Steve Phillips understands that a “Rainbow Coalition” of minorities already has the numbers to form the “New American Majority.” If Steve Phillips and his billionaire socialist friends can build that coalition sufficiently in 2018 and 2020, they will become a permanent new American ruling class.

Part 11 here.

Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in Florida by just under 113,000 votes. For the left, Florida’s 27 Congressional Districts and 29 Electoral College votes are a tempting prize indeed.

If the Democrats can flip Florida in 2018/2020, they will almost certainly win the White House.

San Francisco lawyer and key Democratic Party operative Steve Phillips is targeting the Sunshine State. Florida has an open gubernatorial race this year and Phillips wants to use this election to inspire the state’s black and Latino voting base to vote all the way down to the bottom of the ballot. Phillips realizes that if he can steer his chosen candidate into the governor’s mansion this year, Florida will likely go blue in 2020.

If that happens – no more President Trump.

Steve Phillips chose his gubernatorial candidate months, if not years ago. It is the current mayor of Tallahassee, Andrew Gillum.

Steve Phillips has known Andrew Gillum for years. Gillum has served on the board of Phillips’ PowerPAC+ since at least 2012.

Steve Phillips wrote in July 2013:

At PAC+, we will continue to work to identify and back candidates in strategic races and states across the country. In Florida, for instance, our Board member Andrew Gillum is running for Mayor of Tallahassee next year, and candidates such as Andrew, who is just 33 years old, can comprise the nucleus of a new group of political leaders who can methodically take power and reorder the state’s policies and priorities in coming years.

Andrew Gillum is an extreme radical. Part of Florida’s existing “political nucleus,” former Florida State Sen Tony Hill endorsed Gillum for Governor, November 9 2017.

“I am extraordinarily excited to endorse Mayor Andrew Gillum for Governor today. I have known him since his days on Florida A&M University’s campus as a student leader and activist — long before he became Mayor of Tallahassee. Back then you could tell he had a special quality that inspired his peers and elders, and he carries that spirit and passion with him in this race to take back Florida. He will deliver solutions to our most pressing challenges and be a true champion for Jacksonville.”

Replied Gillum:

“Senator Hill has long been a mentor and friend to me, and it’s humbling to receive his endorsement today. .. I can’t wait to campaign with him in Jacksonville and all over the state.”

The Hill/Gillum relationship is revealing. During the time that the pair worked together as activists, Tony Hill was a known Communist Party USA supporter.

In 2002, with the motto, “Protect the real Florida – for working people!,” Communist Party member Russell Pelle ran for the Soil and Water Conservation Board in Duval County Florida, “hammering Republican Gov. Jeb Bush for coddling corporate polluters and real estate developers.” Tony Hill, then with SEIU, endorsed Pelle, who he worked with “closely on labor issues.”

The Haitian Memorial Pyramid Project was conceived in Jacksonville, Florida by Communist  Russell Pelle several months after the January 12, 2010 earthquake. This endeavor sought to build a memorial pyramid to the victims of the Haiti earthquake, covering a mass grave-site from the rubble of victims’ homes. In March 2010, it was presented to and supported by Florida State Senator Tony Hill at a Haitian-American beach party. An executive board was established and the project incorporated on November 10, 2010. The first formal endorsement came from Senator Hill on November 24, 2010. It was also supported by now-jailed Congresswoman (and Communist Party supporter) Corrine Brown and Florida Senator Bill Nelson.

Tony Hill also made a personal endorsement in the Communist Party USA’s People’s World newspaper of June 2, 2007, on page 2 of the publication.

Tony Hill was appointed one of President Barack Obama’s “Fave Five” during the 2008 election cycle. Hill also served as Florida’s co-chair of the Florida Change Committee (and as a member of the Florida Advisory Council) for Senator Barack Obama’s successful bid for the presidency. He also led a Florida-wide bus tour, ”It’s About Us OBAMA/BIDEN.” Hill was later short-listed for an ambassadorship to Bermuda. Now directing “community outreach and field operations from Lake City to Jacksonville” for Congressman Al Lawson, Tony Hill will be a powerful asset to Gillum’s campaign.

The most powerful local ally in the Gillum camp is the New Florida Majority and its affiliated organizations.

From the New Florida Majority website:

Florida is changing demographically and politically and NewFM is poised to be the democratic engine that helps move the Sunshine State onto the path of equity and justice for all people and not just a small band of well-connected elites…

NewFM works daily to create an inclusive multiracial, multilingual and multicultural movement that seeks to unite people across economic, racial, religious and gender lines through a shared love of a democracy that serves all.

The New Florida Majority (NFM) is modeled after New Virginia Majority, the Alexandria-based voter registration organization that turned Virginia almost blue.

