Tarpley’s audience was the Left Forum, which is described as “the largest annual conference of a broad spectrum of left and progressive intellectuals, activists, academics, organizations and the interested public.” The theme for this year’s event was “Rage, Rebellion, Revolution: Organizing Our Power.”

Those participating included the Democratic Socialists of America (which supported Barack Obama and now Bernie Sanders), the Southern Poverty Law Center, representatives of the governments of Cuba and Venezuela, the “Exonerate Ethel Rosenberg” campaign, CodePink, the Palestine Solidarity Committee, the Workers World Party, the Trans Queer Liberation Movement, and the Greek Communist Party.

A former operative in the movement led by Lyndon H. LaRouche, an aging Marxist ideologue who served time in prison on fraud charges, Tarpley is viewed by the left as an expert on the class struggle that defines the evolution of the American political system. He has been a prominent figure in the so-called 9/11 Truth Movement, which blames unnamed U.S. officials for carrying out the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. He is today associated with the Tax Wall Street Party, a group backing the Sanders proposal to raise taxes on financial transactions in order to finance a socialist super state.

Drawing on historical sources and stories about turmoil in the Trump campaign and the GOP, Tarpley predicted that Trump’s candidacy will divide the Republicans and result in one of its factions merely surviving as a regional party based in the Deep South, rural areas, and the intermountain West. However, he said the party itself has become so dependent on “aging white men,” a shrinking percentage of the electorate, that it may be “demographically doomed” in the long term.

Tarpley, who thinks Sanders has not gone far enough to the left, believes opposing Trump and calling him a fascist is a smart organizing tactic by the left. In his talk, “Destroy the GOP—Split the Dems,” Tarpley describes the Sanders campaign and associated groups as “New Deal Democrats,” as opposed to the “Wall Street Democrats” backing Hillary Clinton. Eventually, if everything goes according to plan, the Sanders wing of the Democratic Party will take control in a “progressive realignment,” and a “new progressive coalition” could emerge and dominate American politics for decades.

“Trump is the trigger” for this dramatic series of developments, he told the leftist conference, and it means the Republican Party could go “extinct,” since it is perceived as being hostile to the new immigrants who have flooded into the country. He is predicting a complete political realignment for the period 2016 to 2046.

However, left unsaid in his presentation is whether after Mrs. Clinton is presumably done with her first term as president, she could be challenged for another term by the Sanders wing of the party, possibly represented at that time by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

But the idea that Warren is somehow against the interests of Wall Street and finance capital is, of course, complete nonsense. She ran for the Senate with the support of hedge fund billionaire George Soros and other big money liberals.

While Tarpley is not a supporter of Mrs. Clinton or President Obama, he gives Obama, a skilled Marxist-trained operative, enormous credit for assembling a winning coalition in the presidential campaigns of 2008 and 2012. He explained, “2008 was a watershed election, and in retrospect that will become more obvious than it is now.” He said Obama had ushered in “a new phase” of politics that has put tremendous pressure on the Republican Party to generate support from enough of the electorate to survive as a national political entity.

“That future is what you have to keep your eyes on,” he emphasized. “That’s where you have to get. It means a crushing defeat for Trump, if we can do it.”

At the same time, Tarpley acknowledged that Trump supporters have “legitimate economic beefs,” based on the declining standard of living, and the fact that “deindustrialization” has harmed the middle class by destroying millions of factory jobs. But the Republican ideology is “in crisis,” as factions of the party disagree over the benefits of free trade and solutions to other economic problems. Other major Republican donors have libertarian tendencies that threaten the GOP coalition as well, he stated.

While the demise of the Republican Party may seem like wishful thinking, Tarpley outlined a political scenario that is plausible to outside experts and which could mean that the GOP would meet the fate of other political parties in American history—such as the Federalists, Whigs, and Know-Nothings — “by breaking apart” and losing the presidency, the Congress, and the Supreme Court in the process.

Tarpley’s predictions about Trump’s negative impact on the Republican Party came just a few weeks before Trump unleashed a series of attacks on a “Mexican” judge, who was actually born in the United States, prompting more concern from current and former Republican officials that the Trump presidential campaign could jeopardize Republicans prospects in November.

The destruction of the GOP also means the defeat of what Tarpley called the “neocon warmongers,” defined as those who favor U.S. military intervention against radical regimes and terrorist groups in the Middle East.

Continuing the pro-Russian bent that has long characterized the LaRouche movement, Tarpley favors the destruction of NATO. He was a speaker at the “No to War, No to NATO,” conference in Rome, Italy, which also included a representative of the old Soviet front, the U.S. Peace Council. Tarpley then participated in a forum on “good relations with the Russian Federation” held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

While Trump has been critical of U.S. military intervention in the Middle East and has questioned the need for NATO, a one-time anti-Soviet alliance, these positions were not of any interest or concern to Tarpley. Instead, Trump was viewed as an opportunity to divide and weaken the Republican Party.

