NBC OMITS ‘UNDER GOD’ FROM PLEDGE DURING U.S. OPEN INTRODUCTION — TWICE
Update:
At 4:36 p.m. ET, NBC issued the following on-air pseudo-apology (rush transcript):
We began our coverage of this final round about three hours ago, and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation’s capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we would like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.
Of course not.
Look into my eyes . . . you are getting sleepy . . . you are not upset . . . you are not upset . . . you will forget that God was ever mentioned in the pledge . . . God is dead . . .
But, no, of course, they didn’t mean for anyone to get UPSET about it, they were hoping nobody would even notice.
They’re not embarrassed that they DID something wrong, they’re embarrassed that they got CAUGHT

“Under God” is the only part that really means anything, IMO.
Instead of pledging allegiance to a flag, which is, after all, only a symbol, I would MUCH prefer that Americans regularly, and PUBLICLY, pledge to uphold THE US CONSTITUTION.
Why? Because that would get people to think of what the Constitution really is all about, and what their responsibilities are with regard to upholding it. Among other things, that means not trying to get the government to do things that the Constitution does not give it the power to do.
