Gore’s Al Jazeera Deal Now a Major Scandal

While the lawsuit over the sale of Al Gore’s Current TV to Al Jazeera is making headlines, a close reading of the legal complaint provides additional evidence that a congressional investigation into the curious transaction is urgently needed and necessary.

The media executive who claims to have arranged the sale says the idea was to make the Terror TV channel “palatable to U.S. lawmakers,” a formulation that suggests foreign lobbying on Capitol Hill in order to protect the $500 million payoff to Gore and other owners and investors in Current TV.

The suit says that media executive John Terenzio also proposed smoothing things over with “pro-Israel factions, cable operators and, most importantly, the American public.”

The other controversial aspect of the deal, as noted by Fox News contributor Lisa Daftari, is that “Al Jazeera America” has announced plans for bureaus in eight cities, including Detroit, Michigan, and that “Detroit, Michigan is a large ex-pat community of Muslim-Americans where [Jihadist] sleeper cells have been detected.”

Detroit has been called the Arab capital of North America.

Because of the danger of inciting Arabs and Muslims into anti-American violence, Accuracy in Media has called on the House Homeland Security Committee, under the chairmanship of Texas Republican Michael McCaul, to investigate the sale and look at the evidence that the channel is a foreign terrorist entity that can be outlawed on U.S. soil. He has refused to do so.

The Al Gore lawsuit constitutes another reason why Congress has to investigate. If Al Gore had paid Terenzio for his services, as the suit alleges, it is likely that the nature of the deal and the private discussions that went into it would never have been made public. Now, however, all of this is on the public record and more damaging details, if Gore doesn’t settle the lawsuit, will almost certainly come out.

The revelations demonstrate how sensitive the deal was in the first place. Terenzio says one of his objectives was to develop “strategies to overcome Al Jazeera’s negative image and make Al Jazeera acceptable to American viewers.” Many members of the public associate Al Jazeera with the videos of Osama bin Laden, the architect of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America. Al Jazeera aired those videos, as well as interviews with bin Laden and other al-Qaeda leaders, and is today still regarded as the voice of the pro-terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.

In short, the plan was for a massive propaganda campaign to play down the channel’s ties to al Qaeda and other terrorist groups, and its financing by the pro-Jihadist Arab government of Qatar.

Terenzio says he came up with “Al Jazeera America,” a name obviously designed to mask the foreign and Arab nature of the propaganda channel.

The revelations in the suit follow reports that the new channel has been feverishly hiring expensive K Street lobbying firms to stop Congress from investigating the deal, and is hiring dozens of American journalists.

Terenzio says in his lawsuit that he “created a sophisticated PowerPoint presentation” describing the deal and that the structure was “based in large measure on the strategies developed by Terenzio in adapting CCTV [China Central television] for American distribution.”

CCTV is the Communist-government funded Chinese state TV channel that has also penetrated the U.S. media market, although in a more limited manner than Al Jazeera.

It appears that Terenzio is an acknowledged expert at getting media access for foreign propaganda channels. His background is quite impressive, as reflected in his official biography. A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, he is described as “a visiting lecturer at the Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications graduate program in Los Angeles, and at the Tsinghua University School of Journalism in Beijing.”

In the case of Current TV, his idea was to get Al Jazeera into 40-50 million homes through the acquisition of an existing cable channel, Current TV, an unprecedented development that Terenzio maintains he was not compensated for. It is because of this media coup and the failure of Al Gore and the other owners and investors to pay him for his services that Terenzio has launched his lawsuit demanding at least $5 million in damages.

While the suit proceeds in the courts, the legal questions about the deal provide another opportunity for Congress to exercise oversight and investigate the curious transaction. But the fact that prominent Democrats are involved makes it politically sensitive for Republicans who want to avoid confrontations.

The suit says Terenzio made his presentation to Richard Blum, husband of Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, and an investor in Current TV. The suit says that Blum and others involved in Current TV were “concerned about the prospect of losing their shirts” and wanted to find a buyer for their little-watched channel.

