Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is not afraid of offending Christian-bashers or global warming alarmists, for that matter. Referring to those slamming various iterations of Indiana’s “Freedom Restoration Act” as waging a “jihad” against religious liberty, Cruz illustrates yet again that he will not be bullied by intolerant left-wing activists.
Brian Tashman of Right Wing Watch reported on Cruz’s statement, proclaiming strangely and inaccurately that Ted Cruz “lashed out at the gay community.” During a panel discussion moderated by Steve Deace with the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators, Cruz said in part:
We look at the jihad that is being waged right now in Indiana and Arkansas, going after people of faith who respect the biblical teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.
It should be noted that in this author’s opinion, the need for “Religious Liberty” laws is entirely unnecessary as the First Amendment to the Constitution explicitly covers freedom of religion. The First Amendment does not need to be “restored” as it has not been repealed. In fact, such well-intended legislation may contribute to a damaging breakdown of the enduring power of the Bill of Rights.
Cruz continued to say:
We need to bring people together to the religious liberty values that built this country.
Political commentator Trevor Loudon agrees with Cruz’s assessment, as well as the author’s opinion that legislation affirming the First Amendment is unnecessary and as he noted, “concedes ground to the political left.” Loudon, whose book The Enemies Within:Communists, Socialists and Progressives in the US Congress is currently being made into a feature documentary, also told Broadside News that “Cruz is a breath of fresh air for American Constitutionalists.”
He [Cruz] tells it like it is and stands boldly and unashamedly for his beliefs. He is one of those ‘rare as hen’s teeth’ politicians who can appeal to both the head and heart of citizens. He has the inspiration factor.
As an aside, Cruz also repeated his position that “school choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century.”
Matt Wilstein of Mediaite derided Cruz for taking a stand on the matter, stating in part:
Over the course of America’s recent debate on ‘religious freedom’ laws, most potential Republican candidates for president were hesitant to come down too hard in either direction. Jeb Bush appeared to shift his position on the issue and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) more or less ignored it. But not Ted Cruz.
But does he [Cruz] really think that this type of talk is going to lead to him becoming president of the United States?

T F Stern’s Rantings
When an individual puts on a uniform in the service of his community or country, either as a fireman, police officer or military serviceman we recognize the uniform perhaps more than the individual. If they get injured while in our service it’s our moral duty to take care of them.
An article at the Fox News website by Catherine Herridge, Fort Hood shooting victim denied benefits, despite Purple Heart decision pointed out that a military board has denied benefits to a soldier who was shot during the Ft. Hood terrorist attack.
You may recall the Obama administration pressured the military into calling the shooting “work place violence” rather than classifying the shooting as a terrorist event “even though the evidence showed Hasan was emailing the Al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki prior to the attack”.
But that’s not all…the administrators of our military, those charged with looking after our servicemen who put the uniform on each day in defense of our nation took it a step further.
“MAJ Hasan has been charged with criminal activity, but has not been adjudicated a terrorist. Therefore, the clear preponderance of evidence does not support that the injuries sustained were the direct result of armed conflict,” the letter said.
I wonder what planet these administrators are from; really! Getting shot six times isn’t the result of armed conflict? Must have been one heck of a game of Tidily Winks those soldiers at Fort Hood were playing.
Putting aside whether or not the injuries were the result of an attack carried out during war time, on foreign soil or our own should not matter… shouldn’t a member of our military be taken care of if he/she fell off a loading dock while pealing potatoes assigned to KP duty? (I know, soldiers no longer are required to perform KP; pick some similar mundane chore like slipping down on a wet floor while cleaning the head)
There you go, soldier; we don’t have to pay for your injuries because you can’t prove they happened as an act of war. Chew on that for a while …
Of course there are two sides to every coin; taking into account the numerous attempts to feign injury in order to collect a fat Workman’s Compensation package. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
A friend of mine worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a criminal inspector. One of his jobs was investigating individuals who were collecting disability from the government, folks suspected of being less than honest about their injuries. He told me about folks who claimed they were too injured to work collecting full benefits that showed up each month in their mail box. The only problem was these folks were fit as a fiddle and off working ‘cash jobs’ that went as unreported income when they were supposed to be at home in their sick bed.
