LIBERTARIANS: CONGRESS SHOULD END BARACK’S WAR

“Congress should re-assert its authority in matters of war, by passing legislation that terminates the president’s authorization to make war in Afghanistan, and that calls for an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan. If the president vetoes it, Congress should override the veto.”

Libertarian Party Chairman Bill Redpath

TROOPS DIED WHILE OBAMA DITHERED

“One hundred and sixteen U.S. troops died in Afghanistan between August 30, when Gen. Stanley McChrystal first reported that reinforcements were needed, and Tuesday, when President Barack Obama prepared to announce that he will send 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. There were 58 U.S. casualties in Afghanistan in October alone, making that the deadliest month of the war. There were 37 U.S. casualties in Afghanistan in September, but in November, U.S. casualties in Afghanistan dropped to 17.”

CNS News, 12/2/09

CLUBBING NAVY SEALS

“Last week, Fox News reported a jaw-dropping story about how our war on terror has now become a war on ourselves. In September, a team of Navy SEALs captured terrorist Ahmed Hashim Abed, the architect of the vicious and deadly attack on four American contractors in the summer of 2004. But instead of hailing the SEALs as heroes for bringing this vicious murderer to justice, three of them have been brought up on charges – for allegedly punching the man who shot, burned, and then desecrated the bodies of the four contractors. It’s time the American people started getting very vocal in their outrage.”

L. Brent Bozell III of the Media Research Center

VOTING IN IGNORANCE

“When I came to America in 1980 and experienced life in this country, I thought it was fortunate that those living in the USSR did not know how unfortunate they were. Now in 2009, I realize how unfortunate it is that many Americans do not understand how fortunate they are. They vote to give government more and more power without understanding the consequences.”

UNITED AGAINST HUCKABEE

Only last Sunday former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee told ‘Fox News Sunday’ that it was looking ‘less likely than more likely’ he’d run for president again in 2012. Republicans, he said, would have to show themselves more ‘willing to unite behind’ him than they did during last year’s campaign. Only 24 hours later, he became embroiled in a scandal for having commuted the sentence of a convicted felon who’s now accused of murdering four police officers in Washington State on Sunday morning. Though Maurice Clemmons has been killed in a confrontation with police, chances have become nil that Republicans might ‘unite behind’ Mr. Huckabee in 2012.”

John Fund, Political Diary, 12/1/09

A TALE OF TWO MCCAINS

“John McCain? Co-sponsored McCain-Feingold, wants to control the ‘gun show loophole,’ soft on immigration, drank the climate change Kool-Aid with Newt (Gingrich), among other transgressions, yet still maintains a respectable 70 percent or so voting record with the American Conservative Union, is a hawk on big spending and foreign policy, opposes Obamacare and this Cap and Trade Bill – and he’s why we’ve heard of Sarah (Palin). . . . What accounts for McCain’s political inconsistencies requires psychological insights deeper than I possess. Suffice that they are about to cause him a tough fight for re-nomination by his own party.”

Talk-show host Emil Franzi

STRIKING FEAR IN RINO HEARTS

“Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R) — two of conservatives’ favorite anti-illegal immigration firebrands and potential 2010 candidates for statewide office in Arizona — have teamed up to raise more than $100,000 as part of a holiday party being held Dec. 5. A recent poll from Rasmussen Reports showed Arpaio leading all comers in the Arizona governor’s race, while Hayworth is in a statistcal tie with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in a hypothetical primary match-up. Both men have been coy about their intentions but any sort of electoral alliance between the two would strike fear into the hearts of centrist Republicans in the state.”

CQ Politics, 12/1/09

AN ACORN BY ANY OTHER NAME JUST AS CORRUPT

“ACORN is in the process of changing its name and has already transferred many of its resources to other left-wing advocacy and political groups, according to a report released Tuesday by Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. While the Justice Department has said that federal housing funds should continue flowing to ACORN, several congressmen are calling for a special prosecutor to investigate the group’s use of taxpayer dollars.”

CNS News, 12/2/09

OBAMA-CARE SUPPORT ON LIFE SUPPORT

“The polling data for ObamaCare just keeps getting worse with each passing week. Gallup’s polling shows that a majority of Americans now want their congressman to vote ‘no’ on a health-care bill. Support has been dropping among all groups since early October: down six points among Democrats, twelve points among Republicans and eight points among independents. The crucial independent voters now oppose passage by 53-37.”

