Congressman Allen West

Statement on June Unemployment Numbers

(WASHINGTON) —– Congressman Allen West (FL-22) released this statement today on the recent report showing unemployment climbed to 9.2 percent with just 18,000 jobs created in June:

“I am once again very disappointed in the alarming unemployment numbers released today. The low number of jobs created in the month of June reaffirms President Barack Obama’s failed economic policies. These numbers send a message to the American people that this is not a “bump in the road”- as the President previously stated- and they should have little faith that the Obama Administration knows how to put Americans back to work.

The United States Congress in 2009 passed the President’s almost 800 billion dollar stimulus package which we now have convincing proof did nothing to prevent the increase in unemployment. Today, the House of Representatives has sent nine real-life, job-creating bills to the U.S. Senate, yet those bills continue to sit, waiting to be voted on. I have introduced my own piece of legislation to do my part to try to reduce unemployment – The Small Business Encouragement Act – read here.

The President continues with an economic policy based on job-killing overregulation, the specter of increased taxes, and the implementation of Obamacare.

How many more months are we going to see this stagnant job growth before President Obama realizes his policies have failed the American people and it is time to go in a different direction?

The solution lies in economic taxation and regulatory policies, which incentivize long-term private sector growth. We must restore confidence, provide access to capital and create fiscal certainty. No more rhetoric on spending, borrowing, and raising taxes.

Our country is in a crisis and time is running out.”
