Tom Wakely: Stealth Marxist Runs for Congress from San Antonio

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Tom Wakely, a member of the US’ largest Marxist organization, Democratic Socialists of America is running as a Democrat for Congress in Texas’ 21st District.

Mmmmooooo

It’s highly unlikely he will be successful. The 21st Congressional District, which covers northern San Antonio, last elected a Democrat in 1974. Wakely won the Democratic nomination with 59% of the vote and will face Republican Lamar Smith in the general election.

Wakely is a “card carrying” Democratic Socialists of America member, a fact that he has yet to feature in his campaign literature. How many Democratic voters in the 21st will have any idea they are voting for a Marxist?

That won’t matter to the Gramsci-loving DSA communists. The only way they will ever achieve power is by stealth and deception. The voters are too stupid to knowingly vote for socialism…so they must be tricked into voting for what’s good for them.

Buoyed by the huge success of the Bernie Sanders campaign, and a big influx of new members, DSA has renewed their efforts to infiltrate the Democratic Party all over the country. 40% of Texas’ Sanders delegates to the recent DNC in Philadelphia were DSA members. Several covert DSA comrades have stood in Democratic races this election cycle, from New York and Oregon, to North Carolina and Maine, including Oklahoma state representative candidate Billy Hinton.

Most are long shots, but this year’s efforts are really a trial run for 2018 and 2020, when DSA and others in the Sanders movement want to have a big impact on Congress and state legislators. They essentially want a complete takeover of the Democratic party and to flood Congress with fellow Marxists.

Tom Wakely was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in a traditional Catholic family. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly thereafter.

After his discharge from the military, Wakely joined socialist Cesar Chavez‘s Texas Farmworkers Union campaign.

Wakely was recruited by the DSA-dominated SEIU to organize hospital workers in Denver, Colorado. Two years later, he was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin working as a business agent for an independent union that represented Wisconsin Gas and Wisconsin Power employees.

After returning to Texas, Wakely and his wife ran a wine bar and jazz club, then managed a local hospice.

Tomop

Wakely’s major endorsement has come from the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans Austin local, which is led by DSA comrades Glenn Scott and Danny Fetonte.

Tom Wakely may admit his DSA membership on the DSA website, but he’s certainly not public about it.

Tom Wakely and his DSA comrades need to be called out publicly for their dishonest tactics. If you’re going to run for office, comrade Wakely, why not tell the people you’re a Marxist? Let them make a an informed choice. Is that too much to ask?

Jose LaLuz

Jose LaLuz is Executive Director of Servidores Publicos Unidos de Puerto Rico/AFSCME (United Public Employees of Puerto Rico).

He is currently associate director of the leadership academy of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and a vice chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. La Luz is credited as the architect of a grassroots campaign that resulted in a 1998 law granting bargaining rights and the right of unionization to 120,000 public employees in Puerto Rico.

A native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, LaLuz graduated from the State University of New York’s Empire State College with a B.A. in labor studies and earned an M.A. in labor studies at Rutgers University.

During his college years, LaLuz joined Students for a Democratic Society and in the early 1970s was active in the Connecticut branch of the Puerto Rican Socialist Party. Allied to Castro’s Cuba, the Marxist-Leninist PSP agitated for Puerto Rican independence and committed several bombings and other terrorist acts on U.S. soil.

LaLuz was expelled from the PSP in 1976 and went on to join the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee the following year. He became chairman of the Hispanic Commission of DSOC before the merger with the New American Movement that createdDemocratic Socialists of America in 1982.

In the late 1980s, LaLuz was active in the Communist Party USA initiated and dominatedU.S. Peace Council – an affiliate of the Soviet front World Peace Council.

He eventually became active in Democratic Party politics. In 2008, he was “on loan” toHillary Clinton’s primary election campaign and later was the chairman of Latinos for Obama and campaigned in Colorado and New Mexico registering, educating and mobilizing voters until election day.

LaLuz explained his tactics to the Peoples Weekly World:

“The Obama campaign is working in both New Mexico and Colorado, among other states, telling Latino voters about McCain’s terrible stands on the economy and about the horrible role Republicans have played and continue to play on immigration… “We are showing how the companies and outfits that exploit Latino workers are the people behind McCain,”

Between now and Election Day LaLuz said that the Obama campaign is registering voters in New Mexico and Colorado and developing lists of tens of thousands of Latino supporters for Obama.