Stephen Moore, Political Diary, 12/2/09

WHY THE HURRY?

“It’s no wonder [Democrats] are in such a hurry to pass this (health care) bill. The more people get to see it, the less they want it to pass.”

South Carolina GOP Senator Jim DeMint

UNINSURED MYTH

“Myth: There are 46 million people uninsured. This may surprise you, but politicians tend to exaggerate to get you on their side. This inflated number is about as realistic as an Oliver Stone-directed biopic. I assure you that there are not 46 million people in this country who want health insurance yet are unable to afford it. For one thing, this number includes 10 million illegal immigrants, who should not have access to any government entitlements. After that, you have to look at how many people who don’t have insurance could purchase it if they made insurance a priority.”

Jeremy Lukens in the Examiner.com, 12/1/09

BACKDOOR INSURANCE FOR ILLEGALS

“The Washington Times is out with a new report warning that, in fact, one million illegal aliens could be covered (by the new health insurance bill) if employers are required to cover their workers. So yes, they might not be eligible for the public option or federal subsidies, as Newsweek pointed out, but they could still benefit through the employer mandate.”

Ocean State Policy Research Institute, 12/1/09

MUTH’S TRUTHS

In his speech finally announcing that he finally made a final decision on what to do in his war in Afghanistan – implement a Bush-like “surge” – President Barack Obama said, “I will end the war successfully.”

But as our pal Rich Galen of Mullings.com wrote last evening, even non-military citizens will recognize that this means “the President’s goal is not to succeed in Afghanistan, but to end the war in Afghanistan.”

Galen went on to quote Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, who said to Galen, “Imagine if FDR had done a fireside chat during World War II and told the American people he was going to end the war in Europe rather than saying he was going to defeat the Nazis.”

Indeed.

BO is no FDR.

Health Care Provisions Still Soft on Illegal Aliens
Amendments Expected to Target Issue

Assurances that the two health-care reform bills would not benefit illegal aliens are not accurate. A new report from the Center for Immigration Studies examines in detail the immigration-related provisions of both the House-passed HR 3962 and the bill now being debated in the Senate, HR 3590. The report concludes that the bills, in their current form, would indeed give illegal aliens access to taxpayer-funded health care well beyond emergency medical treatment.

The report, “Immigration-Related Provisions of Senate and House Health Reform Bills,” is authored by CIS Fellow James R. Edwards, Jr. Key findings include:

  • HR 3962 ensures illegal alien access to the exchange and public option. HR 3590 states illegal immigrants are excluded from these.
  • Both bills ostensibly bar illegal aliens from receiving the premium subsidy, and both bills use some form of eligibility verification for the subsidy.
  • Both bills expand Medicaid eligibility. Both bills lack verification requirements based on citizenship or immigrant status. Both contain serious loopholes to enroll illegal aliens easily into Medicaid. HR 3962 automatically covers anchor babies.
  • The eligibility verification process in each bill falls woefully short of protecting taxpayer liability to cover or subsidize people living unlawfully in the United States. Both the House and Senate bills’ verification processes will encourage large-scale fraud and abuse.
  • The Senate bill exempts illegal aliens from the mandate that everyone have health insurance or else face a tax penalty. This perverse exemption treats illegal aliens better than the bill treats American citizens.

MUTHS TRUTHS

As the Ensign Turns

In his exclusive interview with Alan Stock on KXNT radio on Monday, Sen. John Ensign said he would not resign because “We only have 40 US senators. The Democrats have 60. Another senate race here would take resources from defeating Democrats in states across the country. We need to increase, not decrease our numbers.”

Really?

Too bad Ensign didn’t think about that in 2008 when he lost 8 Republican U.S. Senate races while head of the Senatorial Committee because he was too busy trying to cover up the fact that he’d been sleeping with his best friend’s wife….while she and he were working for him. The Democrats have 60 seats today BECAUSE of John Ensign. Hasn’t he “helped” enough already?

Ensign also said he wasn’t going to resign because it would hurt efforts to knock off Harry Reid.

Oh, puh-lease. If Ensign really wanted to knock off Harry Reid he’d knock off this non-aggression pact he has with the Sage from Searchlight. And he’d have recruited, rather than discouraged, top GOP candidates against Reid in 2006. And he would have helped the Republican candidate that year instead of treating him like a leper.

