Bobby Rush
Bobby Rush is a far-left Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives, representing the 1st district of Illinois. As of 1969, Rush served as Minister of Defense for the Illinois Black Panther Party. Around this time, he was listed as a sponsor of the Socialist Workers Party-led GI Civil Liberties Defense Committee.
In November 1989, Rush and his wife served on the Tribute Committee for a tribute dinner hosted by Communist Party USA-front, the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights.
In 1997, along with fellow Congressmen Ron Dellums and Jesse Jackson, Jr., Rush offered support to a campaign opposing the government’s ruling to refuse hundreds of U.S. youth a license to attend the 14th World Festival of Youth and Students in Havana, Cuba.
In 1998, Rush was gearing up for a tilt at the Chicago mayoralty. Chicago Democratic Socialists of America endorsed him in his campaign. When later that year Rush ran for Congress, Chicago DSA recommended him as worthy of a vote.
In 2000, Rush served as Co-Chairperson on the welcoming committee for the Chicago Memorial Service for Richard Criley, a long-time activist with the Communist Party USA and a leader of the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights.
In 2002, along with Rev. Willie Barrow; Katie Jordan, president, Chicago Coalition of Labor Union Women; Tom Balanoff, president, SEIU Local 1; and others, Rush was a sponsor of a Peoples Weekly World banquet honoring Kathy Kelly and CPUSA leader, Ishmael Flory. (more…)
