Blasted Fools

Laborers by Day – Murderers by Night. Politicos tell us that illegal immigrants are the future of our country. What kind of a future is this?

You’ll pardon me if I’m so angry I can scarcely see straight. We have predators running loose in this country and the vermin in Congress don’t care about you or me, just satisfying the special interests and their insatiable appetite for cheap labor. Louise Sollowin is the latest victim – not the only victim, just the latest.

This story is not fresh off the printer – the news report has been re-blogged since July 24th. I don’t think it has had nearly enough circulation though, and I want to tie this into a solution, while stiffening your resolve to oppose the amnesty bunch in Congress at every move.

I had personal feelings when I saw this story. I’ll tell you why, in a moment. Here are the basic details of the atrocity as reported by the Associated Press:

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a 93-year-old Omaha woman has died after being beaten and raped.

Omaha police say Louise Sollowin died Wednesday, three days after the attack in her home. According to a police report, an officer who was sent to check on Sollowin found her covered in blood in a bedroom around 9 a.m. Sunday. The officer reported that 19-year-old Sergio Martinez-Perez was naked and passed out on top of the woman.

Prosecutors say Martinez-Perez acknowledged assaulting and raping Sollowin, saying he was mad at women after a night of drinking.

When I saw that a 93 year old Grandmother spent the last hour or so of her life in a maelstrom of physical torment, fear and agony, I thought of my own mother – soon to turn 92, possibly being a victim of an attack like that inflicted on Mrs. Sollowin – so inhuman, it defies comprehension. Investigators surveying the crime scene reported Mrs. Sollowin’s blood splattered on the walls and even on the ceiling! I feel my heart racing when I reflect on this.

From the Omaha World Herald:

When Louise Sollowin died, she took a library’s worth of neighborhood knowledge with her.

The 93-year-old was a prominent figure in Omaha’s Little Italy community. For 50 years, she fired up the oven at Orsi’s Italian Bakery. She attended Mass at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. She sewed while watching gaggles of neighborhood children play with her own.

“She was a very lovely lady,” longtime resident Nancy Calinger, 71, said. “She was a pillar in our neighborhood and a library, as well, because of her history.” Sollowin was beaten and raped Sunday in her bed by an intruder. He entered her home at 1921 S. 10th St. through an unlocked door. She died Wednesday at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Joe Sollowin, Louise’s son, said he was shocked to hear of his mother’s death. “Her body was so completely broken up,” He said he had figured that his mother would live forever because she was one of the few people in the family who never touched alcohol or cigarettes. She worked at the bakery until about 10 years ago, when her weakening eyesight forced her to retire.

“My mother was a saint,” Sollowin said. “This is beyond words. … It’s horrendous.” “To single out a 93 year old woman and beat her to a pulp and kill her and rape her, it disgusts me. How anyone could do this. I want to see him on the other side of the glass when they pull the lever down. That’s what I want to see,” Sollowin said.

The atrocity has left people in the community struggling with questions: How could something like this happen? Why Sollowin? And could it happen again? “To kill her the way that man did,” Calinger said, her voice cracking. “Damn him.”

Illegals supposedly ‘deserve’ citizenship. Did Louise deserve what happened to her?

Perez dealt the physical assault on Louise, but he had enablers – the Obama Administration, Sanctuary Cities typically governed by ‘progressives’, by Republicans and Democrats in Congress, who won’t make eVerify mandatory for all employers, or require Homeland Security to implement serious as a heart attack, muscular border security.

And to add to the list, hypocrites like my Brother-in-law, that make noises about illegal immigration, but hire illegal day laborers. Why do they hire them? Simple – the hypocrites hire them because they are cheap and greedy and want you to subsidize their cheap labor with higher taxes, while at the same time exposing you to the menace of imported crime. My Brother-in-law is a landlord and hires illegals to do repair work (if it can be called such), on his rental properties. Sergio Martinez-Perez, may have even been employed by him at one time or another.

It’s disgusting. I hope no one reading this is hiring labor off the street and not confirming their legal status or employing them at your place of business. If you are, you need a check up from the neck up to review your defective ethics. You’d also better make sure these pick-up laborers don’t know where you live! Here’s Louise Sollowin’s obituary:

If you wish, you can sign the memorial guest book for Louise’s family here.

