TODAY’S NN&V HEADLINES

  • New Poll: Sandoval Wins, Goodman Places, Rory Shows (Sean Whaley/Nevada News Bureau) – If Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman runs as an independent candidate for governor, he would pull more support from Democrat Rory Reid than Republican Brian Sandoval in a three-way match up, a Nevada News Bureau poll shows.
  • Guber Derby: Goodman’s Best Bet is to Go Rogue (Chuck Muth) – If Las Vega Mayor Oscar Goodman is looking for a path to the governor’s mansion, his best option may be to “go rogue” and run as an independent rather than compete against the Reid Dynasty in a Democrat primary race.
  • 10 Things You Should Know About Reid’s Health Care Bill (Sen. Mitch McConnell) – Democrats have spent six weeks behind closed doors putting together a trillion-dollar experiment in government-run health care that raises premiums, raises taxes, and cuts Medicare. Here are 10 things that every American should know about this bill.
  • When Harry Met Mary (Mark Noonan) – On Thursday it was reported that in return for her support of Reid’s health care bill, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) would receive $100 million in taxpayer funds. These funds were to be used to buy the support of Louisianans who increasingly view Democrats – such as Landrieu – as part of the problem rather than the solution. If you thought that was lowest Reid could go, you thought wrong.
  • Why a Vote for Universal Healthcare is a Vote for Political Suicide (Wayne Allyn Root) – I’ll keep this short and simple. Our soldiers are dying in Afghanistan every day. Yet, Obama appears in no hurry to decide how best to support and protect them.

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

I’d be hard-pressed to comment on the new “Louisiana Purchase” better than our friend Rich Galen of Mullings.com, so….

“As you know, Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-Nev) cajoled, coerced, and co-opted Senators Mary Landrieu (D-La) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark) into adding the 59th and 60th necessary votes to prevent a GOP filibuster of Reid’s health reform bill.

“Reid and Obama Administration officials relied on the time honored method (used by Republicans and Democrats) of getting recalcitrant Members to vote a certain way: Bribery which, in the real world, is a felony but in Washington it is called ‘hardball.’

“In Sen. Landrieu’s case the bribe was $300 million in Medicaid benefits to Louisiana. It’s not even a close call. According to the website Total Criminal Defense, ‘Bribery is an attempt to influence another person’s actions, usually a government or public official employee, by offering a benefit in exchange for the desired decision.’

“Three hundred million in return for a vote to proceed. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…

“Landrieu caved like a sand castle at high tide.”

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Those who say (2008 GOP presidential nominee John) McCain regretted choosing (Sarah Palin as his running mate) have their history wrong. The excitement Pain generated briefly rescued a campaign that couldn’t, in the long term, be saved. But what Palin didn’t understand is that McCain picked her as his running mate not because she was a maverick – but because picking her made McCain look like a maverick.” – Columnist Mike Littwin