The notion that suddenly John Ensign is going to help defeat Harry Reid when Harry Reid controls the Senate Ethics Committee which should be investigating Ensign doesn’t even pass the snicker test.

Ensign also said the decision on whether or not to resign “isn’t about me. It’s about supporting the principles of freedom, conservatism, and the Constitution.”

Bull. It’s all about John. Always has been. Always will be.

The fact is Rep. Dean Heller would fill John’s shoes in the Senate nicely. Actually, considering the fact that Heller voted against the TARP bailout and Ensign voted for it, the principles of freedom, conservatism and the Constitution would be in much better hands with Dean Heller in the Senate than John Ensign.

And I’m not the only one who thinks so. The Dean of Nevada Pundits agrees.

“Who do you think the Republicans would rather have occupying (Ensign’s U.S. Senate) seat in 2010,” muses Jon Ralston in his Las Vegas Sun column this morning, “an exposed hypocrite who is a national laughingstock and GOP albatross or a freshly appointed clean horse (hello, Rep. Dean Heller) the Democrats would have little chance to defeat and who could give buoyancy to a state top-of-the-ticket?”

As for Ensign wanting to be helpful and not hurtful to the GOP candidates next year, Ensign actually said, with a straight face, “A lot of people running for office next year….actually want me involved in their campaigns.”

Really? Name two.

By the way, when asked by reporter Sean Whaley of our Nevada News Bureau if any of her candidates were seeking Sen. John Ensign’s involvement in their campaigns, “(Heidi) Gansert, the Assembly minority leader, said it is a bit early in the campaign for endorsements.”

Really?

On Tuesday of this week Gansert went on Sam Shad’s Nevada Newsmakers show and publicly endorsed Brian Sandoval for governor over Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons.

Talk about a forked tongue. Then again, maybe Heidi is practicing speaking out of both sides of her mouth in hopes of replacing Ensign when he’s finally dragged kicking and screaming out of his U.S. Senate office.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“(Sen. John Ensign) said he is staying involved because of his principles, and he thinks he can help. ‘A lot of people running for office next year want me involved in their campaigns.’ . . . In truth, GOP strategists laugh at the prospect of Ensign campaigning with anyone facing voters next year. The party does not expect him to be involved at all.” – Hotline On Call, 12/1/09

9/11 NEVER FORGET COALITION SAYS FAILURE TO CONSULT NYC POLICE COMMISSIONER SHOWS AG HOLDER TRIAL DECISION PUT POLITICS OVER SECURITY

Coalition expresses shock at breaking reports that NYC Mayor Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Kelly were not consulted prior to Holder’s 9/11 trial announcement

As security concerns mount, thousands to descend on Foley Square at noon on Saturday to protest bringing terrorist back to New York City for trial

New York, December 2, 2009 — According to breaking news reports, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has stated that city officials were not consulted prior to announcing a decision to bring the 9/11 terrorist conspirators to trial in a New York City civilian court.

Commissioner Kelly was asked whether U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder consulted with the NYPD in advance about security concerns surrounding the possibility of holding the terror trial in New York. Kelly responded: “The fact is we weren’t asked. And we will make the best of a situation. We weren’t.”

A spokesperson for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has asserted that the Mayor was informed of the decision only on the very morning Attorney General Holder made his announcement.

“There was no consultation, no consultation with the police department. That decision was made. We were informed,” Commissioner Kelly added on Tuesday.

Debra Burlingame, co-founder of 9/11 Families for a Safe & Strong America, who is organizing a massive rally this Saturday, December 5th, at Foley Square, stated today, “This shocking revelation makes it crystal clear that the Attorney General’s decision to bring Khalid Shaikh Mohammed to New York City was pre-ordained, and he wasn’t about to ask for input that would have resulted in his having to defend the indefensible.”

According to the New York Daily News, New York City spends $300 million per year for ordinary counterterrorism operations. “The Attorney General told 9/11 families that bringing these monsters to NYC is a ‘trust me situation,’ ” said Burlingame. “The American people should not trust the judgment or competence of the nation’s chief law enforcement officer who revealed that he consulted his wife over the decision but not the government officials who are entrusted with our safety and security and who will have to deal with the consequences of that decision.”