The suit says that it was believed that Al Gore would find a sale to Al Jazeera “politically unappealing” but that Blum promised to present it to him.

“Plaintiffs are informed and believe that Gore was adamant in his rejection of the proposal to sell his liberal environmentally friendly network to the oil rich Qataris who owned Al Jazeera,” it says.

Al Gore apparently changed his mind. Perhaps the $500 million price tag, with $100 million going to him personally, was a factor.

When the sale was announced, Terenzio says he was caught off-guard and that he had not been informed in advance about it, even though he devised the sale and conceived the name “Al Jazeera America.” He says Current TV “insiders” concede his role in the transaction.

Jerry Kenney, a critic of Al Jazeera, says, “I have requested a copy of that PowerPoint presentation from his lawyer. I would love to see his game plan of how to make propaganda from a country that denies free speech to its own citizens and possibly provides material support to terrorists, ‘palatable’ to Congress and the American public.”

Kenney says Congress should request a copy of this PowerPoint as well.

The new developments add impetus to the effort by Rep. Tim Murphy for answers as to what the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) did or did not do regarding the deal.

Please urge Rep. Murphy to accelerate his investigation of the Al Jazeera deal by calling his office at 202-225-2301. Also, it is long overdue for Rep. Michael McCaul to do his duty and announce hearings into this curious transaction. His Committee on Homeland Security can be reached at 202-226-8417.

Logically challenged RINO Sen. John McCain fails to understand the rights of American citizens.

Republicans can blame no one but themselves for helping get Barack Hussein Obama elected. Twice. I’m not going to rehash Mitt Romney’s conscientious objector attitude wherein he failed to unseat Obama because he was afraid to fight him. Obama’s first challenger, Arizona Senator John McCain, only won his primary battles against some real Republicans with the help of Obama’s loyal news media brigade. Then McCain went on to show just how bad the country club mentality in the Senate could be when he proclaimed to a campaign audience that Obama was a good person and he would never say anything bad about a fellow member of the Senate. Such is the admiration held by RINOs, Republicans In Name Only, for Democrats that you can hardly tell them apart. So it becomes very obvious when a RINO like McCain talks about a real Republican like Kentucky Senator Rand Paul with so much disgust that you can’t believe they both sit on the same side of the Senate chamber. And when the subject turns to the growing threat of a tyrannical government turning against its own citizens, it shows just how much a RINO like John McCain is incapable of thinking about the consequences of his own actions.

We have all seen at one time or another simple puzzles that test logic. The kind that ask: “What is the next number in this sequence, 2, 4, 6, 8, _”? Or, “Fill in the missing number, 5, 10, 15, _, 25”? If you don’t understand these tests the answers are, 10 for the first one and 20 for the second one. But when RINO Senator McCain attacks Republican Senator Paul saying, “No one is going to be struck by a Hellfire missile from a drone that is not an enemy combatant,” McCain said. “That is a fact.” – McCain seems oblivious to the facts that have led up to the assertion that any American could be attacked and killed on U.S. soil by their own government for no other reason than that same government had declared that citizen to be an enemy of the government. Even though McCain voted to approve of a chain of events that have brought us to that point. So now we need to test our logic and see what the next number is in the sequence.

There are lots of conspiracy theories regarding the Muslim hijacking of four airliners on September 11, 2001 and the attacks that followed. I don’t believe those theories. But one fact was revealed in the subsequent Congressional hearings cannot be ignored. Those 19 radical Islamic terrorists attended flight schools in the United States to learn how to operate Boeing 767 aircraft and were not employed by any airline and the government was aware of it and did nothing about it.

Three years before the 9-11 Congressional hearings concluded in August 2004, there was an immediate reaction to those attacks in Congress and that was the hastily drawn up Patriot Act that was written, passed and signed into law only 7 weeks after Sept. 11, 2001. Back then, with the Republican controlled Congress everyone knew who the terrorists were so no thought was given to the vague language that seemed to include every citizen as possible subjects of suspicion. The Patriot Act gave the government increased powers of surveillance over every American. With the intent to locate, observe and identify radical terrorists like the Muslim group that carried out the 9-11 attacks, the consequences of the Patriot Act greatly weakened key parts of the Bill of Rights that guaranteed protections for all Americans. Senator John McCain gave it his support.