Like New Virginia Majority, the New Florida Majority (NFM) and its close ally, Florida Immigrants Coalition (FLIC), are fronts for America’s largest Maoist-leaning communist group, the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

Freedom Road is very secretive about membership, so very few NFM or FLIC leaders are public about their membership. Badillii Jones, one time political and alliance officer for FNM, is an open Freedom Roader, while several other staffers have Freedom Road front histories.

Current NFM Executive Director Andrea Mercado was active in the Freedom Road-aligned National Domestic Workers Alliance and was part of the Ear to the Ground Project (which was partially funded by Steve Phillips).

Mercado’s predecessor Gihan Perera co-founded two Freedom Road fronts: the Miami Workers Center and the Right to the City Alliance. Perera is now a program director at the Ford Foundation, another hotbed of Freedom Road Socialist Organization support activity.

Maria Rodriguez, executive director of the NFM-allied Florida Immigrant Coalition, also has Freedom Road ties. After college, she joined Tenants and Workers United in Virginia, where she worked under Freedom Road Socialist Organization member Jon Liss, the founder of New Virginia Majority. Rodriguez has been a board member for Florida New Majority and of another Freedom Road front, the famous Highlander Research and Education Center in Tennessee.

Andrea Mercado (2013), Gihan Perera (2005), Maria Rodriguez (2009) and Jon Liss (2010) all graduated from year-long courses at the Rockwood Leadership Institute, a Freedom Road connected activist/revolutionary training school based in Oakland, California.

Andrew Gillum, while serving as director of Youth Leadership Programs for People for the American Way, graduated from the same Rockwood Social Transformation Project program in 2012.

Unsurprisingly New Florida Majority endorsed Andrew Gillum over his Democratic competitors.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum released the following statement, June 13 2018:

“I’m honored to receive New Florida Majority’s endorsement! They’re on the front lines of taking back our state for working people, and I’m proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them in fighting for our families, jobs with living wages and dignity, a thriving public education system that pays teachers what they’re worth, and quality, affordable health care as a constitutional right for every Floridian.”

“We looked at the candidates, their answers to our survey and their performance at tonight’s debate and determined that Andrew Gillum is the leader Florida needs to guide the state towards a more equitable future,” said NewFM Executive Director Andrea Mercado. “His performance today and his campaign so far has proven that he is willing to be bold and unapologetic in standing up for our communities.”

Walking away from the debate, several members were already eager to hit the streets and mobilize community members to vote for Gillum in the August primary.

Andrew Gillum had previously met with New Florida Majority in April of 2018.

Of the NFM activists named above, Gihan Perera, Valencia Gunder, Renee Mowatt and Dwight Bullard all are affiliated in some way with Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

New Florida Majority is a force to be reckoned with. The organization has helped elect many “progressives” to public office statewide by harvesting the minority, “low propensity” voters that are rarely solicited.

From WRLN:

South Florida Democratic candidates who had no reason to expect victory are preparing to be sworn in to office now thanks to the votes of people whom the pollsters largely ignored: unlikely voters.

One election post-mortem from the liberal nonprofit America Votes suggests unlikely voters cast 34 percent of the early and mail-in absentee votes during this election, propelling liberal Democrats such as Jose Javier Rodriguez of Miami and State Senator Maria Sachs of Boca Raton unexpectedly to the winners’ circle…

FNM staff and volunteers made calls and knocked on doors for Rodriguez, Sachs and other Democrats around the state.

NFM also contributed manpower and data to winning Democratic Senate candidates Dwight Bullard of Miami and Darren Soto of Orlando. (Darren Soto is now a Congressman)

The New Florida Majority makes no pretense of bi-partisanship. It is all in for Democrats – “progressive” Democrats. Beside its ties to the Florida Immigration Coalition, NFM is also close to Democratic Socialists of America and the Florida Democratic Progressive Caucus – the DSA/Bernie Sanders wing of the Florida Democratic Party.

These groups alone will supply several hundred volunteers to the Gillum campaign.

Watch this video featuring then NFM activist Tomas Kennedy – active with Democratic Socialists of America, the Florida Immigrant Coalition and a former chair of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party Progressive Caucus.

The New Florida Majority can be relied on to harvest tens of thousands of minority votes for Andrew Gillum – but where will they find the campaign money needed? All of Gillum’s Democratic primary opponents are millionaire or even billionaires in their own right.

Gillum has an ally, a semi-secret nest of billionaire leftist donors known as the Democracy Alliance.

Gillum’s long-term mentor Steve Phillips was involved in the Democracy Alliance from its very beginning. In 2004, billionaire socialists Herb and Marion Sandler established America Votes in partnership with even richer socialist donor George Soros “to coordinate various get-out-the-vote drives during the 2004 election.” When the Democracy Alliance was formalized the following year, the Sandlers sent their son-in-law Steven Phillips as their representative to the October 2005 meeting at the Chateau Elan near Atlanta, Georgia.