Over 300 Sanders activists attended Democratic Socialists of America’s “Socialist Caucus” on July 27th, 2016. Jose LaLuz, DSA vice-chair and veteran labor and Puerto Rican rights activist, brought down the house with an impassioned plea to end United States colonial rule in Puerto Rico.

Stealth Socialist Billy Hinton Stands for Oklahoma State Representative

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Billy Hinton

Billy Hinton

Even the “Sooner” state  has its socialists and one of them – Billy Hinton – is standing under Democratic Party cover for District 32 of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

While Hinton is a long shot run, Oklahomans should be concerned that their Democratic Party is being covertly infiltrated by stealth Marxists.

A retired airline captain, Billy Hinton appears to be just another “good ole boy,” but the group to whom he owes loyalty to is anything but pro-American.

mmddffj

Democratic Socialists of America is America’s largest socialist organization, with about 7,000 members nationwide, including a newly established local in Oklahoma City. Despite its comparatively innocuous sounding name, DSA is a communist organization, taking its cues from the “revolution through infiltration” tactics of Italian Communist Party theorist Antonio Gramsci. The organization believes in “open borders,” complete government control of all private businesses, higher taxes, more regulation, increased refugee re-settlement, “global warming,” the complete LGBTQ agenda, Black Lives Matter, the destruction of the First and Second Amendments, etc., etc., ad nauseum.

gromp-1

There is no doubt that Billy Hinton is a DSA member. It says so right on the group’s website. It’s apparently just not meant for public consumption. Certainly Hinton doesn’t seem to advertise his Marxist loyalties in any of his campaign materials or broadcasts.

Nnhhhggggg

Other members of the 23 strong OKC DSA local include:

  • Amy Reigler-Hinton, Billy Hinton’s wife
  • Danny Castle, who is currently studying to be a deacon for the “Sacred Well Congregation of Texas, a Wiccan organization that provides clerical training in Traditional Craft Wicca
  • Leo Loveless, a gay rights activist who is currently transitioning from female to male
  • John Karlin, a retired professor of Sociology and Administration of Justice
  • Dwight Welch, Pastor at United Church of Norman
  • Mark Maxey, the OKC DSA chairman and a worker on Billy Hinton’s state representative campaign
Billy Hinton and Mark Maxey working on the campaign

Billy Hinton and Mark Maxey working on the campaign

If by some miracle Billy Hinton is able to defeat his Republican opponent, what can Oklahomans expect from their new stealth socialist state rep.?

You can bet it won’t be strict adherence to the US Constitution.

Try more taxes, more public spending, more gay rights, more “diversity,” more regulation on business, more “progressive” education, more socialism dressed up as “progressive” Democratic policy.

If Billy Hinton stood openly as what he is, a Marxist socialist, he would get laughed out of the District. So instead he is posing as a Democrat. He might even be your next state representative. If not now, at some time in the future. If he is not exposed now he might one day be a County Commissioner or a Congressman. If not him, then one of his comrades. Several serving Congress-members have been secret DSA comrades, including Danny Davis, Jan Schakowsky of Illinois and Jerry Nadler of New York. Don’t let these people turn  your Red State Blue.

Oklahomans, you have a covert socialist in your midst. Please circulate this information to expose him.

Southern Poverty Law Center in Bed With Extremists

By: Cliff Kincaid | Accuracy in Media

SPLC

Why is the FBI missing the extremists in our midst? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the organization consulted by the Department of Justice for information on extremists is in bed with them.

Evelyn Schlatter, the deputy director of research of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), was listed as a participant in the recent Left Forum conference, which featured an assortment of communists, 9/11 truthers, pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel activists, and other extremists. Schlatter was described as an expert on “right-wing political and social movements, gender, and sexuality.”

Schlatter should have some knowledge of left-wing political movements, especially since she rubbed elbows with some of their followers at the conference. Indeed, these far-left extremists are allies of the SPLC, which works directly with and advises the Obama Justice Department on hate groups and extremism. The FBI is under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department.

