A ‘Republican’ (a member of what Americans call the Republican Party) favors a form of government referred to as a republic in which elected officials represent the people in governing the nation. It is the most orderly form of government. ‘Republicanism’ also means ‘self government.’ American Republicans also are known as conservatives and are on the political ‘right’ and support the free market or capitalist economic platform.
