Day of Rage 9/17/11 – Occupy Wall Street 9/17/11: A Primer

Gulag Bound
By: Maggie Thornton

Maggie’s Notebook, 9/14

The Day of Rage will occupy Wall Street on September 17, 2011 – known also as Occupy Wall Street, as well.  While much of what follows I find amusing (and appalling) I don’t disagree with their goals if they are fairly and honestly stated, but I do disagree with the methodology. There is a new awakening to the problems of the Federal Reserve and beyond, and we certainly need to do something about, but a vote at the polls will do far more than this hippy campout.

See an UPDATE here, 9-15-11, making the ties to George Soros, and a quote attributed to Wade Rathke, the co-founder of ACORN and the SEIU.

So I will be interested to see how long the Occupation lasts, a few days or many more, and will want to know if anyone of the Occupiers has worked recently, and I’ll be really disappointed if said Occupiers don’t keep the streets neat and tidy.

Are they anarchists? I don’t know. Will there be violence, I don’t know, but bet there will be. Are there any Marxists or revolutionary Communists in the bunch? Surely. Who else would plan to ‘Occupy’  and name the event ‘Day of Rage,’ after the 1969 Days of Rage? Will terrorists Bill Ayers and wife, Bernardine Dorn bring the subversive passion of the Weather Underground to the event? No surprise if they do. Think Ayers is proud the plan to Occupy is named after the book he spawned (Days of Rage). Oh yeah! Does George Soros have anything to do with this? SEIU? For sure every SEIU worker will be there, and be paid for the time.

Here’s the mission:

Together we can build assemblies of people along every street of lower Manhattan from Wall Street to Washington Heights; and on every street in every town in every state.

US Day of Rage is fighting a war for the soul of our nation, its people. Stand and be counted at 2:00 PM EST on any public sidewalk across America. Post your pictures on Twitter or YouTube with the hashtag #usdor or tag US Day of Rage on Facebook.

As Americans we may bang our head on other matters, but on this we surely agree. In a democracy: progressives; unions; conservatives; tea party; and unaffiliated Americans can govern and work things out. In a kleptocracy, controlled by the banksters, we cannot. We must stop their influence, their motives, and their tricks, from continuing to destroy our democratic republic, and together we can do it.

US Day of Rage (usdayofrage.org) demands that money be removed from the buying of politicians who feed the Wall Street beast. We demand that the resources of our nation no longer be used to coddle and benefit banksters and their minions. We demand that the US Government diligently reign in the parasitic destruction wreaked by Wall Street. We demand that our nation no longer be held hostage to ‘too big to fail’ banks. We demand that solutions be found that stop the Federal Reserve from stealing our future.

There is training for non-violent civil disobedience, and an Art and Culture meeting tomorrow. Cyclists supporting the Occupation are meeting for “All-Night Mass” at “Tompkins Square Park in Manhattan (by the big tree).”

The good news is, during the Day of Rage we are assured that sleeping on the streets as a part of a ‘symbolic expression’ is allowed on public sidewalks. Contrary to previous plans, the Raged CANNOT pitch a tent. If your group of Occupiers is larger than 20, you need a permit. If you need some legal expertise to figure out what you can do to disrupt Wall Street and Manhattan in general, you might find it here.

You are encouraged to create a ‘People’s Assembly’ with other Occupiers, once you find your spot on the block. NOTE: Days of Rage wants a ‘horizontal organization’ (actually they spell it ‘organisation’ – the European way). A ‘horizontal organization’ does not mean that you lie on the sidewalk, but rather that you have no boss within the assembly. No one is better than you within your Assembly. You don’t have to obey anyone.

All Occupiers within the ‘People’s Assembly,’ should ask themselves: What do we need? and How can we get it? That should just about do it.

Find a map of bathrooms in the City here.  Don’t forget your camera, but give it to another Occupier if you are taken to jail. If you need a crash pad while in the city Occupying, there is a place you can sign up on their website. Calling Michael Moore: your services are needed for a documentary of this historical event.

If you are concerned about going to jail, or are hoping to go to jail, the video below provides guidance. The central issue of going to jail is “solidarity.” Find supporters. Find a ‘police liason,’ and civilian monitors (legal observers) wearing orange or green hats to put police on notice that they are being watched. The Observer-Occupiers might also carry a clipboard.

If you do go to jail, it is “really, really important” to have someone waiting outside the jail when you are released to give you “a hug.” Be aware that you may not have toilet paper, and be aware also that you will need warm clothing while in your cell.

If you long to be free, the Occupiers have a theme song. Hear it/see it in the second video below in a remake of Marlo Thomas’ 1974 Free To Be…You and Me.