*** Federal and State law enforcement on fishing expeditions, searching telephone, email, medical, financial, and other records looking for a needle in a haystack – and abridging the freedom of law abiding citizens everywhere.
*** Warrantless searches and roving wiretaps, paying telephone providers for access to TRILLIONS of phone records and ignoring Fourth Amendment protections.
*** Broad powers for the Treasury Department and Immigrations Department to rewrite regulations, access records, and conduct proceedings in secret.
*** Holding American citizens in violation of their constitutional rights simply because someone in the government has declared them an “enemy combatant.”
*** Vast amounts of electronic data on virtually every American swept up by insider arrangements and purchases from phone companies, airlines and other businesses afraid to say no to a government “request.”

Then in the last 4 year term of George W. Bush, while Americans slept away content that they were safe and secure, the leftist mainstream news media begun a non-stop campaign to bash the Republicans in an effort to turn control of Congress over to the Democrats in the next elections. In 2006 they succeeded and the Democrats plans to destroy our economy with the housing and banking changes were passed. Senator John McCain gave it his support.

In the guise of fighting terrorism the government began to direct its attention to what appeared to be everyone but the terrorists who were behind the 9-11 attacks. In fact under the direction of Barack Hussein Obama, the words Terrorism, Muslim and Islam were stricken from the instructions issued by the Dept. of Justice to the F.B.I. Then in 2009, one year after Barack Hussein Obama and the Democratic Socialists of America took control of our government, the Dept. of Homeland Security issued a controversial document: (U//FOUO) Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment. It is available here: http://www.fas.org/irp/eprint/rightwing.pdf and the government finally identified who it considered to be the real threat to America, conservatives who supported the 2nd Amendment, Pro-Life groups and third party candidate supporters. And Senator John McCain gave his support.

On December 16, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama began his attack on U.S. sovereignty when he issued Executive Order 13524 (click to read full text below from the Federal Register). That Executive Order removed all restrictions previously in force and now gave Interpol complete immunity against U.S. citizens and U.S. law enforcement on U.S. soil. What this means is that Interpol now has greater authority over Americans within our own country than our own police agencies. The loss of U.S. Sovereignty means that with the removal of previous restrictions enacted by President Reagan with his Executive Order 12425 issued in 1983, Interpol now has diplomatic immunity and is not restrained by the power of the Bill of Rights or the United States Constitution.

Then, at the insistence of Barack Hussein Obama, the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011 included new authorities to the government to arrest and detain without trial or legal counsel any American that the government felt was a threat. And those provisions were reauthorized in the NDAA the following year. And Senator John McCain gave it his support. In 2011 RINO Speaker John Boehner and RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell collaborated with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in a backroom pact to extend the so-called “Patriot” Act. And Senator John McCain gave it his support.

Waiting a few years till the ripples of discontent had subsided and citizens memories faded we then have another bill, S.1867 which passed in the Senate in 2011. The National Defense Authorization Act bill contains the following section. SEC. 1031. AFFIRMATION OF AUTHORITY OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DETAIN COVERED PERSONS PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF MILITARY FORCE. None other than the ACLU has described this as: “The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill. The bill was drafted in secret by Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) and passed in a closed-door committee meeting, without even a single hearing.” Meanwhile, news circulated among conservative bloggers, spurred on by the U.S. Army posting job bulletins for Internment Specialists, that FEMA had constructed several Internment Camps on U.S. soil.