I wish there were more inspectors catching free loaders; but that goes against current policy under the Obama administration. Truth be known, I think there are bonuses set aside for the more creative free loaders.
Talk about free loaders and spending taxpayer money, what about this?
“The director of the Philadelphia VA regional benefits office was paid $288,000 in “relocation payments” to move the 140 miles from Washington, D.C. to her new home last year”.
“Federal regulations allow for the reimbursement of relocation expenses including the “costs of house-hunting, moving, terminating leases, and a per-diem rate for meals and temporary housing for an employee and his or her family,” the spokesman said.”
I’m so happy to know the VA administrators are able to take care of themselves; but isn’t their job to take care of military personnel who need medical treatment? (Sounds like they have their priorities messed up)
Moving right along…
I remember one police officer who fell out of his chair at the station and collected full disability benefits for about a year; that’s full pay with benefits, tax free because it was carried as Injury on Duty. (not making this up folks; this actually happened)
Back in the 70s an off duty uniformed Houston Police Officer was injured while working traffic at the Astrodome, an extra-job where his salary was furnished by the Astrodome. Long story short; he was seriously injured by a vehicle while working traffic; but the City denied his request for Injury on Duty status.
The City of Houston claimed that at the time of his injuries his actual employer was the Astrodome and refused to pay while he was out of work. Eventually the courts convinced the City of their responsibility because the officer was directing traffic and wearing a uniform which represented his authority, authority which could only be given by the City of Houston.
More recently another Houston Police Officer, Jason Roy, survived a roll over accident during a chase. His promised benefits have been denied after being disabled with a broken neck, making him unable to perform as a police officer.
‘“The City of Houston is cooperating fully and is not contesting Officer Roy’s medical condition. The case is moving through the process dictated by the state. The next scheduled hearing will occur in mid-November. The decision as to whether benefits are granted is made by the Worker’s Compensation Division of the Texas Department of Insurance, not the city,” city of Houston Director of Human Resources Omar Reid.”
This means there’s a bureaucrat stationed somewhere along the chain of command to deny benefits; either at the City, State or Federal level of government. Somebody is employed in a position of authority to ignore benefits promised, ignore right from wrong and to limit final responsibility in favor of saving the taxpayers money.
I would hope our military service men and women would be treated better; but our government is run by folks who have lost their compass as to what’s right and wrong. Injury on Duty means nothing to administrators and bureaucrats whose sole purpose in life is to screw over those who’ve earned these benefits.

Accuracy in Media
President Barack Obama has issued a declaration on human sexuality and what constitutes moral and mental health for the nation. He is warning Christian parents that the federal government wants their kids.
This is not how the story is being reported, however. For example, a story in Politico carries the headline, “Barack Obama denounces ‘conversion therapies’ for gays,” with the words “conversion therapies” in quotes, as if to suggest there’s some doubt that homosexuals can return to being straight. This is all too typical of the mentality that grips the major media and is designed to suggest that homosexuality is somehow natural and cannot be changed. But honest journalism, which is virtually non-existent when covering homosexuality, would take a different approach to the topic.
As Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth notes, there are plenty of former homosexuals. Has the Politico reporter Louis Nelson ever met or reported on them? We can’t find any record of that. So if the magazine doesn’t report on them, they must not exist. This is not journalism but cheerleading for Obama and the gay rights cause. It’s also a disservice to the parents of young people who need help and have a right to information about both sides of the story.
Rich Wyler, founder and director of the group, People Can Change, does not exist in a world where the liberal media and the gay rights movement become one and the same. He says that before he found sexual-orientation change therapy in the 1990s, “I was so conflicted over unwanted same-sex attractions that I was suicidal and self-destructive.” He goes on, “Sexual-reorientation therapy saved my life. I was in my 30s; I only wish I’d found this kind of help as a teenager or young adult. It could have saved me years of heartbreak and confusion.”
The other side of the story would include reporting that Obama’s political proclamation in favor of outlawing sexual-orientation change therapy not only constitutes crass exploitation of the terrible suicide of a mixed-up young person named Joshua Alcorn but serves as an indictment of his Christian parents. Joshua was confused about his sexuality and had begun referring to himself as a girl, Leelah. The parents had tried to get help for the troubled 17-year-old before he committed suicide.
