TARKANIAN CRITICIZES HARRY REID’S AND SENATE’S OPPOSITION TO DEMINT AMENDMENT TO PROTECT ACCESS TO PUBLIC LAND IN NEVADA.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Danny Tarkanian released the following statement on Harry Reid’s vote against an amendment put forth by Senator Jim DeMint (SC) aimed at protecting access to over ten million acres of public land in nine western states, including Nevada.

“Earlier this month, it surfaced from the Department of Interior that President Obama planned to reach into the archives of Executive authority and use the controversial Antiquities Act to declare fourteen sites, with more than ten million acres in nine western states, national monuments. The land targeted by the act is all either prime ranching, mining or energy rich land, and many members of Congress, including Sen. DeMint and the Congressional Western Caucus, have denounced the President’s plan as a backdoor maneuver to block energy development where agency regulation has failed.

“Today’s amendment by Sen DeMint would have stopped the President from seizing the land. Without the amendment, the President will now be free to eliminate access to millions of acres of public land, bypassing the legislative process and effectively cutting state and local governments out of the decision making process.

“Tonight was yet another reminder of how Harry Reid has failed to put the interests of Nevada first. This land-grab tactic is another attempt on the part of President Obama, with Harry Reid’s acquiescence in the Senate, to appease left-wing environmental activists and stifle productive public land use in Nevada.

“I am disappointed that Sen. DeMint’s amendment failed. Nevadans shouldn’t have to rely on South Carolina’s Senator to protect their interests and values.”

NY Town Leaders Call for EMP Threat Readiness

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK ASSOCIATION OF TOWNS CALLS FOR EMP READINESS
Municipal leaders call for action to prepare for natural and manmade threats to critical infrastructure.

(BUFFALO, NY) – EMPact America, the nation’s leading advocate for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) catastrophe preparedness, congratulates the New York Association of Towns for its leadership in readying the state’s citizens, government and infrastructure for an EMP event. The state-wide Association of Towns passed a unanimous resolution on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, calling for increased preparation to protect against an EMP event. The Association of Towns is made up of over 900 towns across New York State.

An Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) is a high-intensity burst of electromagnetic energy. An EMP event can be caused by a natural event like a severe solar storm or a manmade event like a high-altitude nuclear burst. National experts have concluded that a natural or manmade EMP event could be long-lasting, continent-wide and cripple the US critical electricity-dependent infrastructure, which is highly vulnerable and largely unprotected.

“The New York Association of Towns has taken an important step in preparing our state for a highly likely occurrence of an EMP catastrophe,” said EMPact America President Dr. Peter Pry. “We applaud the Association’s concern for our society and its call for immediate and resolute action.”

EMP is “a very important topic,” said Town of Tonawanda Supervisor Anthony F. Caruana. It was “very well received and caught the attention of our local government officials, who now understand the significance that EMP can have on their communities unless something is done now.”

With American society now completely reliant on electricity and electronic controls at all levels of life, the cascading effects of a wide-spread and long-term outage would be severe. Of particular concern would be the permanent destruction of large electrical transformers by EMP. They are critical to our ability to deliver power, we have precious few spares, there are long lead times and they are not made in the United States. Currently, the U.S. can replace less than 1% of its critical transformers, each of which take at least 18 months to produce by the manufactures in Germany and South Korea.

“I’m glad that New York State towns are out in front of this issue, and the economic impact it can cause in our area,” said Town of Elma Supervisor Michael P. Nolan. “With Federal stimulus dollars available, this is an opportunity for New York to update its aging electrical grid and vulnerable elements of its infrastructure.”

The Association of Towns asked the New York State Legislature to study EMP and develop a protection plan, called upon state power authorities and companies to take immediate action, and requested the New York State Congressional Delegation work to reestablish the national EMP Commission.

“This resolution raises awareness of EMP as one of the single most catastrophic and realistic threats to Americans,” said Town of Brant Supervisor Leonard K. Pero. “It will be the catalyst for state legislators to create a committee to act and for Washington to re-establish the EMP Commission as soon as possible.”

RightBias Idiot Awards – 02/26/10

By: Nancy Morgan
Right Bias

TOP IDIOTS OF THE WEEK:

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D–CA) earns our Top Idiot of the Week award. He is caught laughing out loud when a staff member from Ari David For Congress suggests that they start off their SEIU meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.

A teacher in Winnipeg also makes this week’s Top Idiot list. At a high-school pep rally, she decided to express her inner slut. The ensuing lap dance was outrageous enough that she was told not to report back to work. She may be out of a job but she has garnered her fifteen minutes of fame, with the video of her lap dance becoming an internet hit. Ah, trade-offs.

Speaking of fifteen minutes of fame: A woman who calls herself Angie the Atheist is desperately seeking her own fifteen minutes of fame. She decided to live-blog her drug-induced abortion. She posted updates on Twitter as she killed her own fetus.

The number of outright lies issuing forth from our public servants hit fever pitch last week. Since these whoppers were virtually unchallenged by the old media, RightBias.com has been forced to ad yet another category to our Top Idiots of the Week Awards.

BIGGEST WHOPPER OF THE WEEK:

President Obama takes top honors, as he stated to a crowd of CEO’s that he was not a socialist. Adding insult to insult, he also stated “I am a firm believer in the free market.” Since his actions say the opposite, we can only conclude that the left has, once again, redefined the offending labels.

RUNNER-UP:

The Environmental Protection Agency, responding to complaints about its December findings about the threat of greenhouse gases, issued a statement Friday saying that the “science is settled.” Since the old media has declined to report on the fact that the science behind global warming claims has been totally corrupted, we can only suggest that the EPA start tuning in to Fox for the straight poop.

HONORABLE MENTION:

In the midst of record snow fall all over the U.S. and a recent admission from global warming advocate Phil Jones that there has been no warming since 1995, Father Earth, Al Gore, is sticking to his guns. “The climate crisis is worse than we thought,” Gore said with a straight face. Yawn…

A top Obama administration scientist on Monday struck back at climate skeptics who claim that record snowstorms this winter have undercut evidence of global warming. “Weather is not climate,” he informed the nation. Inquiring minds want to know: Since when?

Obama make our list yet again. He hailed Wednesday’s one-year-old economic stimulus law as ‘an accomplishment that staved off another Great Depression and kept up to 2 million people on the job.’ Right….

MOST IDIOTIC STATEMENT:

One of my favorite actors takes top honors this week. Jeff Bridges stated, “Barack Obama is my champion; I am rooting for him – he said we can eradicate childhood hunger by 2015.” That Bridges can believe Obama’s utopian promises says more about Bridges than about Obama. Sigh.

MOST IDIOTIC LAWSUITS:

The family of Rachel Corrie is suing the Israeli Defense Ministry for the death of their daughter 7 years ago. Remember Rachel? She’s the useful idiot that stood right in the path of an Israeli bulldozer and got, well, bulldozed. Here’s a thought: How about Rachel’s family be held accountable for never teaching their daughter that if one stands in front of a moving bulldozer, one will be bulldozed. Duh.

Sluggerrr the Lion — the mascot for the Kansas City Royals — is accused of poking a fan’s eye out with a steaming hot wiener during a Major League Baseball game last year … and now the team is being sued over it. Hey, a weiner is better than a sharp stick.

So many idiots, so little space.
Till next week, keep smiling,

Nancy Morgan
