The Great Christmas Boots Adventure/Conservative New Year’s Eve Party

By: Lloyd Marcus

Mary and I just arrived home to Florida after campaigning around the country most of the year for conservative candidates. Our pet/house sitter did an excellent job keeping our animals (greyhound, three cats and three birds) happy and our home in order.

A large tree in our backyard died and fell. Thank God it did not hit our house. Mary gets really nervous whenever I play with ladders, chainsaws and fire. Still, I safely used my chainsaw to cut up and stack the fallen tree. I dealt with various other neglected homeowner projects.

It was refreshing taking a break from my 24/7 focus on fighting Obama and company’s 24/7 attacks on our freedoms and destruction of our country. Please note that I only took a break. Every patriot must stay engaged fighting to save our country.

I dug the Christmas tree and decorations out of our backyard storage shed. The radio in my shed and car are on the all Christmas music station.

I turned 66 years old October 31st. I do not know if this is due to my age, but I noticed something a bit different in my emotions this year. For some unexplained reason, the classic Christmas songs performed by the likes of Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams and others mean much more to me than they did in the past.

Mary informed me that my Christmas gift to her is a new pair of leather boots. Because my beautiful awesome wife deserves everything I can give her, accompanying her in her quest to find the perfect boots has caused me to boldly go where few men have gone before; numerous shoe stores and malls packed with shoppers, aromas of sweet delights and long lines of parents with their very excited loud kids waiting to chat and take a picture with Santa.

Honey, we have already gone to Macy’s, Dillard’s and the others.” “Yes, but not every Macy’s and the others carry the same boots” she replied. “Oh, okay”, I replied.

I do not enjoy shopping. Witnessing Mary’s extraordinary diligence has been fascinating. First, she spent hours on the internet researching. She is probably informed enough to give a seminar on boot manufacturers and designers.

Something else I have detected is that when we are in the malls/stores, Mary is truly enjoying herself. So, this is my Christmas gift to my wife, not just the boots, but hanging out with her in the stores in her quest to purchase the boots. While Mary would never pressure me to shop with her, I know she really appreciates me accompanying her, even though I wander off for awhile; watching football on the store TVs and so on.

No, we have not found her perfect boots; wrong color, sold out in her size, not quite the right style and the calf part is too large.

Meanwhile, I am excited to announce that Mary and I will be flying out to Reno, Nevada to host the December 31st – Conservative New Year’s Eve Party. You can watch the special 8-hour broadcast live from anywhere in the world online at our website: http://bit.ly/1luQguK

The program will air from 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM Eastern (12:00 Noon – 8:00 PM Pacific), which will give you time to still watch the ball drop at Times Square in New York City at Midnight, or whatever other New Years evening plans you might want to make.

Bottom line: this New Year’s Eve, you need not watch the mainstream TV networks with hosts and guests who will inject their liberal propaganda into everything, raising your blood pressure, especially as they review the events of the year. No, instead, our national conservative family is getting together for a massive celebration of our values, our victories and our plans heading into 2015!

The Conservative New Year’s Eve Party will feature some of the leading conservatives from around the nation. We’ll be unveiling these special celebrity guests in the days to come.

Please join us by watching The Conservative New Year’s Eve Party folks. It is going to be fun! https://www.facebook.com/events/1528040540782265

Maybe we will be more successful shopping for Mary’s perfect boots in Nevada rather than Florida.

Media Celebrate Obama’s “Audacity”

By: Roger Aronoff
Accuracy in Media

For the left-wing media, the period between the devastating electoral defeat the Democrats suffered in November and the end of the lame duck session in Congress this month provided an opportunity for Obama to act “audaciously” and fulfill promises he made to his base as a candidate.