I’m by no means done with this subject. I’m going to be hammering on the travesty of the illegal alien crime epidemic in upcoming posts. We have a core population of human toxic waste, sitting in our prisons, soon to be released into the midst of unsuspecting general society and a network of agents of the Sinaloa and Zetas Mexican drug cartels, committing crimes on their behalf. All while this is going on, we have Paul Ryan promising that legalization will be voted on in Congress this coming October! We have Senator Menendez promising illegals and their advocates that all that is necessary to enact amnesty is to get ANY immigration bill out of the House and into conference with the Senate!

But for now, there is something you can do. Ask the management of the restaurant, hotel, lawn maintenance company and any number of other businesses you spend money with, if they are screening their new hires and employees with EVerify. If the answer is no – ask why not. EVerify is 96 percent accurate now, and false positives for bonafide citizens can be remedied easily by producing a variety of documents that confirm legal status. There is no excuse not to use it. They don’t have to wait for Congress to require it.

Louise Sollowin’s family, yours and mine, deserve nothing less.

Those Talks

Arlene from Israel

Before I write about “those talks,” I want to return to the matter of the Palestinian Arab prisoner release approved by the Cabinet yesterday at the strong-arm prodding of Prime Minister Netanyahu.

This entire incident signals for me a time for activism. Those of us who care deeply about this issue must not be silent. From time to time I’ve asked my readers to participate in activism by way of sending messages to members of our government. And I’m asking it here, more extensively than I ever have before.

If you care, truly care. If you are alarmed. And angry. And saddened. Please, work with me here so that our voices can begin to be heard.

There are different groups of people within the Israeli gov’t or closely associated with it who need to hear from us now. Those who supported the release have to know:

[] That you think it should never have happened and feel great anger/disgust/disappointment (you pick the word) that it did. Add a brief sentence or two if you wish about why it shouldn’t have happened: encourages terrorism, shows Israeli weakness, subverts justice, wounds bereaved families, etc. etc.

[] That you will not be quiet about this. The nation of Israel requires more courageous or wiser leadership than what they have provided.

[] That you will watch the positions they take in the future, and if you are Israeli, let them know that this will affect how you vote.

This message, in your own words, said politely and briefly, but strongly, should go to:

Prime Minister Netanyahu, who requires a message of grievous disappointment. See below at the bottom of this post an article about what he said regarding releasing prisoners just five years ago. :

Fax: 02-670-5369 (From the US: 011-972-2-670-5369)

E-mail: [email protected] and also [email protected] (underscore after pm) use both addresses.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon — Likud, who should be told that people were disappointed in him because he knows better:

E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 02-675-3256

Gideon Sa’ar, and Yuval Steinitz — both of Likud, who might have been expected to know better:

E-mail: [email protected] Fax 02-649-6578
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6579

Yitzhak Aharonovitch and Sofa Landver — both of Yisrael Beitenu:

E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6188
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6744

Yair Lapid, Yael German, Yaakov Peri, and Shai Piron — all of Yesh Atid:

E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 02-640-8422
E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 02-640-8433

Shai Piron almost voted against and you might note this and encourage him to be courageous next time.

Those who opposed the release of prisoners must be praised and encouraged. They need to hear that many are behind them and that they are supported and appreciated. Tell them that the future of the nation of Israel depends upon courageous leadership such as they demonstrated:

Yisrael Katz and Gilad Erdan — both of Likud. Katz in particular is tough.

E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6525
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-675-3982

Naftali Bennett, Uri Ariel and Uri Orbach — all of Habayit Hayehudi. Much rests with Bennett and how he leads his party; he needs to understand that there are people looking to him for leadership. Uri Ariel is also tough.

E-mail: [email protected] Phone 02-640-8430
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-675-3738
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-640-8167

Uzi Landau and Yair Shamir — both of Yisrael Beitenu. Landau has a history of standing for what he believes is right. Shamir is the son of former premiere Yitzhak Shamir z”l, who knew how to say “no.”

E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 02-675-3266
E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 02-640-8367

Those deputy ministers who are not in the Cabinet but fighting hard to protect Israeli rights. They need to know that they are appreciated and be encouraged to keep fighting. They represent Israel’s future leadership.

Danny Danon, Deputy Minister of Defense (Likud), Ze’ev Elkin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Likud), Tzipi Hotoveley, Deputy Minister of transportation (Likud), and Avi Worzman, Deputy Minister of Education (Habayit Hayehudi).

E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6044
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6438
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-640-8329
E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-640-8109

I would add here the name Yuli Edelstein (Likud), who as Speaker of the Knesset has considerable influence. He is a man of integrity who understands what is going on. Encourage his involvement:

E-mail: [email protected] Fax: 02-649-6193

I am well aware that you may look at this list and consider it daunting. IT IS NOT. You can write e-mail messages that apply to several persons, click on one address at a time, paste in the message and send to that person. (Of course, a handful of people require “special” messages.)