In the case of the Orlando terrorist attack on a gay nightclub, the SPLC has been careful to avoid discussing in any significant detail the killer’s devotion to radical Islam, including his regular attendance at a Mosque and the presence of a Koran, a Palestinian book, and other Islamic paraphernalia in his apartment. Instead, an article on the SPLC website described Omar Mateen as simply “a 29-year-old American citizen who worked as a security guard and had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State before the attack.” The article focused on the reactions of a few members of the “racist right” to homosexuals being targeted in the attack.

Fred Fleitz, senior vice president for policy and programs with the Center for Security Policy, says his organization was named by the SPLC as a “hate group” precisely because of “our work highlighting the threat from radical Islam.”

Denouncing the SPLC’s use of despicable tactics against leading conservatives, Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (ret.) has said that the SPLC is “probably next to the Muslim Brotherhood the most evil group in America.” The Muslim Brotherhood functions as a front for terrorist organizations but is treated as a friendly Muslim group by the Obama administration. Indeed, national security reporter Bill Gertz reports that Obama has issued Presidential Study Directive-11, backing the Muslim Brotherhood.

As if the Justice Department needed more evidence of how the SPLC can’t be trusted to report on “extremists” in America, the SPLC’s Schlatter was joined at the Left Forum by pro-terrorist lawyer Lynne Stewart. Stewart participated in a panel titled, “Free Our Political Prisoners,” a reference to terrorists in prison. Stewart knows something about terrorism. As noted by former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, she was convicted for helping the Blind Sheikh run his Egyptian terrorist organization, al-Gama’a al-Islamiyya or “the Islamic Group,” from his high-security U.S. prison confinement. However, Stewart was freed from prison by the Obama administration on medical grounds.

The chairman of the panel featuring Stewart was Jennifer Meeropol of the Rosenberg Fund for Children, an organization named for the Soviet spies Ethel and Julius Rosenberg.

An advertisement in the conference program guide proclaimed, “Time to Take Down the Wall between the Left and the Truth Movement. No Justice or Peace without Truth.” This was an attempt to get more left-wingers on board the 9/11 truth movement, which claims U.S. government agents—not Muslim terrorists—were behind the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A panel associated with this view argued that Islamophobia was responsible for blaming Muslims for the terrorist attacks.

Among the organizations joining with the Southern Poverty Law Center at the recent Left Forum in New York City were:

  • The Freedom Road Socialist Organization, a self-declared Marxist-Leninist organization raided by the FBI in 2010 because of its links to the terrorist FARC in Colombia and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Palestinian Marxist-Leninist terrorist group.
  • The Progressive Labor Party, whose motto is “Fight For Communism.”
  • Red Star Publishers, described as “a small publishing company dedicated to making Marxist-Leninist literature available in print format at low cost.” It isassociated with the Party of Communists USA and US Friends of The Soviet People.
  • Revolution Books, “A bookstore for a radically different world,” is associated with the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA, headed by former SDS leader Bob Avakian.
  • Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the largest socialist organization in the United States, and principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International.

The opening plenary was titled, “Capitalism and Militarism—at Humanity’s Peril,” and was predictably covered by Russia Today (RT) in a story headlined, “‘Democracy in the US is a fraud’ Left Forum debates next steps for Sanders movement.” Speakers were:

  • Medea Benjamin, an anti-Israel activist who co-founded Code Pink.
  • Tariq Ali, a British Pakistani associated with the Marxist Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Policy Studies, who co-wrote the screenplay for the Oliver Stone film glorifying Venezuelan Marxist ruler Hugo Chavez.
  • Chris Hedges, a former New York Times reporter who holds the distinction of being so far left that he was booed and greeted with chants of “USA” when he delivered a graduation speech on “War and Empire” at Rockford College in Illinois.

Titles of panels at the conference included:

  • The Proletariat is Still the Revolutionary Class.
  • Tear Down the Prison Walls!
  • Intifada in America: The History of the Palestine Left in the United States.
  • A Dialogue on Israel and Palestine With Tariq Ali and Norman Finkelstein.
  • Animal Liberation Strategies in the Face of Indifference and Repression.
  • Bully Nation: How Militaristic Capitalism Creates A Bullying Society.
  • One Year of the SYRIZA-ANEL Government in Greece: The Perspective of the Greek Communist Party (KKE).
  • Silencing Dissent: False Accusations of Anti-Semitism Against Palestine Solidarity.
  • Cuba—Political and Economic Reforms for 21st Century Socialism.
  • Prison Abolition: A Movement Towards New Directions.
  • Deconstructing Gender Identity Under Male Supremacy.
  • Some Reflections on the Russian Revolution.
  • A Call for Leninist Unity.
  • Queer Immigrant Organizing for Liberation.