At the same time, the President is thumbing his nose at the segment of America increasingly disillusioned by his agenda and executive overreach. The media fervor celebrates President Obama’s most radical policies—from a lifeline to the communist dictatorship in Cuba, to a unilateral rewriting of immigration laws, to an absurd deal with China, whereby the U.S. commits to severe and specific cutbacks of energy use by 2025, while the Chinese commit to nothing except to consider starting cutbacks in 2030, all in the name of global warming,

“President Obama’s decision on Wednesday to radically shift United States policy toward Cuba is the latest and most striking example of a president unleashed from the hesitancy that characterized much of his first six years in office,” reported The New York Times last week. They did mention his past promise to promote normalization only “if Cuba took steps toward democracy and released all political prisoners.” In fact there have been no such steps taken, and “According to the Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation,” reported USA Today, “the number of political prisoners detained in Cuba has risen from 2,074 in 2010 to 6,424 in 2013. Through the first 11 months of 2014, that number is at 8,410.” Mark that as yet another broken promise by President Obama in the vein of, “If you like your doctor…”

With the notion that Obama is “unleashed from the hesitancy,” the Times, in essence, dismisses the controversial legacy of President Obama’s far-from-hesitant nor un-noteworthy six years, such as:

Similarly, Politico celebrates “Obama libre:” “If President Barack Obama’s year ended in November, it would have been one of the worst of his presidency,” it reports. “Good thing he had the past five weeks.”

“Obama feels liberated, aides say, and sees the recent flurry of aggressive executive action and deal-making as a pivot for him to spend his final two years in office being more the president he always wanted to be,” writes Politico.

The impression given by both the Times and Politico is that Obama is now unleashed because he doesn’t have to cater to public opinion or worry about upcoming elections. In other words, he is taking all of these actions now that he was previously constrained from doing by political considerations. Not surprisingly, Politico quotes from “a senior Obama aide,” while the Times refers extensively to former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod.

“By framing his moves in generational terms, the president is also seeking to make an implicit case that Republicans who oppose them are dinosaurs fighting yesterday’s battles,” reports the Times. Similarly, using a typical straw man, Politico reports that “Republicans” say “Obama’s liberation…is a combination of delusion and bitter denial that’s just setting him up for a lot of pain once Congress is fully in their hands in two weeks.”

Where is the national dialogue about a president’s duty to reflect the will of the people, or the discussion about whether this unhinged President lost his public mandate after the November elections? No, the perception created by his aides and the liberal media is that President Obama is still going strong. As long as the President pursues a left-wing agenda, these news outlets and others will continue their obvious cheerleading.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Longfellow’s Reflection

By: Arlen Williams
Gulag Bound

Longfellow-Henry-W

For hate is strong,
And mocks the song…

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,

and wild and sweet
The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along
The unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till ringing, singing on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime,
A chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,

And with the sound
The carols drowned

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearth-stones of a continent,

And made forlorn
The households born

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;

“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,

With peace on earth, good-will to men.”

The Council Has Spoken!! The Watcher’s Council Results – 12/26/14

The Watcher’s Council

Al Shaprton: I’M HERE TO HELP
From the Genius of Sabo at Unsavory Agents

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast and the results are in for this week’s Watcher’s Council match-up.

But first, we have some important business to take care of. We have an important occasion to celebrate, the birthday of our own Dave Schuler of the The Glittering Eye.

It actually works out in a way that this week’s Council Results coincide with Boxing Day rather than Dave’s actual birthday, which falls on Christmas Day. This way, he doesn’t have to share his birthday party with any other holiday and it gives us an extra day for celebration.

First, a suitable cake. On a previous occasion, we really enjoyed a double Dutch chocolate number with chocolate ganache icing and just a lil’ bit of rum for flavor. It went over so well, I decided to get two for this occasion… one with rum, one without.

I also picked out some chilled Veuve Cliquot to drink… brut, of course.

And we’ll also have a nice assortment of fruit juices and mineral water.

And for those of you who want something a little stronger, one of my faves… Talisker’s 18-year old Single Malt, a real charmer.

Dave and I go back, what… is it really ten years? He predates me on the Council and I’ve never forgotten his first reaction when I came aboard. In those days, we didn’t vote on new members, the Watcher simply decided on his own and Dave used to write little blerbs giving his own reaction to each Council member’s entry, something I wish he still did. At my debut, he wrote on his site to the effect that he had enjoyed New Sisyphus (the member I replaced), but was going to wait and see about this Joshuapundit guy. I hope he’s finally made up his mind about me!

