The “Doc Fix” Is Not In

Cost matters: The cost of health care remains the central issue in the health reform debate, and that’s why the news this week was so bad for leaders on both sides of Capitol Hill.

The Very Busy Politicians in Washington DC
Rep. Ron Paul

With a faltering economy, multiple wars, and the approaching demise of the dollar’s reserve status, there are more than enough problems to keep politicians in Washington working day and night. In between handing out cash for clunkers and nationalizing healthcare, the administration is busy sending more troops overseas, escalating existing wars, and seeking out excuses to start new wars.

MUTH’S TRUTHS

A few weeks ago I had the unfortunate experience of Republican U.S. Senate “candidate” Mike Wiley finding my email address. The Flake from Florida proceeded to send me campaign flapdoodle peppered occasionally with conventional mainstream conservative wisdom. But it quickly became obvious that this guy wasn’t just from another state, but another planet.

Our pal Jon Ralston discovered this inalienable truth for himself yesterday while interviewing Wiley on his “Face to Face” television program in Las Vegas.

Explaining his rationale for doing so this morning, Jon writes: “So we have decided – for now – to allow the (lesser-known candidates) who actually are running campaigns to have their shot on ‘Face to Face.’ The results have been occasionally surprising but generally frightening.”

Hmm. I wonder which category Wiley fell into?

“(T)he nadir of this experiment came Thursday when Mike Wiley, a former talk show host, was explaining why it was only logical that UFOs existed,” Ralston writes. “I asked him if he had seen one. Yes, he had. I asked him if he had ever been taken on one. No, he replied. . . . One of the (production studio) crew said he expected Ashton Kutcher to appear any moment and tell me I had been Punk’d. I wanted to commit hara-kiri on the air.”

I’m…shocked. Beam me up, Scotty!