When you have a choice of fax or e-mail, fax is better. E-mail is better than trying to reach an aide on the phone.

HOWEVER YOU DO THIS, PLEASE DO IT IMMEDIATELY. The Knesset is about to recess for the summer.

As always, please share as broadly as possible — especially with Israeli citizens.

Accept my gratitude for your efforts and cooperation.

Now the news on the “talks” in a nutshell:

Invitations have been extended by Kerry to Netanyahu and Abbas by phone. I have this on exceedingly solid information (from an Arabic speaking Israeli Jew with PA contacts). There are news reports that the written invitations included reference to “the ’67 lines.” But there were no written invitations.

However, there was something else, called a “draft,” that reportedly was sent to the PA. And this apparently made reference to the ’67 lines. This is not something that Netanyahu has seen, I am told. A “draft” of what? It would seem a proposed outline for the talks, and it would seem that Kerry is playing to the PA here.

My source says that Kerry refused to put anything in writing to the PA promising that talks would proceed on the basis of the ’67 lines, but that he verbally promised to push this position at the table.

Remember that Indyk is going to be at the table as a US “mediator” and this is an exceedingly dangerous business.

Everyone is gathering in Washington tonight: Tzipi Livni and Yitzhak Molcho for Israel, Saeb Erekat for the PA. The news is saying talks have begun, but this is not quite so. These are the talks about the talks: Venue, schedule for meeting and other procedural matters must be put in place, as well as, most importantly, the issues to be addressed first. These discussions will end by Wednesday.

Already I am reading about disagreements regarding what needs to be discussed first, and expectations for the substantive talks to proceed meaningfully are quite low. Keep in mind, however, that Netanyahu said the prisoners will be released in stages as talks progress, so we might expect Abbas to drag things out until they are all released.

Please see the following articles:

Tzipi Hotovely who says the right wing will stop any attempts to give away Judea and Samaria:

Yoram Cohen, head of the Shin Bet, delivered a warning to the Cabinet about the dangers of releasing prisoners.

Israeli security will be diminished, “both in the immediate threat to the public, and because of the erosion in deterrence. The chance that the prisoners will go back to terrorism is relatively large.”

Five years ago, when Netanyahu was in the opposition, he said that releasing prisoners “reflects weakness and a loss of direction… The Likud government will replace Kadima’s weakness with an aggressive and uncompromising policy toward terror.”

Run that by us again?

The government misrepresented its intentions about releasing terrorists. Ofir Yunis, who spoke on behalf of Netanyahu, has written on his FB page:

“I want to apologize to the bereaved families who understood from my answer to a parliamentary query three months ago that there was no such intention [to release prisoners] I am sorry from the bottom of my heart that professional bodies who were involved in the negotiations misled me.”

It’s savta time again — four young grandchildren are due tomorrow morning. I will likely not post again for a couple of days. And please understand that I cannot respond to all of your many e-mails.

You Know the Karadzic Trial Isn’t Going Well When…

By: Julia Gorin
Republican Riot

…the tribunal resorts to repackaging a Hitler-era policy against Serbs, as a Serbian policy against Hitler’s side. An astonishing paragraph appeared in The New York Times and Al Jazeera. Astonishing even from the tried and true Balkans tall-tellers who for 20 years have been doing the bidding of their Islamic and other anti-Serb masters. Indeed, this one outdoes the countless other outsize accusations against the Serb side that we’ve grown numb to by now.

That’s because the phrase is so familiar, so often recited by those whose families perished as a result of it. “Kill a third, convert a third, expel a third.” That was the stated and executed policy of Hitler’s Croatian Ustashe regime. And so if the victims’ descendants were to see the day that the dreaded phrase would be mis-attributed and even inverted, it would momentarily transport them into another dimension, one where such unimaginable gall was possible. And to a surreality where such a glaring historical perversion and subversion could actually go — as all astonishing things Balkan-related do — unnoticed by the entire third dimension. (Except for a handful of us ‘cranks’ who pay attention to the ongoing dissolution of Germany’s eternal target, the Former Yugoslavia, successor state Serbia.)

That day arrived on July 12th, the traditional day for articles commemorating the July 11th, 1995 Srebrenica “genocide.” Written by Western journalists who feel an ongoing compulsion to mourn the deaths of Allah’s soldiers.