Fleitz notes that the SPLC has become “a far left group with one purpose: manufacturing material to slander conservatives for use by the news media and on the Internet.” This is indeed why The Washington Post and other news organizations use the group in the first place. But the media carefully avoid any discussion of the extremists in bed with the SPLC, proving the essential dishonesty of what passes for coverage of extremism in American society.

Until this approach changes, on the part of the government and the press, Islamists will continue to escape scrutiny and kill Americans.

Iowa Marxists back Democrat Tom Fiegen for US Senate

By: Trevor Loudon | New Zeal

Iowa’s Marxists hope to elect one of their own to the US Senate this year.

Tom Fiegen

Tom Fiegen

Tom Fiegen is one of four Iowa Democrats hoping to win the June 7th primary to become the Democrat nominee contesting this year’s Iowa Senate race against Republican incumbent Chuck Grassley.

Fiegen is the only contender to have endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders‘ Presidential campaign, which has further endeared him to Sanders’ long-time backers Democratic Socialists of America.

Despite their comparatively “moderate” name, Democratic Socialists of America, like Sanders himself, draws inspiration from the “socialism through stealth” tactics of Italian Communist Party theoretician Antonio Gramsci.

gromp

Longtime Iowa City academic, DSA comrade and leading Sanders supporter, Jeff Cox, endorsed Tom Fiegen in a May 20th letter to the Iowa City Press-Citizen:

Jex Cox. Iowa City

Jeff Cox, Iowa City

Johnson County Democrats have an opportunity to revitalize a moribund Democratic Party by voting in the June primary for three county supervisor candidates who endorsed Bernie Sanders: Rod Sullivan, Kurt Friese and Jason T. Lewis. They represent the future of the Democratic Party, a party that says ‘yes we can’ rather than ‘no we can’t.’

We can also vote in the primary for the only Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate who endorsed Sanders, former state Sen. Tom Fiegen of Cedar County. He has a distinguished record of campaigning against factory farming and corporate agriculture. Unlike his opponents in the Democratic primary, he does not take campaign contributions from corporations, corporate political action committees or other campaign committees that accept corporate funding. Like Sanders, Tom Fiegen is not for sale.

Jeff Cox is a longtime Democratic activist and the point man for a Johnson County steering committee which helped draft Sanders for the 2016 presidential contest.

400px-Isu

At the University of Iowa – Ames, the local Young Democratic Socialists branch, has endorsed Tom Fiegen and are actively training members and supporters to join his campaign.

400px-Fago

Hey everyone, a quick reminder that there will be a surrogate training for Tom Fiegen this Saturday. We strongly endorse Tom, and would love to spread the word about his plans for senate on campus. This training will be the best way to get started!!

This is not the first time Iowan Marxists have supported Tom Fiegen.

In 2004, Democratic Socialists of America targeted local races where control of state houses were up for grabs and where statewide electoral vote outcomes hinged on successful local district turnouts.

In Iowa, Tom Fiegen—who says his politics are in the tradition of the radical lay Catholic Worker Movement,—is attempting a return to the Iowa state Senate (District 40)..”

In Democratic Socialists of America’s Democratic Left Winter 2004/2005, Theresa Alt wrote:

We reported on the candidates that DSAers were supporting in the last issue of Democratic Left. How did they do?Longshot progressive insurgents Al Weed in Virginia, Lin Whitworth in Idaho, Dave Franker and Tom Fiegen all lost.

Let’s hope this attempt is as unsuccessful as the last. Iowa just got rid of long-serving socialist Senator Tom Harkin in 2014.

Does the Hawkeye State really want to send another Marxist to Washington?

Free Otto Warmbier!