With the Republican Party out of the way, the activists making up the Left Forum would be able to consolidate their power in the Democratic Party and move it even further to the left, in terms of more socialism at home and more accommodation of “anti-imperialist” and “anti-capitalist” forces abroad.

Marxist economist says Sanders will “double your income” – seriously!

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

The country’s largest Marxist organization Democratic Socialists of America, are completely in the tank for their comrade Bernie Sanders.

berniesocialist

DSA runs Labor for Bernie, People for Bernie and form the backbone of his campaign in many parts of the country. The Marxists are doing everything they can to get their man in the White House.

Marxist economist Gerald Friedman

Marxist economist Gerald Friedman

The latest piece of pro-Bernie Sanders propaganda comes from UMass Amherst economist and DSA member Gerald Friedman. According to the Communist Party’s Peoples World:

A major left economist has just completed an analysis of what the budget might look like under a President Sanders and gives it the thumbs up when it comes to jobs, growth, and equality.

People’s World obtained a copy of the new report which is just being released titled, “What would Sanders do? Estimating the impact of Sanders programs.” It is the work of economics professor Gerald Friedman and compiles two dozen of the major proposals released by the Sanders campaign…. It is the first complete overview of what could be expected if the Sanders plan was implemented in full.

Needless to say Senator Sanders’ program of ever increasing spending and taxation will lead to bounteous milk and honey for all.

With an ambitious $14.5 trillion dollars of investments, the agenda set out by Sanders is fully paid for with more than $16 trillion dollars of anticipated revenues. Through a combination of a 1 percent wealth tax on fortunes valued at more than $21 million, a financial transactions tax, lifting the cap on the Social Security payroll tax and extending it to dividend and capital gains income, a 4.75 percent employer payroll tax, as well as a host of other measures, Sanders’ plan would not only boost growth but also eliminate the budget deficit.

Among the big ticket spending items are a $1 trillion infrastructure plan – the Rebuild America Act – a $750 billion College for All program, an across-the-board Social Security increase totalling almost half a trillion, and Medicare for All – a $10 trillion rollout of healthcare for every American.

Putting paid to GOP claims that only tax cuts for the wealthy can deliver growth, Friedman demonstrates that Sanders’ massive public investments would act as a giant stimulus on the economy. Government output is predicted to spur businesses to hire and encourage workers to spend more, thus generating the need for even more hires – sparking a virtuous circle of growth….

By 2026, the expected unemployment rate would be 4.0 percent, rather than the currently forecast 5.4%. With more than 23 million new jobs, in economic terms this means that full employment would be reached by the end of Sanders’ second term.

It represents more than a doubling in real per capita income. Not only will more Americans be working, they will also be making more money.

The Marxists do realize that this Nirvana could be sabotaged by economic reality… but they’re going for it anyway.

As Friedman makes clear, “The Sanders program would, of course, face political obstacles to enactment.” Economic obstacles could also abound “if the Federal Reserve moves aggressively to abort the [Sanders] economic expansion by reducing monetary growth and raising interest rates.” There’s also the possibility of a strike by capital in which raising wages leads businesses to refuse new investment or to make further hires.

These are all the perils of attempting to implement an alternative to the current finance-dominated system of casino capitalism. In the words of Friedman, “In the end, success or failure rests on the strength of the political forces behind a Sanders Administration.” Acknowledging the hurdles doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a try though.

So if this plan fails, which it inevitably will… the socialists already have their scapegoat ready.

sanderscommie

The DSA Marxists know Sanders’ plan is utter garbage. They know Sanders’ plan is merely to achieve power, not to actually help Americans grow richer.

DSA believes in the total elimination of private business. According to DSA National Political Committee member David Green, writing in  Democratic Left, Spring 2007, page 10:

Our goal as socialists is to abolish private ownership of the means of production.

So apparently does their comrade Bernie Sanders. How is higher taxation and increased burdens on business going to double your income American voters?

The answer is that it won’t. And it’s not intended to. This plan is to get your vote…. to get socialists into power… and then destroy what’s left of your liberty.

That’s what socialists do folks. And that’s what Bernie Sanders and Democratic Socialists of America intend to do to you.

Selling Sanders, Socialism and Hypocrisy

By: Cliff Kincaid
Accuracy in Media

Millionaire businessman Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream was on CNN last week talking about his presidential candidate, career politician and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a “social democrat,” not a socialist. For his part, Cohen said, “You know, I’m a capitalist, clearly, and I support the guy.”