Soon after, Steve Phillips became a Democracy Alliance board member, then board secretary. Phillips’ wife also served on the Democracy Alliance board until recently.

Several Democracy Alliance members have chipped in big money to the Gillum campaign, almost certainly on Steve Phillips’ recommendation.

Andrew Gillum raised $765,000 in his first month as a Democratic candidate for governor. Gillum’s principal campaign committee raised $243,000 and his Forward Florida political committee raised $522,000.

Here is a May 2016 tweet from Andrew Gillum recommending Steve Phillips’ book, “Brown is the New White:”

George Soros gave $100,000 and his son Alex Soros chipped in another $50,000. TV producer and People For The American Way founder Norman Lear (a Democracy Alliance member) gave $50,000 to the committee and actress Jane Fonda contributed $7,000. Steve Phillips personally donated 25,000, while Susan Sandler contributed an unspecified amount.

On May 28, in a move that “could dramatically change the race for Florida governor,” California billionaire and Democracy Alliance member Tom Steyer threw $1 million in organizational and advertising support to the Gillum campaign.

The help from Steyer comes at a crucial time for Gillum, Tallahassee’s mayor, who has struggled with fundraising and who frequently reminds crowds that he’s at a financial disadvantage personally because he’s the only “non-millionaire” in the five-candidate Democratic race, where he’s also the sole African-American candidate…

“As we battle for the heart and soul of this nation, Andrew Gillum is the kind of leader we need on the front lines,” Steyer, president of the youth-organizing group NextGen America, said in a written statement June 2018, calling the contribution an “unprecedented step.” “He’s someone we can trust to do the right thing, to put the people before the powerful, and who is unafraid to stand up for justice, now when we need it most.”

NextGen contributed $500,000 to Gillum’s political committee, Forward Florida, and it’s setting aside another $500,000 to pay for digital ads and 50 paid field staffers harnessing the power of 620 volunteers who were already organizing in Florida ahead of the November elections.

Coincidentally, Tom Steyer was ending his career in Stanford University student politics just as Steve Phillips was beginning his.

Andrew Gillum’s gubernatorial run should be viewed in the context of two other Steve Phillips/Susan Sandler-backed races – Stacey Abrams for Georgia governor and Ben Jealous for Maryland governor.

Phillips and his Democracy Alliance friends are prepared to spend big money to see black governors in those three states.

From Politico:

“Susan Sandler, a top Democratic Party donor, is organizing an effort to raise between $12 million and $15 million to back Abrams and to register and turn out an additional 250,000 irregular voters in Georgia. ‘After a couple hundred years, it’s time to elect a black woman governor,’ said Steve Phillips, Sandler’s husband. Phillips said top donors could launch similar efforts for Gillum in Florida and Jealous in Maryland ..

Stacey Abrams and Ben Jealous easily won their primaries. Can Andrew Gillum make it a Steve Phillips trifecta?

Steve Phillips’ PowerPAC.org is also throwing its weight behind Gillum.

PowerPAC.org is committed to supporting the civic engagement of voters of color and the election of progressive leaders of color. Much of our strategy is outlined in the book “Brown Is The New White,” written by our founder Steve Phillips. Our work involves researching where votes of color can make a difference in races, how demographic trends can affect change in public policy and leadership, and how civic engagement methodologies can change how campaigns are run…

Most recently we worked with grassroots activists in Georgia to encourage African American voters to turn out in the CD-6 race in Georgia and to build support for Stacey Abrams’ race for Governor there. As we move forward, we will deepen our work in California as well as launching a multi-state initiative to support gubernatorial candidates of color in GA (Stacey Abrams), MD (Benjamin Jealous), AZ (David Garcia), CA (John Chiang ), and FL (Andrew Gillum).

Additionally, we are in the process of building a fundraising engine to drive donations by average citizens in low dollar amounts. We think that there is power in crowd-sourcing the support of our communities of color. The voice of the growing economic power of the communities of color must be heard and their power felt.

Lifelong revolutionary Steve Phillips is backing Abrams, Gillum and Jealous for good reason. Phillips’ purpose is to realize a goal set back in his student Maoist days – the New American Majority. Phillips understands that “candidates of color” at the top of the ticket will lift the minority vote. That will help flip Congressional and Senate seats in several key states – including Florida.

Steve Phillips understands that a “Rainbow Coalition” of minorities already has the numbers to form the “New American Majority.” If Steve Phillips and his billionaire socialist friends can build that coalition sufficiently in 2018 and 2020, they will become a permanent new American ruling class.
