The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”
The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”…

I would ask the President why he is punishing our veterans for protecting us? Does he think that this is his way of getting back at our military personnel? Does he think that our military will shrink and go away if he just makes it hard enough on military families? What disgusting and immoral behavior!
The American people have slogged through his financial mess which has fallen squarely on their backs and he has done everything he can to destroy small and big business alike. We have watched over 7 weeks his steam rolling of socialism into our government and the tremendous amount of debt he has laid at the American public’s feet. We have cringed at the high taxes he is proposing that will surely be the death knell of America if he implements them all – witness The Nationwide Tax Day Tea Parties happening everywhere across the country…
Now he does the most damning thing I can think of – he outright attacks the boys and girls who have shed their blood for our freedoms. I don’t think he will get away from this one unscathed – it goes way too far. I commend The American Legion for standing up to this travesty. Will we stand for this? With a resounding ‘hell no‘ should be our chorus. Contact your congressmen and women and tell them how you feel. This, my friends, is tantamount to aiding and abetting the enemy…