By: Cliff Kincaid | Accuracy in Media

A student who studied economics at the prestigious University of Virginia has been sentenced to 15 years in the North Korean gulag for stealing a banner praising the patriotic socialism of the late communist dictator Kim Jong Il. Otto Warmbier was on a trip to the communist workers’ paradise sponsored by Young Pioneer Tours, and apparently wanted a souvenir or memento.

It’s not clear if he was a Bernie Sanders-style socialist or a member of the campus Democratic club. In any case, he didn’t realize the power of the state. Perhaps he is a victim of academia or Sanders’ notion of socialism.

Washington Post columnist Christine Emba, in an article on our “socialist youth,” writes about how socialism seems to have become “the political orientation du jour among voters of a certain (read: young) age.” Emba says socialism has ceased to be a dirty word, and there’s nothing wrong with young people turning out in support of the “democratic socialist” Sanders.

American Spring – Bread and Circuses

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton

George Soros

It was a hot time in the old town the other night in Chicago. Donald Trump was scheduled to speak at a rally there with thousands in attendance. That rally had to be cancelled because thousands of violent protesters showed up. Many had tickets to the event. The protest seems to have been organized by MoveOn.org, Bill Ayers and Code Pink. CPUSA, Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refugee Rights and ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) also had a hand in it. George Soros has invested approximately $15 million to stage protests like this one to ensure a Clinton victory in November. Troops on the ground included La Raza, the Black Lives Matter movement, the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panthers. It was a who’s who of anarchists, extremists, radicals and freaks. Trump never even arrived at the event. He told the attendees to disperse and go in peace. Unfortunately, it did not go down that way. The decision to cancel the event was Trump’s and was not a recommendation from the police. I say he made the right call on this one.

Bernie Sanders of course blamed Trump, which is just ridiculous. Donald Trump has a right to free speech. The protesters also have a right to protest, but peacefully. They weren’t doing that, so the police should have dispersed them. This is what Sanders had to say:

“As is the case virtually every day, Donald Trump is showing the American people that he is a pathological liar,” Sanders wrote. “Obviously, while I appreciate that we had supporters at Trump’s rally in Chicago, our campaign did not organize the protests. What caused the protests at Trump’s rally is a candidate that has promoted hatred and division against Latinos, Muslims, women, and people with disabilities, and his birther attacks against the legitimacy of President Obama. What caused the violence at Trump’s rally is a campaign whose words and actions have encouraged it on the part of his supporters.”

Bernie Sanders is a Communist Part 1: The Democratic Socialists of America Connection

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

Democratic US Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is a pro- totalitarian communist.

Everybody knows that Sanders, the grandfatherly Independent Senator from Vermont is a “democratic socialist.” He’s made no secret of it over the years, proudly proclaiming to anyone who will listen. To most people it’s no big deal: “at least he’s honest,” they’ll chuckle. Most people seem to imagine that Grandpa Bernie’s socialism is benign, owing much more to Sweden than Cuba, much more to modern West Germany, than to the old Soviet-controlled German Democratic Republic.

Senator Sanders

Senator Sanders

But is Bernie Sanders really being honest? What if he is actually more of a communist? A believer in class struggle? Of crushing the free enterprise system?

Firstly, I want to present evidence that Senator Sanders was never a true Independent, as he liked to portray himself before standing as a Democrat. That he is in fact, a member of a semi-secret political organization. Secondly, I want to prove that that organization, in spite of labeling itself ‘socialist,’ is in fact, a communist grouping – with all the negative connotations that it implies.

For several decades, Bernie Sanders has been closely associated with Democratic Socialists of America, the country’s largest openly leftist organization. Senator Sanders has keynoted several DSA conferences, numerous DSA fundraisers have raised money for him, DSA backed his 2006 Senate campaign and now, the group is actively encouraging him to run for the White House in 2016.

DSA website, accessed December 4, 2014

But, as far as I’m aware, there has never been any evidence that Sanders is actually a DSA member.

Until now: Madison Democratic Socialists of America has confirmed Senator Sanders’ long suspected DSA membership on page one of their Fall 2014 newsletter (though getting his state of origin incorrect).

Madison DSA News, Fall 2014, page 1

Madison DSA News, Fall 2014, page 1.

Page 1 closeup

Page 1 Closeup

Equally important, we featured a petition to encourage Bernie Sanders – the independent Maine Senator and DSA member – to run for president, collecting over 75 signatures.