Capitalism has certainly been very good to Ben & Jerry. Their Vermont-based ice cream business is an American success story. But in 2012, they sold out to the British-Dutch conglomerate Unilever for a purchase price of $326 million. The result was that Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield became members of the one-tenth of one percent that Sanders rallies against. Cohen and Greenfield each has a reported net worth of $150 million.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the top one-tenth of one percent consists of 160,000 families with net assets of at least $20 million.

Unilever is worth $129 billion, according to Forbes magazine. Sounds like one of the big corporations Bernie should rail against.

During the Democratic presidential debate, Sanders said, “We’re gonna win because first, we’re gonna explain what democratic socialism is. And what democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong that the top one-tenth of one percent in this country own almost 90 percent—almost—own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. That it is wrong, today, in a rigged economy, that 57 percent of all new income is going to the top one percent.”

He called for a tax on Wall Street but not ice cream to pay for the free college educations he’s proposing for students. But a Wall Street tax would affect the 55 percent of Americans who report having money invested in stocks.

A popular Bernie Sanders meme notes that while he claims to want to get money out of politics, he bribes people with the promise of government benefits in exchange for votes.

What is clear is that Sanders, a true socialist, believes Americans have too many choices, and that apparently the government must step in to regulate and determine what’s best for consumers. “You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country,” he told CNBC. “I don’t think the media appreciates the kind of stress that ordinary Americans are working on.”

Unilever, which owns Ben & Jerry’s, produces many different kinds of deodorants. Labeled “The World’s No. 1 Antiperspirant” featuring “body-responsive antiperspirant technology,” Degree is available in a range of formats for men and women. They include:

  • Degree Men Dry Protection
  • Degree Men Fresh Deodorant
  • Degree Men Adrenaline Series
  • Degree Men Clinical Protection

Sanders hasn’t said anything about too many choices of ice cream. According to published reports, there are about 40 varieties of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream available in pint form. There are reportedly 159 ice cream brands available nationwide.

One could easily argue that underarm deodorants and sneakers are more important than ice cream. But CNN’s Carol Costello didn’t make that point.

In fact, Cohen said his company has produced another flavor, a Bernie Sanders ice cream called Bernie’s Yearning. He told Costello that the giant chip on the top represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top one percent of the population over the past 10 years. “And the way you eat it is that you whack it with your spoon, then you mix it around,” he said. “That’s the Bernie Yearning.”

We are all supposed to have a good laugh about all of this. Except that in socialist Venezuela, which Sanders once praised for shipping fuel to New England, there is a shortage of toilet paper.

That doesn’t bother the Hollywood super-rich. Blogger Steve Bartin notes that dozens of “artists and cultural leaders” have signed up as supporters of Sanders’ socialist program, including comedian Sarah Silverman, once quoted as saying unborn children are “just goo.” Bartin cites a piece by Professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds in The Wall Street Journal which says that Hollywood gets about $1.5 billion in tax credits and exemptions, grants, waived fees and other financial inducements. His source was a liberal group, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which noted that the funds could otherwise have been spent “on public services like education, health care, public safety, and infrastructure.”

In other words, services that could benefit what Sanders calls “ordinary Americans,” if only the Hollywood elite weren’t taking advantage of the taxpayers.

The Bernie Sanders campaign is proud of the Hollywood support. It says the number of “major artists from all genres of music, comedy, acting, writing, and producing” in support of Sanders has reached 125. They have their own special section on the “Sanders for president” website. Dr. Cornel West, honorary co-chair of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), is listed under the category of “academic/philosopher.”

Sanders supporter and Hollywood director Adam McKay, who with Will Ferrell, co-wrote and directed the films “Anchorman” and “Step Brothers,” said, “As artists and citizens we believe it is time for government to once again represent the people and not just big money. Bernie Sanders is the only candidate speaking against the widespread legalized corruption that has handed our government to billionaires, large corporations and banks.”

Columnist Doug Powers commented, “I assume liberal celebs are pulling for Sanders’ style of socialism because he’s going to eliminate the tax credit programs for billion-dollar entertainment corporations? That story line would be too unbelievable even for Hollywood.”

Taking the personal hypocrisy one step further, leftist filmmaker Michael Moore has been quoted as saying that Sanders won the Democratic presidential debate because he questions “the core system” of wealth and power in the U.S. Moore’s net worth has been estimated at $50 million and he just went through a messy divorce, revealing that he had a 10,000 square foot lakeside home in northern Michigan once valued at $2 million.

Meanwhile, sniffing a story here, The New York Times has run a piece, “Bernie Sanders Has Fund-Raiser at Fancy Hollywood Home,” noting that the socialist finished up the debate and then raised money at the home of wealthy real estate operator Syd Leibovitch. The paper reported that tickets for the event sold for a minimum of $250. Those who spent the maximum, $2,700, or who raised $10,000, were invited to a special “pre-event reception,” the paper said.