The implication of the Politico-style reporting on this topic is that being “homosexual and transgender” is a fact of life that cannot be changed. That’s false. But the media just can’t bring themselves to report the facts.
Politico says the parents in this case found religious therapists who “attempted to convert her [Leelah] back into a boy.” This, too, is false. The child was a boy. Politico calls him “a transgender girl,” another falsehood.
In essence, Obama is proposing to ban parents, on a national basis, from seeking help for their children when they go through confusing times or have sexual problems. This is the totalitarian mind-set of the gay rights movement and its supporters.
This is not just a discussion about media bias. It’s important we understand what’s happening here. Obama’s statement, delivered by Valerie Jarrett on his behalf, is a declaration of war on parents, especially Christian parents who object to the government sanctioning and promoting homosexuality as another “lifestyle.”
From Obama’s perspective, these parents stand in the way of creating an army of “LGBT” young people who will forever be grateful to the President for standing up for their “rights.” Like the dope smokers in Colorado, participating in what Obama calls an “experiment,” these young people constitute another Democratic Party constituency. Obama doesn’t seem concerned, however, about the consequences of their immoral behavior. After all, he was a heavy dope smoker and look what happened to him and where he ended up.
Although Obama’s statement on human sexuality was “not accompanied by any concrete statements of policy,” as Politico put it, two states, California and New Jersey, as well as the District of Columbia, have banned parents from having a role in raising their children in this area of human sexuality. Politico seems to be begging the President to introduce national legislation to put parents in their place. Perhaps that’s the next step.
Like the editors at Politico, Democratic Rep. Jerrold Nadler (NY) also seems to think Obama knows best. Nadler issued a statement declaring, “I believe that licensed mental health professionals should be prohibited from engaging in these deceptive and damaging practices.” So the politicians, including Obama, are going to decide what constitutes “mental health.” This is reminiscent of the approach taken by the USSR’s psychiatric hospitals. Perhaps political dissidents on the issue of homosexuality in the United States will be assigned to the kind of mental hospitals the communists ran in the old Soviet Union.
In other words, a form of “conversion therapy” will be retained, but used on those who resist the homosexual movement’s demands for our children. Believers in the old-fashioned values of one man and one woman marriage will be “re-educated,” or else.
Citing Obama’s declaration on the correct state of mental health, Richard Cohen of the Southern Poverty Law Center has declared, “Our fight for LGBT equality has just received a major boost.” This well-funded leftist group is using the legal system to terrorize groups like JONAH (Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing) from helping homosexuals escape the behavior that puts their mental and physical health in danger.
Cohen declared, “While President Obama has done the nation a great service by speaking out, he hasn’t yet introduced any new policy initiatives. That’s why our work is so important. We’re going to trial [against JONAH] in New Jersey this summer, and we’ll continue doing everything we can to stop the destructive use of conversion therapy across the country.”
JONAH, with the help of the Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund, is fighting back and has affirmed, “We continue our defense of the right of individuals to freely choose the help they believe will allow them to live their lives consistent with their personal and religious beliefs.”
As I noted in a recent column, a legal brief before the Supreme Court in a same-sex marriage case argues that a ruling against traditional values could result in websites offering information about withdrawing from homosexual behavior being outlawed as “hate speech.”
Not only are the rights to freedom of the press and religion now at risk, parental rights are also in jeopardy. We are now seeing Obama and the progressives, including the homosexual movement, making a raw power grab for our kids. The parents are being labeled as the lunatics.
Yet while the Obama administration opposes counseling for young people who may want to change their sexual feelings from homosexual to heterosexual, they have no problem paying for traitor Bradley Manning to physically “change” from being a “he” to a “she.” It is reported that the Army has agreed to pay for hormone treatments, makeup, and female underwear for Manning, who is serving a 35-year sentence for espionage and other charges, so he can become “Chelsea.”
Obama’s “fundamental transformation” of America is getting downright weird. It appears to be a one-way street away from our Judeo-Christian values. Like so many other policies pursued by this President, it’s difficult to see how this one can do anything but weaken the United States.