Then the explosive news came out that the government was going to operate Predator Drones in the skies over American soil. And coincidentally, at the same time some flag-ranked military Generals had been forced into retirement because they would not agree with the White House to follow orders to shoot at and kill American citizens on U.S. soil. It doesn’t take a whole lot of intelligence to see the gradual progression of tototalitarian authority being acquired by the government and the gradual loss of freedoms being taken away from the citizens. RINO John McCain should at least acknowledge this as fact since he played such a part in all of it.

Now the icing on the cake appears to be the revelation in the past few days that this same Democrat who occupies the White House, who was himself a Muslim, mentored by a Communist and was close friends with known domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, has sought out and obtained his authority from the Justice Dept. to kill Americans on U.S. soil without benefit of due process or trial. While masking his intent to kill those who plot terrorism, the very definition they use for terrorist includes those conservatives who oppose him. This same Democrat, who has declared the elected members of Congress to be a hindrance to his plans and has decided that he also has the authority to create his own laws by Executive Order, is, by every known dictionary description, a dictator.

And one Republican, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, stood up in the Senate and filibustered for 13 hours to force the Attorney General to clarify the vaguely worded letter he received from Attorney General Eric Holder on March 4th. And for his efforts he is attacked by a senior RINO Senator named John McCain.

And finally Republican Senator Rand Paul received the acknowledgement he had demanded from The Attorney General that Barack Hussein Obama has no authority to use drones to kill Americans on U.S. soil. While this clarifies that Barack Hussein Obama has no authority to use drones to kill Americans on U.S. soil it does not remove the previous authority for the government to attack American citizens, arrest them and detain them without trial.

Seems to me that RINO Senator John McCain has a great lapse of memory besides his failings to see how gradually the rights of American citizens have been destroyed by his own actions and those of his like-minded Democrat friends.

Idaho lawmakers must first acknowledge their dependency on federal funding, and with each acceptance of federal funding our lawmakers must recognize that they are directly sanctioning the systematic loss of our Constitutional protections.

It is vital that all Idaho Representatives immediately acknowledge the fundamental risks of accepting Obama Care exchanges, this programs expansion of Medicaid will lead to greater long-term costs, and permit no flexibility for Idaho’s existing Medicaid program. Essentially our lawmakers will be fulfilling this administration’s over reaching goal, creating this states fundamental need for ever-increasing federal dependence.

Keeping the Fruits of Your Labors

This past week upon completion of a locksmith job for a small car dealership that specializes in wholesale used vehicle purchases and sales, when it came time to get paid I was directed to their office where a check had already been written; all that was needed was a copy of the receipt which I exchanged for the check.

“I like getting paid,” said with a smile and a wink. It was time for me to be on my way, putting the check in the receipt binder.

Back when I was an apprentice locksmith working for knowledge rather than taking home any money, the fruits of my labors couldn’t be recorded in a green columnar ledger sheet; but they couldn’t be taxed by the government either. It takes years to accumulate a working knowledge, how to successfully complete a locksmith job isn’t always the same as a profitable locksmith job; staying in business requires the ability to know the difference.

I remember the first ‘paying job’ as a locksmith as if it were yesterday. It was at the end of the day when the call came in; a simple case of car keys being lost, a job which I’d become proficient at so the owner of the shop where I was apprenticing threw me a bone, so to speak.

“Why don’t you go take care of this one on your way home, it’s all yours.” That statement alone showed a considerable amount of trust in my newly acquired abilities, enough to trust me with one of his customers along with my putting a few dollars in my pocket.

The job went smoothly as a replacement key was produced; a certain feeling of satisfaction overtook me for stepping up to the challenge without having my mentor standing over my shoulder to make sure the job was done properly. Driving down the road toward home, having traveled several miles; it dawned on me, I never collected any money.

All those times I’d produced keys in the past in the capacity of locksmith apprentice, the money part of the transaction was always handled by someone else. A broad sweeping grin came over me as I realized, “Hey, I’m still an apprentice.” Some folks would have brow beat themselves for having done something so dumb; but I’d been so elated for completing a job on my own that putting a few dollars in my wallet wasn’t that important.