It sounds like a special benefit for the rich and powerful.

The names on the host list included Marianne Williamson, the famous New Age spiritual teacher who has called for repealing Columbus Day. One of Williamson’s other political objectives being promoted by her Peace Alliance group is a federal Department of Peacebuilding.

Perhaps Sanders will promote that idea in the next presidential debate, after he bashes the rich and announces which brands of sneakers, deodorant and ice cream will go out of business under his administration.

When will the rest of the media follow the lead of The New York Times and expose this “man of the people” and his Hollywood backers as the phonies they truly are?

The Religious Origins of the Sanctuary Movement

By: Cliff Kincaid
Accuracy in Media

Thanks to Donald Trump, the major media are being forced to cover the illegal immigration movement, such as the proliferation of “sanctuary cities” across the U.S. that attract criminal aliens, give them legal protection, and let them back out on the streets to commit more crimes. But the really taboo topic is how these sanctuary cities grew out of a movement started by the Catholic Church and other churches.

Over 200 cities, counties and states provide safe-haven to illegal aliens as sanctuary cities, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports. What has not yet been reported is that the Catholic Church, which gave President Obama his start in “community organizing” in Chicago, has been promoting the sanctuary movement for more than two decades.

What’s more, in April, a delegation of U.S. Catholic bishops staged a church service along the U.S.-Mexico border and distributed Communion through the border fence. At the same time, Pope Francis said a “racist and xenophobic” attitude was keeping immigrants out of the United States.

No wonder the pope’s approval ratings have been falling in the United States.  Overall, Gallup reports that it’s now at 59 percent, down from 76 percent in early 2014. Among conservatives, it’s fallen from 72 percent approval to 45 percent (a drop of 27 points).

“Few people are aware that this extreme left branch of the Catholic Church played a large part in birthing the sanctuary movement,” says James Simpson, author of the new book, The Red-Green Axis: Refugees, Immigration and the Agenda to Erase America.

Simpson says Catholic Charities, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and its grant-making arm, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, are prominent elements of the open borders movement.

The sanctuary movement has its roots in the attempted communist takeover of Latin America.

With the support of elements of the Roman Catholic Church, the Communist Sandinistas had taken power in Nicaragua in 1979. At the time, communist terrorists known as the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) were threatening a violent takeover of neighboring El Salvador. President Ronald Reagan’s policies of overt and covert aid for the Nicaraguan freedom fighters, known as the Contras, forced the defeat of the Sandinistas, leaving the FMLN in disarray. In 1983, Reagan ordered the liberation of Grenada, an island in the Caribbean, from communist thugs.

Groups like the Marxist-oriented Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) were promoting the sanctuary movement for the purpose of facilitating the entry into the U.S. of illegal aliens who were supposedly being repressed by pro-American governments and movements in the region. The U.S. Catholic Bishops openly supported the sanctuary movement, even issuing a statement in 1985 denouncing the criminal indictments of those caught smuggling illegal aliens and violating the law.  Section 274 of the Immigration and Nationality Act prohibits the transportation or harboring of illegal aliens.

Two Roman Catholic priests and three nuns were among those under indictment in one case on 71 counts of conspiracy to smuggle illegal aliens into the United States. One of the Catholic priests indicted in the scheme was Father Ramon Dagoberto Quinones, a Mexican citizen. He was among those convicted of conspiracy in the case.

Through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, an arm of the Bishops, the church has funded Casa de Maryland, an illegal alien support group which was behind the May 1, 2010, “May Day” rally in Washington, D.C. in favor of “immigrant rights.” Photographs taken by this writer showed Mexican immigrants wearing Che Guevara T-shirts, and Spanish-language communist books and literature being provided to rally participants.

An academic paper, “The Acme of the Catholic Left: Catholic Activists in the US Sanctuary Movement, 1982-1992,” states that lay Catholics and Catholic religious figures were “active participants” in the network protecting illegals. The paper said, “Near the peak of national participation in August 1988, of an estimated 464 sanctuaries around the country, 78 were Catholic communities—the largest number provided by any single denomination.”

A “New Sanctuary Movement” emerged in 2007, with goals similar to the old group. In May, the far-left Nation magazine ran a glowing profile of this new movement, saying it was “revived” by many of the same “communities of faith” and churches behind it in the 1980s.

One group that worked to find churches that would provide sanctuary to immigrants in fear of deportation is called Interfaith Worker Justice, led by Kim Bobo, who was quoted by PBS in 2007 as saying, “We believe what we are doing is really calling forth a higher law, which is really God’s law, of caring for the immigrant.”

But conservative Catholic Michael Hichborn of the Lepanto Institute says Interfaith Worker Justice is run by “committed Marxist socialists,” and that Bobo is “highly active and involved with the Democratic Socialists of America,” a group which backed Obama’s political career.