On Saturday at noon, thousands will rally at Foley Square at the federal courthouse where the trial, if the decision is not reversed, will take place. Two weeks ago, the 9/11 Never Forget Coalition sent a letter signed by 300 family members of 9/11 victims to the President, Attorney General and Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking them to reverse course. The letter has now been signed by over 135,000 Americans and is posted at http://www.911familliesforamerica.org

251 Congressmen and 58 Senators Sign Congressional Brief in McDonald v Chicago

251 members of the House and 58 Senators including Harry Reid

Bipartisan Majority of U.S. Congress Signs Amicus Brief Supporting NRA’s Position in Pivotal Supreme Court Case

Monday, November 23, 2009

Fairfax, Va. — An overwhelming, bipartisan majority of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have signed an amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” brief supporting the NRA’s position that the Second Amendment is incorporated against the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. The amicus brief, bearing the signatures of 251 Members of Congress and 58 Senators, was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court today in the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago.

Last week, the NRA filed its brief with the Supreme Court as Respondent in Support of Petitioner in the McDonald case. The NRA brief asks the Court to hold that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.

“The framers of the Bill of Rights and of the Fourteenth Amendment never intended for the Second Amendment to apply only to some Americans in certain places. Gun owners across the country are grateful for the support that so many members of Congress are lending to this crucial effort to ensure that the Second Amendment applies to states, not just federal enclaves,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “I would especially like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of former United States Solicitor General Paul Clement in authoring this historic amicus brief, as well as U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and Jon Tester (D-MT), and Congressmen Mike Ross (D-AR) and Mark Souder (R-IN) for their work on this important effort. This brief boasts the most signers of a congressional amicus brief in the history of the Supreme Court — breaking the record set just last year in the Heller case.”

In September, the Court agreed to consider the McDonald case, on appeal from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. That court incorrectly claimed that prior Supreme Court precedent prevented it from holding in favor of incorporation of the Second Amendment. The NRA believes the Seventh Circuit should have followed the lead of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision in Nordyke v. King, which found that Supreme Court precedent does not prevent the Second Amendment from applying to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause. As a party in McDonald, the NRA is actively involved in this case and believes the NRA brief makes a clear and strong case in favor of incorporation of the Second Amendment. Cox concluded, “It is our sincere hope that the Supreme Court will follow the Constitution’s true meaning and hold that the Second Amendment applies to all law-abiding Americans.”

Chicago has had a handgun ban and other restrictive gun laws in place for 27 years. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the McDonald case in February 2010.

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military.

Friends of Sharron Angle

Angle Hosted at Chicago Fundraiser

Chicago, IL – Former Nevada State Assemblywoman Sharron Angle (R-NV), appeared yesterday on local conservative talk radio in Chicago before attending a fundraiser at the American Legion Hall in West Chicago thrown by heartland supporters wanting to replace Harry Reid (D-NV) with a qualified conservative. The enthusiastic crowd included Representative Mike Fortner (R-IL).

“Harry Reid might represent Nevada, but as Majority Leader his liberal agenda gravely affects all Americans regardless of residency. America’s solvency rests on replacing Harry Reid and liberals like him with conservatives we can trust,” answered Chicago community activist Jeanette Ward when asked about her interest in monitoring a race several states away.

Ward strategizes that replacing Reid with a candidate like Angle would send shock waves to other politicians in D.C. that their current liberal agenda is unwelcomed. “You’re aware that here in Illinois we are stuck with our own liberal Senator who enjoys spending his days carrying water for Harry Reid,” said Ward in an obvious reference to Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL). “We’re putting him on notice starting today by showing an interest in replacing his boss with a conservative like Sharron Angle from Nevada.”

Ward did mention that she had become fatigued by the excessive number of other candidates from Nevada she had to filter through. “I’ve observed these other candidates crawling out the woodwork claiming conservative principals, but their spotty records or inexperience is something I refuse to support – – Nobody wants to see Harry Reid replaced with another Harry Reid.”

Ward especially cautioned that a higher office such as the U.S. Senate posed as an unlikely commencement for an untested candidate dreaming of becoming a first-time politician. “Responsible parents would never hand over the car keys to a toddler. Give them training wheels first, and monitor them to make sure they are responsible enough to have higher trust extended to them. We’ve all been burned before by candidates who talk conservative but vote liberal. Sharron Angle’s candidacy to unseat Harry Reid is of importance to us all because she has a verifiable longstanding conservative record that supporters can trust.”

Angle leaves Chicago to attend other scheduled events back east for the remainder of the week, with plans to return to Las Vegas on Friday.