If you use Twitter, get all the details at #occupywallstreet, #sept17, #HOA, #WhyWeOccupy and the hashtag for US Days of Rage is #USDOR. Right this minute I see tweets declaring the “revolution” only 3 days away. Twitter is all-a-twitter.

Similar events to Occupy something, somewhere are planned on September 17th for Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle and Portland, and where ever you are, your sidewalk will do as well. Please make a sign.

More excitement, besides the prospect of going to jail, is confirmation that our Nation is on ‘high alert,’ due to the The Day of Rage.

This week we received credible intel that the federal government sent an email to law enforcement agents across the nation notifying them several days ago that our country was on high alert for #Sept17 #occupywallstreet, and mentioning US Day of Rage #usdor.

The federal government erroneously considers the organizers of US Day of Rage as “likely high level Anonymous”, (which I am now, on the advice of family members and friends printing on all my business cards this Halloween).

The email goes on to say that on September 17, law enforcement agents plan to infiltrate the crowd, to take pictures of participants, and to collect information about the organizers of US Day of Rage and #sept17 in order to “classify” them.

So ‘People’s Assemblies’ should be on the watch for ‘infiltrators’ from the FBI or CIA or Homeland SecurityThey will want you to talk, and then your names can be given to AttackWatch. The administration may or may not give you a medal, or an autographed photo of The Won.

‘US Day of Rage & Occupy Wall Street’: ACORN, SEIU, Robin Hood Tax, New Constitution & George Soros

Gulag Bound
By: Maggie Thornton

Maggie’s Notebook, 9/15

In an article yesterday about this weekend’s U.S. Day of Rage or Occupy Wall Street, I asked several questions including, is George Soros involved and what is this about? The website says this is all about banking and the financial forces that shape our country, but is there more? Seems there is. Is George Soros behind this protest? I have some new information on that. I’m reading everywhere on the Internet that Wade Rathke, co-founder of ACORN and SEIU,  announced the Day of Rage on March 25, 2011. I don’t doubt that is true, but haven’t been able to find anything other than someone else quote him – nothing linking to the actual quote. The source for the information seems to come from Canada FreePress.

Gulag Bound has connected George Soros to U.S. Day of Rage through The Ruckus Society on the U.S. Day of Rage website. The Ruckus Society receives funding from the Tides Foundation and George Soros’ Open Society Institute provides grants to Tides, including a mere $4.2 Million in 2008, the last year figures are available. Several paragraphs down you’ll find more on the hopes for a Robin Hood tax, and rewriting our U.S. Constitution, among other little Marxist dreams, including violence since “fiscal reform” probably won’t do the job.

UPDATE 9-15-11 –  Video of a Test Run on the streets of Manhattan

Occupy Wall Street, planned for September 17th, has posted a video of a test run on September 1st. They planned to spend the night on Wall Street. They announce a Second Revolution and chant, “Wall Street is all streets.” Exhilerating! You’ll see police interaction, and the “revolutionaries” are telling police the Constitution of the United States gives them the right to sleep on the sidewalks. Federal law transcends state law, don’t you know. Doesn’t it always these days? One says he wants to change the system, and students should not have to pay back school loans. Unbelievably, the policeman says, ” I agree with you.” The police say the “gathering” is not acceptable, and the hippie tells the Cop he is blocking the sidewalk. Nine were arrested and released that same night, costing taxpayers plenty (do these people pay taxes – do any of them have a job?).

Thanks to Judy W. for the tip! Read more on the connections to Occupy Wall Street (U.S. Day of Rage) here and some background here.

Occupy Wall Street Test Run (video)

U.S. Day of Rage – Occupy Wall Street, continued

Here is more from Gulag Bound (including a Van Jones connection):

The other organization’s they show is warresisters.org for the War Resister’s League.  That’s not surprising, MegaloMarxism has been behind peaceniks for a long, long time in America — just like they are behind their anarchists and Islamists.  They don’t want “bastion of freedom” America to be either free or a bastion.  See Gulag Bound’s category, “Peace Movement Manipulation,” for many articles primarily or secondarily about that.

George Soros, bankster agent of neo-Marxist mayhem, revolution, and NWO perestroika

So we have confirmation of likely George Soros connections. Surely there is enough of the $4.2 Million for the U.S. Day of Rage, and no doubt more millions have flowed in the years since 2008.

Just so you know, organization-wide, the U.S. Days of Rage (Occupy Wall Street ) agenda is to demand that money be removed from politics, that the U.S. see to it, that in the future, no bank is too big to fail, and to demand that the Federal Reserve no longer be able to “steal our future.” So what will the “occupiers” do about that on standing around on sidewalks?