Nebojsa Malic recently emailed me the following note:

The ultimate result of Ustasha crimes being suppressed, denied and excused is that the SERBS get blamed for them:

From Al-Jazeera:

“[Appeals judges] said there was evidence from meetings attended by Karadzic in the early 1990s ‘that it had been decided that one third Muslims would be killed, one third would be converted to the Orthodox religion and a third will leave on their own’.”

From NY Times:

“For example, the judge said, evidence presented during the trial showed that ‘in meetings with Karadzic “it had been decided that one-third of Muslims would be killed, one-third would be converted to the Orthodox religion and a third will leave on their own” and thus all Muslims would disappear from Bosnia.’”

Not only is this a lie, it is a word-for-word plagiarism of Ustasha minister Mile Budak’s assertion from 1941, that the objective of [Croatian fuehrer Ante] Pavelic’s state was “kill a third, convert a third, and expel a third” of the Serbs.

[Even] Wikipedia indicates that Budak said this at a speech on July 22, 1941 in Gospić — where Serbs were brutally murdered in 1941 as well as 1991: “The movement of the Ustashi is based on faith. For the minorities we have three million bullets. We shall kill one part of the Serbs, expel the second part, and convert to Catholicism the third part of them.”

What both present-day “Bosniaks” and Croats did in NDH [Hitler-bestowed Independent State of Croatia], and the Albanians did in occupied portions of Serbia, during the 1940s, clearly qualifies as genocide under Lemkin’s definition. So does [1990s Croatian president Franjo] Tudjman’s plan to eradicate Serbs from territories he claimed as Croatia, or the KLA’s pogroms of Serbs in occupied Kosovo, or the ethnic cleansing of Muslim- and Croat-controlled portions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yet it’s the victims of these atrocities that are being accused of “genocide” — and even falsely framed using the language of their very executioners!

Just on the face of it, the blatant juxtaposition of Eastern Orthodoxy today being an aggressive, expansionist, proselytizing belief lends laughability to the projective phrase. Even someone who has never heard of the Balkans would think it a strange charge. At the same time, we do know of at least two far more aggressive religions — Islam and Catholicism. Both, coincidentally, historically anti-Orthodox. On that point, I close with the article that Malic wrote while trying to recover from glimpsing the devil’s face in the pages of Jazeera-Times:

The Big Lie (Gray Falcon, July 14)

Two months ago, I wrote about a horrifying feature of Yugoslavia II (1945-1991): the moral equivalence the regime of Josip Broz Tito imposed between the royalist Serbs and the Nazi Croats (both Catholic and Muslim).

The very real genocide (entirely fitting Lemkin’s definition) of Serbs in the “Independent State of Croatia” (NDH) was thus systematically minimized and suppressed, while the royalists (”Chetniks”) were accused of massacring Croat and Muslim civilians and open collaboration with the Nazis. The West participated in this cover-up, partly to prop Tito’s regime as a wedge in the Eastern Bloc, but also to protect the Roman Catholic Church, whose clergy backed the NDH.

Thanks to the suppression of truth about the NDH, Croat exiles were able to impose the myth of their own suffering at Communist hands…as a foundation of an independent Croatia proclaimed in 1991 (and forcibly “cleansed” of Serbs by 1995, with [the West’s] help). Part and parcel of this was a media operation in the early 1990s, by which the heirs of NDH were presented as victims, and their intended victims as executioners:

“…the Croatian and Bosnian past was marked by a real and cruel anti-semitism. Tens of thousands of Jews perished in Croatian camps. So there was every reason for intellectuals and Jewish organizations to be hostile towards the Croats and Bosnians. Our challenge was to reverse this attitude. And we succeeded masterfully.” (James Harff or Ruder Finn, 1993 interview)

This went beyond “reversing the attitude” of Jewish organizations; through the legerdemain of perception management, the very real Nazi connections of Croats, “Bosnians” (i.e. Bosnian Muslims) and later Albanians — during the 1999 attack on Serbia — transformed into the entirely fabricated “Serb fascism” in the Western public opinion…

What you see vs. what happens (source unknown)

Not only did this whitewash the Holocaust, it manufactured a cover for its continuation, this time under [Allied] sanction. The outcome of NATO’s “Deliberate Force” (1995) and “Allied Force” (1999) was arguably worse than of Hitler’s “Strafgericht” (1941): there are hardly any Serbs left in today’s Croatia, while those that survived 14 years of ethnic cleansing, pogroms, murder, rape and worse in Albanian-occupied Kosovo are now being forced to submit to KLA rule. Serbia itself has a quisling government far worse than the puppet regime of [WWII] General Nedić. Only in Bosnia did the Serbs manage to defend their rights, though the political assault on them shows no sign of abating.

