TODAY’S NN&V HEADLINES

  • George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation (George Washington) – Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor…
  • The Real Story of Thanksgiving (Rush Limbaugh) – Okay, time for the real story of Thanksgiving as written by me in my book “See, I Told You So!” We’re on Chapter Six here: “Dead White Guys or What Your History Books Never Told You,” page 70.
  • Plymouth Rock: America’s First Experiment with Socialism (Joseph Farah) – There are many myths and misconceptions surrounding the people responsible for the American Thanksgiving tradition. Contrary to popular opinion, the Pilgrims didn’t wear buckles on their shoes or hats. They weren’t teetotalers, either. They smoked tobacco and drank beer. And, most importantly, their first harvest festival and subsequent “thanksgivings” weren’t held to thank the local natives for saving their lives.
  • To Whom Do We Give Thanks? (Newt Gingrich) – On the south side of the Rotunda in the United States Capitol Building is a painting titled The Embarkation of the Pilgrims. The painting depicts the deck of the ship as it departs from Holland for the New World in 1620. Look, and you will see that the pilgrims are praying.
  • Oakland Raiders finally return to Thanksgiving menu (Steve Corkran/Mercury News) – The game was played 39 years ago, to the day, yet Hall of Fame center Jim Otto remembers in vivid detail the grass condition, the steel beams supporting the stadium and that the Raiders lost a game they should have won.

MINI-MUTHS TRUTHS

  • Sen. John Ensign is scheduled to speak with conservative talk-show host Alan Stock on Monday morning at 8:00 am on KXNT 840 AM in Las Vegas. Ought to be interesting, especially since Stock called on Ensign to resign over the Hampton scandal a few weeks ago. If you live outside of Vegas, you can listen in live via the Internet at http://www.kxnt.com.
  • As the government continues to ration the swine flu vaccine, Clark County reported three more swine flu deaths yesterday. Give thanks today as we slide further down the razor blade of life towards ObamaCare!
  • Timothy L. Redmen was convicted and sentenced to death in November 1990 for fatally shooting Max Biederman. “Biederman’s face was mutilated with an iron railing, his hands cut off and his body left in a trash bin,” the Associate Press reports. “Biederman’s hands were found in a bag in the desert.” Redman hung himself in his cell in Ely last week. Something else to be thankful for today.
  • Rumors that Assemblyman Ty Cobb (R-Reno) is mulling a run for state Treasurer instead of state Senate District 4 are not true, Cobb’s campaign informs me.
  • GOP senatorial candidate Sharron Angle went on the attack yesterday, writing that Sue Lowden “donated thousands of dollars to elect Harry Reid in the past.” True. Way back in the 80s, Lowden and her husband donated a total of $8,000 over a period of ten years. But what Sharron neglected to acknowledge was that after entering politics in the early 90s, Sue and her husband have donated over a quarter million dollars to Nevada Republican candidates and the Republican Party, probably more than ALL of the other GOP candidates running against Reid put together. Cheap shot, Sharron.
  • Happy Thanksgiving!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

  • “The Ensign affair, with its $90,000 pay-offs disguised as severance from his parents to the cuckolded husband and wife employees that pretend to be gifts, is mysterious in only one way to me. The quiet Mrs. Hampton. She’s mysterious, that Cindy. . . . So Cindy, what gives? I say it’s time to go on The View! Oprah!” – Lynda Obst in The Huffington Post
  • “In the 1950s and ’60s, federal aid to education was a Democratic initiative. It has now been joined by GOP geniuses like Gibbons. That doesn’t make it bipartisan. It just makes it a disaster with a broader base. Rather than expanding federal education mandates, Congress should be repealing them. Students should come first, and submitting to more federal mandates that subvert local policies will only damage them.” – Reno News & Review editorial