This will be a loosely knit gathering of sidewalk groups. The idea is to find your spot on a block somewhere, and then to join with others to form a group, called a People’s Assembly. The group should not have a leader, as everyone is equal, but they are directed to ask two questions: What do we want, and how do we get it? Since there is already an agenda laying out what they want, there must be more. And there is as you’ll see below, but more recent communications are saying they must, must, must come to a consensus and have one single demand for Barack Obama, and if they can’t…read it below.

WorldNetDaily’s Aaron Klein happened upon a tweet (don’t you love Twitter!), from the account of Alice Khatib, who identifies as being located in Geneva, Switzerland. That led to the website Take the Square where Khatib posted a “Message from The General Assembly of New York City.”

Here are some of her thoughts:

Some of us think that the imposition of a Robin Hood Tax on all financial transactions, tax increases on capital gains, and the reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act are three essential measures to reestablish a minimum of fiscal sanity in the United States and abroad. [Read about the Glass-Steagall act here]

Some of us think that true autonomy and independence cannot be achieved through fiscal reform.

Some of us believe that we ought to reboot the system, rewrite the constitution, recuse a system of government employed by the rich for the rich.

Many of us think that what truly matters at this stage is to create a shared framework which may enable everyone to speak out, be heard, co-evolve and advance with others. If you look through this framework you may not see one defined picture. If you walk through it you will be amazed at the strange world on the other side. It is time to take back our lives. We ask you to join us now in New York City or to start your own General Assembly in your own town.

In solidarity and struggle,

The General Assembly of New York City

The Occupiers are hoping for 20,000 in Lower Manhattan, for what is billed a ‘Tahir moment,’ emulating the ‘freedom fighters’ in Cairo who have received no freedom. They are hoping for tents and kitchens to be a part of the sidewalk landscape. “Peaceful barricades” are also planned.

The following is a snippet from Adbusters, addressed to “patriots, rabble-rousers, revolutionaries:”

What if, try as we might, we just can’t come up with only one demand? Well, then maybe we can decide together on an END THE MONIED CORRUPTION OF AMERICA MANIFESTO – a rousing compendium of our most urgent demands. And on the seventh day of our occupation we publicly deliver our manifesto to the White House and to the American media, letting Obama know that we won’t leave Wall Street until he responds.

If thousands of us hang in there day after day, week after week, we may be able to create a spectacular revolutionary experience that fires up the public imagination and eventually maneuvers Obama into doing something that he has so far not had the guts to do: agree to a bold, decisive stroke against the financial corruption of America. Now that would get the American people behind us and cheering us on from coast to coast.

If we can achieve that, the sky will be the limit … further demands will follow and a new America will be born.

On Saturday, our Tahrir moment begins … strength, courage, nonviolence!

This weekend, if things go right for U.S. Day of Rage (or is it days) and Occupy Wall Street, there will be people hanging out in city squares and financial capitals across the globe. Read more information about the training going on in NYC to ready for this weekend, including how to behave in jail, and where to find a bathroom. All this is scheduled for September 17th.

Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Socialist Party

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

Martin Luther King, Jr. made his famous “I have a dream” speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which took place on August 28, 1963. It culminated in a gathering at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

According to Boston Democratic Socialists of America publication Yankee Radical, September/October 2010 page 3, the Socialist Party USA played a major, but covert, role in Martin Luther King’s greatest moment of glory.

Several Socialist Party members played key roles in organizing the march, including A. Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin, Tom Kahn, Rachelle Horowitz and Norm Hill.

King himself was in the Socialist Party in Boston during his student days in the early 1950s, according to then Socialist Party member, now D.S.A. leader, Bogdan Denitch.

If anything, one aspect of the 1963 rally, deliberately down-played at the time for fear of red-baiting, was the influence of members of the Socialist Party, DSA’s major predecessor organization, in both organizing the event and its politics. This began with A. Philip Randolph, who issued the call for the March and MC’d it, his longtime lieutenant Bayard Rustin, and his key assistants who ran the March organizing office in NY—Tom Kahn, Rachelle Horowitz, Norm Hill and others, SPers all. (According to Honorary DSA Chair Bogdan Denitch, who was in a position to know, Martin Luther King himself was briefly in the Socialist Party in the early 1950s while attending Boston University).

In 2000, Denitch wrote in the Democratic Left Spring/Summer issue:

If I have one fault with Maurice’s (Maurice Isserman‘s biography of Michael Harrington) excellent book, it is the underestimation–which we may have helped ourselves–of the socialist role around Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement, and in some unions. Because our publicly acknowledged socialist presence would have been the kiss of political death, the basis on which many civil rights activists were often red-baited, our very credible activism as hard-working, key behind the scenes players (with Bayard,) who got things done—is not well known. Mike was the closest we had to a ‘respectable’ public face with oratorical skills, so he got a piece of the credit, but the honorable activity of socialists did a great deal of good, should make DSAers proud of their historical roots, and might well be emulated today.