Part of that assault have been the “war crimes” trials of the entire political and military leadership of the Bosnian Serbs. The ICTY, a “court” conjured by the [West] for the purpose of legitimizing its Balkans meddling, is insisting that the Bosnian Serbs committed “genocide” against the Muslims. Not in a general sense, mind you, but in seven or so municipalities, cherry-picked by the prosecutors. Both this, and classifying what happened in (or rather, outside) Srebrenica in 1995 as genocide are patently absurd.

The actually legitimate ICJ ruled in 2007 against the claim of “municipal genocide”. Last year, the ICTY “judges” dropped that particular charge against wartime Bosnian Serb president Radovan Karadžić. This week, an appeals panel led by ICTY president Theodor Meron, reinstated the charge — on July 11 no less, the date Muslims mark as the anniversary of “genocide” in Srebrenica.

Political symbolism? Marlise Simons (see here) of the New York Times thinks so:

“By scheduling the hearing on what has become a sacred date for Bosnian Muslims, the presiding judge, Theodor Meron, seemed to want to send a message to the war’s survivors as he recited an usually long and gruesome list of atrocities committed against Muslim civilians and prisoners of war.” (emphasis added)

However, among the “evidence” cited by Meron is the following:

“…there was evidence from meetings attended by Karadzic in the early 1990s ‘that it had been decided that one third Muslims would be killed, one third would be converted to the Orthodox religion and a third will leave on their own’.”

Lest you think this is Al-Jazeera editorializing, Simons cites the same passage in her NYT article. So does Carol Williams of the LA Times. And here it is, in the official ICTY press release:

“For example, the Appeals Chamber observed that the Trial Chamber received evidence that in meetings with Karadžić “it had been decided that one third of Muslims would be killed, one third would be converted to the Orthodox religion and a third will leave on their own” and thus all Muslims would disappear from Bosnia.”

If this is what it considers “evidence,” the ICTY ought to disband itself immediately, disbar all its judges and prosecutors, and sentence itself to whatever is appropriate for contempt of court and obstruction of justice. Because this particular claim is a word-for-word plagiarism (with names changed) of a statement made by Mile Budak, Nazi Croatia’s minister of culture, in a 1941 speech about Croatian plans for the Serbs.

Nor can ICTY “judges” claim ignorance of this fact, because the original statement by Budak was quoted in the Karadžić “trial” not two months ago, by Nenad Kecmanović (testifying on May 31 this year, official transcript, end of p. 7133).

Take a minute for this to sink in. Not only is a political court, acting on political instructions, fabricating a political accusation for political purposes, the false evidence it cites to accuse the Serbs of genocide is based on a Croatian Nazi plan to commit a genocide of Serbs. This isn’t just blaming the victim, this is blaming the victim in order to amnesty the culprit.

And not a single Western journalist covering the “trial” has noticed this.

Still think the media have anything to do with the truth? That ICTY has anything to do with either truth or justice? Why?

Communist Race Baiting

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton

Jospeh Geha/SF Weekly: Many people may be new to the protest game, but the signage they’re using comes from old pros with an old cause.

Absolutely predictable. It turns out that communists are stirring racial tensions and are directly involved and behind the Trayvon Martin protests in numerous cities including Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. All Progressive strongholds. Meet Bob Avakian of the Revolutionary Communist Party. At 70, he’s still getting his kicks with fomenting mob violence, race baiting and cop hatred.

From KeyWiki:

Bob Avakian is the Chairman of the anti-capitalism, Maoist Communist party formed in 1975 within the United States, the Revolutionary Communist Party.

In “From Ike to Mao and Beyond” (2005), Avakian tells the story of a middle-class California boy who moved left during the ’60s, first in the Free Speech Movement and Students for a Democratic Society at Berkeley, then with the Black Panther Party, and finally into the far-left Maoism of the party he founded in 1975 the revolutionary Union – later to become the Revolutionary Communist Party.

In 1979 Avakian was arrested at a demonstration against Deng Xiaoping’s visit to the White House; charged with assaulting a police officer, he fled the United States for France. But that didn’t keep him away, oh no. Here is background on the RCP:

Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP) is an anti-capitalism, Maoist Communist party formed in 1975 within the United States. The RCP states that the only way for people to liberate themselves is through Communist revolution. The Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party is Bob Avakian.