Fast forward some thirty plus years and that broad sweeping smile wouldn’t have had a chance of appearing; I like to get paid, that’s why I show up in the first place. The folks who call my business, explaining they need a locksmith expect to pay for those services; they understand my services aren’t free, at least most of them do.

There’s an element within our society which has been brought up believing the world owes them simply ‘because’; call it the entitlement mentality if you like. The most current tag being used to identify them is Low Information Voters. Politicians find these folks; change that to read, politicians seek out these folks as a means of getting elected over and over.

Promises of free cell phones, welfare assistance for housing, food stamp programs and the list goes on. The problem with having all these government assisted entitlement programs; they aren’t free, someone else is paying for these programs.

For every dollar awarded to a person who didn’t earn it there is a hard worker who had his wallet picked by the government, a worker who didn’t get to keep the fruits of his/her labors.

These folks are not apprentice laborers working for knowledge, folks who will go home with a broad smile on their faces for having accomplished a task put before them. Quite to the contrary, most of these individuals would have preferred to put that money to good use in their own way rather than have the government decide who needed it more.

Somewhere along the way America has gotten off the road to prosperity and taken a different path, The Road to Serfdom, as Freidrick von Hayek spelled out in his book.

“We have in effect undertaken to dispense with the forces which produced unforeseen results and to replace the impersonal and anonymous mechanism of the market by collective and ‘conscious’ direction of all social forces to deliberately chosen goals.” (translation: Socialism)

In high school we read Shakespeare’s, Julius Caesar, with the famous warning, “Beware the Ides of March,” a foretelling of doom. Ignoring the warning turned out to be… wait for it… Brutal. (sorry, couldn’t resist)

Had Shakespeare been writing in our day perhaps his warning would have been, “Beware the Ides of April,” as we prepare to meet our federal tax obligations; at least those who actually pay taxes. April 15th can be equally Brutal.

What about the huge percentage of folks who are permanently on the dole, those who have figured out a way to let their neighbors pay in order to provide them with what the government considers a sustainable existence? I’m not talking about those we desire to take care of out of the goodness of our hearts, doing the ‘Christian thing’ so the poor and the truly needy are taken care of. No, I’m pointing my finger at the lazy, corrupt and worthless baggage we as taxpayers have hanging around our necks like a huge Albatross.

For America to survive, much less prosper, we need to get out of the ditch of Socialism which runs parallel to the Road to Serfdom. The dead weight which is dragging us down towards financial Armageddon has brought down countless other nations over the history of mankind; what makes any of us think we are exempt from the laws of nature?

The bill has come due and the check needs to be written, nature expects and demands to be paid; a simple lesson on the fruits of our labors.

Courageous Tea Party Senator Rand Paul confirmed my statement that no one can foresee the future well enough to be totally fatalistic. Since the presidential election, discouraged patriots have been saying we have lost the country. Obama holds all the cards. All hope of restoring our country back to the vision of our Founding Fathers is gone. Game over.

As a Christian, I have encouraged patriots to keep the faith, stay on the battle field defending what is right. Situations can turn on a dime. Who could have foreseen that Rand Paul would challenge Goliath and win? I wonder if this latest Obama Administration attack on the Constitution (wanting the right to kill Americans on American soil without a trial) was their jump-the-shark moment? And quite frankly, why shouldn’t Obama feel emboldened to do whatever he pleases including deciding who lives and who dies? Low info voters have sent Obama the message that as long as he keeps his vow to take care of them and punish the rich, they do not care about losing freedom or him shredding the Constitution. Along with the mainstream media firmly in his back pocket, it is understandable that Obama would think himself invincible – a supreme dictator – a king.

By attempting to secure unprecedented unconstitutional authority to kill Americans at will, Obama may have pushed the envelope a bit too far in the minds of the American people.

Also, I have noticed that a few in the mainstream media are criticizing Obama for closing down the White House tours to hype his bogus pain of sequestration.

And here is another breath of fresh air confirming that the country has not gone totally reprobate. The Bible miniseries is enjoying huge numbers, even beating the zombies.