Though their geography may be poor, there is no reason to believe that the Madison DSAers were either lying or mistaken about Senator Sanders’ DSA membership status. Membership status is a big deal in leftist organizations. Dues-paying membership elevates one to the elite ranks of the Progressive movement. Formal “paid up” Party membership is not taken lightly. Clearly Sanders’ DSA membership is not for public consumption. Probably the “cheesehead” socialists believed that only sympathizers would ever bother to read their little newsletter.

After all, what’s a little secret between trusted comrades?

So, now I’ve established that Senator Sanders is probably a closet DSAer, why is that of concern?

My contention is simple. Despite using the word “socialists” in its name, DSA is, for all practical purposes, a communist organization. Because most DSAers are also active Democrats, or Green Party activists, the “socialist” label doesn’t meet the degree of resistance, that the more honest description “communist” would.

DSA works very closely with three of America’s leading communist groups – the Maoist-leaning Freedom Road Socialist Organization, the “old guard” Communist Party USA and the CPUSA spin-off Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. The four groups have even seriously considered merging in recent years. In June 2013, “The Future of the Left – A Conversation on Socialist Unity” was convened in New York City by the four groups, where the idea of eventual unification was discussed in depth.

DSA draws most of its ideas and inspiration from Chicago radical, Saul Alinsky and Italian Communist Party theoretician, Antonio Gramsci.

Orange County California DSA acknowledged the organization’s debt to Gramsci in its February 1984 newsletter.

gramsci

“Antonio Gramsci was a founder of the Italian Communist Party. He developed theories on “open ended Marxism” and independent Euro-Communism. His writings have remained influential among European parties of the left for several decades. They have also formed a vital part of the ideas that brought about the formation of today’s DSA.”

DSA is completely opposed to the free enterprise system that has made America great. In an article in DSA’s Democratic Left, Spring 2007, DSA National Political Committee member David Green of Detroit, wrote in support of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) or “card check.”

What distinguishes socialists from other progressives is the theory of surplus value. According to Marx, the secret of surplus value is that workers are a source of more value than they receive in wages. The capitalist is able to capture surplus value through his ownership of the means of production, his right to purchase labor as a commodity, his control over the production process, and his ownership of the final product. Surplus value is the measure of capital’s exploitation of labor

Green went on to write:

Our goal as socialists is to abolish private ownership of the means of production. Our immediate task is to limit the capitalist class’s prerogatives in the workplace…

Communist enough for you folks?

Bernie Sanders is no European style social democratic “socialist.” He is a totalitarian communist and he should have the integrity to be honest about it.

Selling Sanders, Socialism and Hypocrisy

By: Cliff Kincaid
Accuracy in Media

Millionaire businessman Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream was on CNN last week talking about his presidential candidate, career politician and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a “social democrat,” not a socialist. For his part, Cohen said, “You know, I’m a capitalist, clearly, and I support the guy.”

Capitalism has certainly been very good to Ben & Jerry. Their Vermont-based ice cream business is an American success story. But in 2012, they sold out to the British-Dutch conglomerate Unilever for a purchase price of $326 million. The result was that Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield became members of the one-tenth of one percent that Sanders rallies against. Cohen and Greenfield each has a reported net worth of $150 million.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the top one-tenth of one percent consists of 160,000 families with net assets of at least $20 million.

Unilever is worth $129 billion, according to Forbes magazine. Sounds like one of the big corporations Bernie should rail against.

During the Democratic presidential debate, Sanders said, “We’re gonna win because first, we’re gonna explain what democratic socialism is. And what democratic socialism is about is saying that it is immoral and wrong that the top one-tenth of one percent in this country own almost 90 percent—almost—own almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. That it is wrong, today, in a rigged economy, that 57 percent of all new income is going to the top one percent.”

He called for a tax on Wall Street but not ice cream to pay for the free college educations he’s proposing for students. But a Wall Street tax would affect the 55 percent of Americans who report having money invested in stocks.

A popular Bernie Sanders meme notes that while he claims to want to get money out of politics, he bribes people with the promise of government benefits in exchange for votes.