The RCP has roots in the New Left of the 1960s and 1970s era and has active chapters in at least 15 population centers. RCP leaders believe “elections are not the arena where decisions are made about the future direction of the society” and do not participate in them.

Their magazine/newsletter is called Revolution and is published biweekly and is on their website.

Employing young people as ‘useful idiots,’ Avakian led protests in Oakland claiming: “We are all Trayvon Martin,” and earnestly led lobbying for racial unrest. Blatant and unafraid for all to see, this communist rally is the underlying heart and soul of the Obama administration and his willing foot soldiers. They are brown shirts gone red. In league and lockstep with the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, using Trayvon Martin as their martyr (when in reality it is only a mask for communistic revolution underpinnings), these Marxists forward the agenda of Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin. Heroes of Barack Obama. Ironically, the majority of these communists are middle-aged white men, screaming about the injustice of racism. Inciting riots that will hopefully spread far and wide, creating the chaos that communists need to bake a Marxist cake. Oh, hell yeah! It’s their heartfelt dream and they are desperate to see it come about. Violent and secretive, this is the nature of the Obama administration — his Stasi come to life.

These communists did not just infiltrate the Trayvon Martin protests, they organized them. Their gripes range from racism to capitalistic imperialism to the military. All talking points for the Marxist left. This is nothing new. You see it in the rewriting of history; the claim that evil is good and good is evil; the perverting of morality and religion to the Marxist cause. With slick words, deceit disguised as strength, they recruit especially from the young and the poor — claiming they will help them, empower them, free them… When in reality, they are used and discarded (many times violently) in the pursuit of wealth and power.

Their mantra should go something like: “Give me your depraved, your disowned, your disillusioned… — we will give you your heart’s desire — briefly, and then we’ll eliminate you.” Sound familiar? It should. The devil is literally in these details.

The media is more than willing to observe and defend the communists. Communist race baiting is all the rage all over America. Can the reemergence of the Occupy Movement be far behind?

Forum: What Effect Do You Think Barack Obama’s Presidency Has Had On Race Relations? Why?

The Watcher’s Council

The People’s Cube

Every week on Monday morning, the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher’s Forum with short takes on a major issue of the day. This week’s question: What Effect Do You Think Barack Obama’s Presidency Has Had On Race Relations? Why?

The Razor: Race relations are far worse today than they were 5 years ago. In fact I would go so far as to say they are worse than they’ve been since the 1970’s but I lack the proof to back up the statement beyond my gut telling me. Obama has squandered an opportunity brought about by his skin color to heal the wound of racism on the American body politic, and instead has chosen to use race to further divide Americans for his own political gain in the pursuit of goals held by a small elite cadre of white liberals.

I’m not surprised. Although a product of an African and an American, Barack Obama has never been an African-American. Instead of being raised in the African-American experience from birth, he grew up in an unusual, sheltered environment abroad and living with his white grandmother in Hawaii. Instead of growing up in a black culture shared by many white Americans, he grew up in the white subculture of ultra-leftist academics, an elite which believes it understands blacks better than the blacks themselves. This culture sees African-Americans as a group that is completely devoid of responsibility for its condition and as a result incapable of governing itself, needing the intelligent white elite to do so. This elite also sees white people who do not belong to this subculture as evil, racists responsible for the legacy of slavery and for all the attendant problems of race in America. For example the administration has been silent on Black on black violence, except to use it to attack whites and their culture of “god and guns.”

This elitists viewpoint held by Obama and the white elite backing him is blind to the common experiences of whites and blacks today. African-Americans and Caucasians live together at levels unprecedented in our history. They share common goals such as decent schools for their kids and well-paying jobs for themselves. Their cultures intermix with white teenagers listening to black rap and cheering on black sports players, while African-Americans listen to country music stars and enjoy comic book hero movies with characters rooted in the white culture of the 1940s and 1950s. These commonalities are completely invisible to Obama and his backers; all they see is what they want to see: any black-white conflict that fits their pre-existing beliefs. When that conflict turns out to be a poor fit, like the Trayvon Martin murder case, they are forced to make up such racist idiocies as “white Hispanic” to squeeze the event into their belief system.

The irony is that the views held by Obama and his white elite backers are now more racist than the society they are trying to impose them on. Americans don’t want to be hyphenated and divided anymore: they want to be united in hope, and working together to build a better future. But the white elite rules, and America continues down the path towards ruin creating a mess that will take decades to clean up. What a wasted opportunity.

