TODAY’S NN&V HEADLINES

  • Obama-Care Passes, Lone Republican Vote Bought Off by White House (Chuck Muth) – The first stage of a full-blown government take-over of the nation’s health care system passed in the United States House of Representatives 220-215 late Saturday night.
  • Angle says unemployment numbers are wake-up call to failed policy – Sharron Angle (R-NV), a conservative Republican running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Harry Reid (D-NV), says the country woke up this week to a loud thud.
  • Nancy & Sluggo Forced to Regroup (Mike Zahara) – How Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid regroup after Tuesday’s election losses without looking like they’re regrouping?
  • Government Creates No Jobs, Unions Kill Jobs (Wayne Allyn Root) – The national unemployment rate hit 10.2% this week. What a surprise! Actually it may have come as a great surprise to “the Messiah” aka President Barack Obama, but it came as no surprise to anyone who understands economics. My old college classmate Obama is not among that group.
  • Possible Members of Tax Hike Study Committee Grows (Sean Whaley/Nevada News Bureau) – The list of Nevadans under consideration as members of a “Nevada Vision Stakeholder Group” to participate in a review of the state’s revenue structure has now expanded to 85.
  • Amodei’s Online Troubles Continue (Dullard Mush) – If you are going to make all kinds of changes to your online campaign, for U.S. Senate no less, then shouldn’t it be for the better? And done correctly?
  • CONSERVA-CALENDAR: A listing of events this week and beyond of possible interest to conservative voters and citizens.

MUTH’S TRUTHS

  • Save the Date: February 6, 2010. Citizen Outreach tribute dinner honoring Ronald Regan’s 99th birthday in Las Vegas. Details to follow….
  • Want a look at the “public option” when it comes to health care? Consider the current “rationing” of the swine flu vaccine. You can’t simply go to your local doctor and pay for the shot and walk out protected. No, you have to be in a targeted “high risk” group as determined, not by your doctor, but by your local health district. In Las Vegas, government Dr. Lawrence Sands, chief health officer for the Southern Nevada Health District just gave “permission” to private doctors to administer the vaccine to persons between 24-60, but only if they have certain “chronic health conditions.” Welcome to the world of Obamacare rationing.
  • A new study by the Tax Foundation which uses Census data to identify the budget priorities of each state as a percentage of total spending has some real eye openers, including the fact that Nevada is spending right around the national average as a percentage of its budget on K-12 education. Oh, and we’re #1 on the percentage of spending on public safety – FINALLY at the top of a good list. Unfortunately, we’re #2 on the percentage we spend on government administration. So much for the notion there isn’t anything left in the budget to cut, eh? Scalpel!

KIDS HAPPY HOUR & DECK PARTY THIS WEEK!

Citizen Outreach Foundation is hosting our first-ever Kids Happy Hour & Deck Party on November 10th from 5 to 7 pm at Joe’s Crab Shack in Green Valley.

Tuesday nights are Kids Night at Joe’s, so kids eat for $2! Better yet, parents have the opportunity to enjoy cheap drink specials, including $3 margaritas and $2 mixed drinks!

Joe’s is roping off a special section for us on their large deck, so you’ll be able to keep a watchful eye out while the kids play on the on-site playground while sitting back and enjoying adult conversation. We are even bringing in a clown to provide entertainment for the little ones!

Please RSVP to [email protected] with your name and the number in your family that will be attending. We need to know how much of the deck Joe’s needs for rope off for our event.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

  • “I know this is a familiar lamentation. But the greatest epidemic in Nevada (and America) is not H1N1 – it is rampant ignorance, thus making the state’s electorate (and surely this is true across the U.S.) ripe for the pickings of skilled consultants and charlatans.” – Columnist Jon Ralston
  • “Sen. Tom Coburn, the Oklahoma Republican who developed a close friendship with President Obama when they served together in the Senate, is threatening to have the entire health care bill read on the Senate floor. Senior Senate Democratic aides had heard Coburn was considering having potentially thousands of pages read aloud in effort to stall passage. Coburn’s office confirmed that he is indeed thinking about having the bill read.” – Politico
  • “A major reason for the different outcomes in Tuesday’s two gay marriage votes was apparently the use of the term ‘marriage.’ A Maine law granting gay marriage rights used the word — and that law was overturned by voters. A Washington State law didn’t use the word and survived. . . . Given that Maine is now the 31st state in a row to reject gay marriage, perhaps it’s time for supporters to regroup. They should decide if they want changes in law make a difference in people’s lives — or symbolic battles that they seem destined to lose.” – John Fund, Political Diary, 11/6/09
  • “The (Nevada Democrat Party), which might as well be renamed The Reid Party considering its funding and its main goal, created a piece that encapsulates the entire campaign for the Senate majority leader: ‘Powerful. Determined. Making the Difference for Nevada.’ It’s quite the piece…(and is) surely designed to work in synergy with those Reid ads now on the air. Now we know what you can do if you raise $12 million.” – Columnist Jon Ralston