Dave Schuler runs one of the best one man blogs out there. He remains very much the Council’s renaissance man, whose varied interests run the gamut from politics and world affairs, to opera, wine, economics, cooking, dogs, martial arts and a thousand other subjects. And he has a lot to say about all of them! Even more to his credit, he specializes in common sense, a quality today that’s not at all common nowadays.

In all the time I’ve known him, not only has he cheerfully put up with all my nonsense, but he’s always been there whenever I’ve needed help and good advice. And I’ve never ceased to appreciate his clarity of thought, his ability to get to the heart of the matter, or our friendship.

And that’s the thing, really. You meet the most wonderful people blogging.

Happy Birthday, Dave, and many, many more. And no worries… we’ve already alerted the Fire Department about all those candles.

Another brief note before we get down to business. Our dear friend and Council member Marion Algier of Ask Marion has been fighting a tough battle against cancer. She’s a real scrapper though and I’m proud to say that based on a recent medical report she appears to be getting the upper hand, G-d willing!

Such fights are fairly expensive, however.

If any of you feel able to visit her site and drop some shekels in her PayPal tip jar, please do so. It would be a wonderful thing to do, especially at this time of year. And send her your prayers.

This week’s winning essay is my piece over at JoshuapunditWhat Christmas Really Means, And Why The Left Hates It. Here’s a slice:

In two days, Christians around the world will celebrate Christmas, the birthday of Jesus of Nazareth, called the Christ..or as I, a non-Christian sometimes respectfully refer to him, Rav Yussel ben-Yosef. For among other attributes, Jesus was also a learned rabbi.

While historical evidence points towards the actual birthday of Jesus being in the spring, the December 25th date – January 6th for Orthodox Christians – are the traditional days Christians celebrate.

It is a time of year when people in predominantly Christian countries are more expansive, more gentle and more at peace with each other. They smile more, and they let the little things go because it’s Christmas, a time of cheer and good will, a time for friends and family.

It is also a time when the secular Left unleashes savage attacks on the very nature of Christ and the holiday itself. Satanists demand the right to set up displays next to manger scenes, smarmy writers mock the traditions of Christmas and Christianity and atheists and Leftists go on the warpath with lawsuits designed to try and stop public religious displays of faith, especially Christian ones.

One writer whom I won’t link to even made the point in a very well-known far Left outlet that religion in general is ‘rapey’ (her word) and Christianity in particular because – wait for it- it teaches that G-d raped the Virgin Mary without her consent, since consent isn’t explicitly mentioned in Scripture. So of course, this is just another instance of the ‘Patriarchy’ in action.

Before I go on, let me point out that all of these attacks are permissible free speech, although there’s no doubt in my mind that if we were talking about Islam, they’d be a lot more circumspect.Or perhaps outright cowardly and hypocritical is a more accurate way to put it.

But if we get beyond the secular trapping and look at the real meaning of Christmas, it becomes obvious that all these attacks on Christianity have a distinct motivation. It becomes glaringly apparent why the Left does what it does.

Christmas is above all a time for Christians to celebrate a miracle of their faith, the birth of their Messiah, born in the humblest of surroundings but recognized by the Magi and generations of future Christians as Lord and Savior. To Christians, Jesus is whom they owe ultimate allegiance to, not to government or to secular power, but to heavenly power. If Jesus is their Lord, than no secular lord can be, and if Jesus is the way, the truth and the light, salvation comes from the Lord, not from Moscow, or Peking, or Washington DC, or any other seat of government.

The Founders themselves understood this quite well, that the unalienable rights they sought came from their Creator, not government, or an earthly king.

To the Left, this belief goes against everything they stand for. That’s why the Left needs so badly to to mock, attack and destroy it. And why all of us, even those of us whom are not Christians need to defend it.

You’ll find much more at the link.

In our non-Council category, the winner was Heather MacDonald’s fine piece at the City JournalThe Big Lie of the Anti-Cop Left Turns Lethal submitted by The Watcher. It is simply one of the better things written so far about the current war by the Left against the police.

We hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas!