Very few people today are aware of the large communist and socialist influence that surrounded Martin Luther King.

Interestingly, Martin Luther King’s most prominent biographer, David Garrow, was himself a long time member of Democratic Socialists of America.

It was Harry Reid who Proposed the Committee of Twelve

By: Trevor Loudon
New Zeal

From Michael Zak at Grand Old Partisan:

Just over two months from now, six Senators and six Representatives — evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats — are to recommend a $1.5 trillion deficit reduction package that Congress will have to vote on without amendments.

I had trouble believing that a Republican would have come up with the idea of concentrating such vast legislative powers in the hands of just twelve people. Who, precisely which Member of Congress, first proposed this Committee of Twelve? A top Hill staffer just answered that question for me.

It was Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) who first proposed setting up the Committee of Twelve.

The Democrats have thought several steps ahead of the Republicans with their Committee of Twelve. hey’ll use this Super Committee to create a huge crisis — for President Obama to resolve. They hope to blame the GOP for an impasse of their own making.

Republicans may assume that the role of the Joint Committee will be limited and subordinate to Congress as a whole, but Democrats are planning otherwise. In her press conference yesterday, Nancy Pelosi gave a glimpse of the horrors to come:

“[President Obama’s $447 billion job] bill is paid for. How it will ultimately be paid for will be up to the Table of 12.” That’s right, the Democrat leadership says that this decision will be up to just twelve people. not the entire Congress. Democrats intend to use the Committee to bypass Congress, just as Obama has said many times that he would like to do.

The Democrats play hardball, all the time.

A Great, Entertaining and Refreshing Read

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton

Buy at Amazon.com

I love this book. It is written in a bracing, common man sort of narrative. The book is funny and entertaining. I’ve always been a sucker for a Navy man and dogs – especially German Shepherds. Mark Butterworth’s book, A Man with Three Great German Shepherds (and 1,000 Troy Ounces of Gold) was a wonderful read and a joy to pass on to my husband for his reading pleasure as well.

The book centers around Chief Warrant Officer Dan Martin. Retired, Dan turns back to faith to heal his life as well as seeking out and adopting three German Shepherds who will fill his life with a love and loyalty that only dogs can give. Martin believes in discipline and knows that there is only right and wrong. There is no gray area in between. He longs for a simpler time, a more wholesome time. Don’t we all?

Martin’s life has seen divorce and loneliness. Detachment is a serious possibility until he finds faith in the Catholic Church. His Shepherds also fill the loneliness void. And then there is his gold. He collects gold and is obsessive concerning it. But hey, I take that as a survival trait. Dan collects gold one coin at a time over the years and puts it away. So much so, that he accumulates a great wealth of it.

You’ll learn of Dan’s adventures – the book is summarized wonderfully at Amazon.com:

A Man with Three Great German Shepherds (and 1000 troy ounces of gold) is a comic novel about a retired, Navy Warrant Officer, Dan Martin, and three endearing German Shepherds he’s rescued and trained in Sacramento, California. After saving the life of his Catholic priest from a knife wielding lunatic, Dan’s dogs become local celebrities, attracting national attention when they appear with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. It’s fame and fortune for Dan (he hopes) until the IRS makes him a target of investigation since he’s a gold bug with his life savings in bullion, and for having worked in his retirement under the table (more gold) for a millionaire contractor who’s been cheating on his taxes for decades. Dan heads for northern Idaho in the hope that his employer can use leverage, money, and contacts to get the government off their backs, bringing the story to a stirring climax. *** A Man with Three Great German Shepherds will appeal to dog lovers through the tale of the adoption of the dogs and the heroism of the oldest, Lucy. People who have owned or known German Shepherds will enjoy the affectionate and vivid descriptions of their personalities, their habits and problems, their beauty, the events of their lives and affect on others throughout the story. And there’s Dan’s story, his initial problems with retirement, his attempt to win over his estranged children, his adoption of the dogs and their training, his desire to show them off and find some distinction in the world, and then his problems with having deceived the government and consequences which lead to a disturbing conclusion. There is brio in the narrative as Dan mordantly or quizzically observes the world around him. People may start off reading a dog story and find themselves enriched by one man’s adventure toward greater humility catalyzed by his three beautiful, obedient, and faithful animals. A Man with Three Great German Shepherds is a book that is not only likely to become popular, but remain popular (including internationally) for a long time due to its accurate portrayal of the regal nobility of the German Shepherd breed, its well known and beloved qualities; and because Dan Martin, Everyman, plays on many human chords. A book in part like Rescuing Sprite, My Dog, Tulip, Marley and Me, and Old Yeller.

I truly recommend this book. For a little while, this book lifted me out of politics and the sadness of late, and transported me into a wonderful story. Thank you Mark – I hope you will write many more.