The Colossus of Rhodey: Recent polls have demonstrated that the public’s views on race have deteriorated since Boss Obama has taken office. This should come as no surprise. Obama’s — and his wife Michelle’s — background includes myriad flirtations with radical concepts of the mixture of race, politics and the law. Make no mistake — Obama’s off-the-cuff comments regarding Henry Louis Gates Jr. and then Trayvon Martin weren’t “mistakes” or “gaffes” at all. They were based on how Obama truly feels about race relations in the country. Even a cursory examination of his academic background (what one can actually find, that is) easily explains this. The problem with the most recent, Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman matter, is that the president and many of his acolytes (like Eric Holder) think the country is still sitting in the year 1960 or so. Such a belief is preposterous, of course, and we saw what this belief did to the whole Zimmerman trial. This does mean to say I and many others do not have any sympathy for what the president said regarding the perceptions of many African-Americans about such instances, and their dealing with law enforcement in general. But, again, for the most part, this is 1960 thinking.

In addition, calls by the president, the Attorney General, and others for an “honest discussion” about race in America are, in reality, farcical. Racial radicals do NOT want such conversations. “Honest” conversations on race to them mean “Sit there, white people, and listen to my grievances. And, accept them without question.” If you want to see what occurs when a REAL “honest discussion” takes place, just look at the “progressives’” reaction to Bill O’Reilly’s “Talking Points” from this past week. We saw/heard everything from “he’s blaming the victim” to the usual “RACIST!”

What racial radicals run up against with the majority — especially the majority of my generation — is that this majority was brought up with Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision: Content of one’s character, and not skin color. Racial radicals have perverted this notion into “race should be taken into account” for any number of reasons. Right here, as you can see, such will result in a prodigious ideological scuffle. And I continue to believe firmly that King had it right, and that it is the only vision for America that will allow us to prosper culturally, racially, and ultimately politically.

The Glittering Eye: I think the state of racial relations in the U.S. has deteriorated over the last five years but, possibly, not for the same reasons as other Council members might.

I think that conditions have deteriorated for a number of reasons. President Obama’s election raised hopes very high. These hopes, unfortunately, have not been fulfilled. The president has not paid any particularly great attention to conditions in the African American neighborhoods of major U.S. cities other than as a part of more general policies. And economic conditions in those neighborhoods have fared worse by and large than in other parts of the country as part of the general slowdown of the economy.

I don’t think that the president has deliberately fomented racial tensions although that might have been the net effect. I think that what he has been doing is trying to explicate how many African Americans perceive events. To the extent that race is front and center in that point of view it’s because that’s how many African Americans, particularly those in the educated elite, tend to view things.

Whether that’s an accurate perception is a different question entirely.

JoshuaPundit: Ecclesiastes wrote in that portion of the Jewish scriptures known as the Megillot that there’s nothing new under the sun. I see race relations as yet another example. It appears worse than before because of two things – first, a logical result of certain trends and second, something we haven’t seen in America on a national level ever before, the ascendancy of a political leader deliberately willing to help create and emphasize incidents that exacerbate the racial divide for political gain, something I examined in some detail recently.

In his famous speech, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. challenged America to do one thing – to judge people on the content of their character rather then the color of their skin. Ironically, only a few years before his death policies were enacted by President Johnson to make sure that never happened.

The War on Poverty programs were expressly aimed at black Americans after a series of race riots that occurred that the Kerner Commission essentially excused by saying they were caused by ‘poverty’ and ‘discrimination’ The fact that various other groups of all races had suffered harsh discrimination and poverty when they came to America and managed to better the lives of themselves and their children in spite of it without either violent riots or massive government programs was deliberately ignored as a matter of political strategy.

As a result of those programs, the black family was destroyed as illegitimacy skyrocketed and test scores of black children in the public schools plummeted while programs originally designed as a social safety net were bloated out of all shape to create a culture of government dependency. It not only included welfare benefits that actually encouraged black women to marry the government rather than the fathers of their children, it encouraged the bigotry of low expectations with quotas for government jobs, contracts and college scholarships that were often doled out on the basis of skin color rather than merit.

As someone whose ancestors were slaves and whose people commemorate the harsh conditions of that slavery and our release from it every year, I recognize certain things in today’s events when it comes to this topic. The Torah relates in Exodus how the Hebrews were at first overjoyed at the divine intercession that gave them their freedom and then took all of the blessings they received as something they had coming to them Just Because. They promptly started complaining about the manna (food), the accommodations, the lack of diversion, the leadership of Moses, the water supply and finally even the source of all the benefits they’d received, which led them to construct a Golden Calf to worship and ultimately proved a false idol that endangered their very existence and came close to destroying them.