What is clear is that Sanders, a true socialist, believes Americans have too many choices, and that apparently the government must step in to regulate and determine what’s best for consumers. “You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country,” he told CNBC. “I don’t think the media appreciates the kind of stress that ordinary Americans are working on.”

Unilever, which owns Ben & Jerry’s, produces many different kinds of deodorants. Labeled “The World’s No. 1 Antiperspirant” featuring “body-responsive antiperspirant technology,” Degree is available in a range of formats for men and women. They include:

  • Degree Men Dry Protection
  • Degree Men Fresh Deodorant
  • Degree Men Adrenaline Series
  • Degree Men Clinical Protection

Sanders hasn’t said anything about too many choices of ice cream. According to published reports, there are about 40 varieties of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream available in pint form. There are reportedly 159 ice cream brands available nationwide.

One could easily argue that underarm deodorants and sneakers are more important than ice cream. But CNN’s Carol Costello didn’t make that point.

In fact, Cohen said his company has produced another flavor, a Bernie Sanders ice cream called Bernie’s Yearning. He told Costello that the giant chip on the top represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top one percent of the population over the past 10 years. “And the way you eat it is that you whack it with your spoon, then you mix it around,” he said. “That’s the Bernie Yearning.”

We are all supposed to have a good laugh about all of this. Except that in socialist Venezuela, which Sanders once praised for shipping fuel to New England, there is a shortage of toilet paper.

That doesn’t bother the Hollywood super-rich. Blogger Steve Bartin notes that dozens of “artists and cultural leaders” have signed up as supporters of Sanders’ socialist program, including comedian Sarah Silverman, once quoted as saying unborn children are “just goo.” Bartin cites a piece by Professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds in The Wall Street Journal which says that Hollywood gets about $1.5 billion in tax credits and exemptions, grants, waived fees and other financial inducements. His source was a liberal group, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which noted that the funds could otherwise have been spent “on public services like education, health care, public safety, and infrastructure.”

In other words, services that could benefit what Sanders calls “ordinary Americans,” if only the Hollywood elite weren’t taking advantage of the taxpayers.

The Bernie Sanders campaign is proud of the Hollywood support. It says the number of “major artists from all genres of music, comedy, acting, writing, and producing” in support of Sanders has reached 125. They have their own special section on the “Sanders for president” website. Dr. Cornel West, honorary co-chair of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), is listed under the category of “academic/philosopher.”

Sanders supporter and Hollywood director Adam McKay, who with Will Ferrell, co-wrote and directed the films “Anchorman” and “Step Brothers,” said, “As artists and citizens we believe it is time for government to once again represent the people and not just big money. Bernie Sanders is the only candidate speaking against the widespread legalized corruption that has handed our government to billionaires, large corporations and banks.”

Columnist Doug Powers commented, “I assume liberal celebs are pulling for Sanders’ style of socialism because he’s going to eliminate the tax credit programs for billion-dollar entertainment corporations? That story line would be too unbelievable even for Hollywood.”

Taking the personal hypocrisy one step further, leftist filmmaker Michael Moore has been quoted as saying that Sanders won the Democratic presidential debate because he questions “the core system” of wealth and power in the U.S. Moore’s net worth has been estimated at $50 million and he just went through a messy divorce, revealing that he had a 10,000 square foot lakeside home in northern Michigan once valued at $2 million.

Meanwhile, sniffing a story here, The New York Times has run a piece, “Bernie Sanders Has Fund-Raiser at Fancy Hollywood Home,” noting that the socialist finished up the debate and then raised money at the home of wealthy real estate operator Syd Leibovitch. The paper reported that tickets for the event sold for a minimum of $250. Those who spent the maximum, $2,700, or who raised $10,000, were invited to a special “pre-event reception,” the paper said.

It sounds like a special benefit for the rich and powerful.

The names on the host list included Marianne Williamson, the famous New Age spiritual teacher who has called for repealing Columbus Day. One of Williamson’s other political objectives being promoted by her Peace Alliance group is a federal Department of Peacebuilding.

Perhaps Sanders will promote that idea in the next presidential debate, after he bashes the rich and announces which brands of sneakers, deodorant and ice cream will go out of business under his administration.

When will the rest of the media follow the lead of The New York Times and expose this “man of the people” and his Hollywood backers as the phonies they truly are?