This is an excellent example of what I call the ‘slave mentality’, and why G-d in His wisdom made sure to allow the Hebrews 40 years in the desert to grow out of it. Those of you who want to substitute a certain president for that Golden Calf who seemed so promising but ultimately only made things worse in today’s version of these events have get no complaints from me.

While many blacks have likewise managed to shed this mentality, a number have not, with results that are quite evident. This is the essence of grievance politics; being dependent on Massa has simply been replaced with being dependent on Big Government. The crunch has come because even the United States of America is finally running out of other people’s money to subsidize this, and any efforts to change course are attributed to white racism, although the terms ‘Tea Party’, ‘conservatives’ ‘Republicans’ and ‘Corporate Greed’ seem to work quite nicely as acceptable code words.

Wolf Howling: Historically, nothing has more poisoned our society than racism and the “racial divide.” Today, half the equation – white racism – no longer prevails in society. But the “racial divide” is still deep. It is a divide carefully tended by the far left. For some of the blacks who have bought into it, there is money and power. There are, for example, the race baiters like Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson. There are the tenured professors in ethnic studies programs at every university that teach nothing but racial grievance. Then there are the far left politicians of whatever color, from President Obama on down. They see that racial divide as not merely a route to political power, but a foundational element of it.

Blacks, starting with Goldwater’s incredibly ill advised opposition to the Civil Rights Act, have been convinced that their interests lay with the left. And blacks have ever since proven to be a monolithic voting block like none ever before seen in our nation. Over 90% of every black vote since the mid-60′s has gone for Democrats. If the left ever loses that block of votes, they will be in deep, deep electoral trouble.

So is it any surprise at all that President Obama has tried to poison the well of race relations at every turn? No administration in history has ever played the race card like the Obama administration. Want to prevent voter fraud – you’re racist. Oppose Obama’s spending – you’re a neo-confederate “tea bagger.” Oppose Obamacare – you might as well be standing next to Bull Connor in Selma setting the dogs loose on MLK.

When Obama had a chance to actually address the problems in the black community a few days ago, he told us that Trayvon Martin was Baracky Jr. He told us how bad it was, based on his personal experience, to be a black man in America and be ‘profiled’ because of his skin color. Lest there be any question that he was saying that racism – as opposed to rationality about black violence and criminality – was the cause, Obama expounded further. As to dysfunction in the black community – the violence, single mothers, cyclical poverty, substandard education – Obama told us that those things must be put in “historical context.”

There is no question that, in the short run, Obama has worsened race relations in our nation. But I would submit that, in the end, the efforts of him and his administration is only adding straws to a proverbial camel’s back. At some point, it will break – to the immense benefit of our nation and the black community in particular. It has to because all the imperatives that gave rise to the black Civil Rights movement have flipped.

In the 1960′s, blacks were the subject of white racism. In 2013, racism has been wholly driven from mainstream society. Our society has revolutionized, and done so in only three generations, like no other in recorded history. To the extent racism exists today, it is on the margins. When you see a woman at one of race hustler Al Sharpton’s rallies hold up a sign that says “Racism’s still alive. They Just Be Hiding It,” that tells you all you need to know about the absence of racism in mainstream society.

Two, the moral high ground no longer rests with blacks. The most significant problems besetting black society – criminality, violence, breakdown of the family with three out of every four black children born to single mothers – those are problems internal to black society. They are not caused by white racism. Moreover, to the extent that the government contributes to the problems of the black community, it is ultimately because addressing the problems of black society honestly would break the monolithic voting block on which the left relies, and in the case of education, would mean taking on teachers unions that provide the single greatest source of funding for the Democrats. This is a travesty, as is the fact that Republicans, despite the urging of such luminaries as Thomas Sowell, have not made any concerted effort to point out these truths to the black community and seek their votes.

Lastly, since whites make up the majority of society, the success of the racial grievance industry ultimately rests on the existence of white guilt. But with racism no longer endemic to society, white guilt is fast fading. The race card is becoming ever less effective, and at some point, the constant claim that anything the left doesn’t like is motivated by conservative’s racism is not merely going to be ineffective, it is going to engender outright anger.

We are inexorably moving to the day when blacks stop their monolithic support of the far left. That will mean that they have joined American society and are no longer claiming to be perpetual victims of it. It will be the day the racial divide ends – and President Obama, with his administration’s overuse of the race card, will have, wholly unintentionally, done his part to end it.

Well, there you have it.
