Will Obama Make a Deal for Snowden?

By: Cliff Kincaid
Accuracy in Media

As the fallout continues from NSA leaker Edward Snowden’s first U.S. television interview, there is a dramatic report that “negotiations” are underway to allow the traitor to return to the U.S., in exchange for a form of immunity from prosecution.

The prospect of Snowden getting back into the U.S., and evading prosecution for some, or most, of his crimes has taken on special importance because of the Obama deal to exchange five terrorists from Gitmo for an American soldier who, by most accounts, deserted his fellow soldiers.

An Obama deal to take Snowden back, in negotiations that seem designed to make him look like a hero, cannot be considered out of bounds for an administration that makes deals that support terrorists in the Middle East. The broker in the Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl deal, the government of Qatar, protected terrorists, including the mastermind of 9/11, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, for years. It also sponsors the Al Jazeera channel.

Snowden is “considering” returning home to the U.S. under certain conditions, his lawyer told German news magazine Der Spiegel. The lawyer, leftist radical Wolfgang Kaleck, insisted that “There are negotiations” underway and that “an amicable agreement with the U.S, authorities will be most reasonable” when it is completed.

His bio discloses that Kaleck worked from 2004 until 2008 with the Marxist Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) to pursue frivolous criminal proceedings against members of the U.S. military, including former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. The allegations concerned treatment of suspected terrorists at Guantanamo and U.S. prisons in Iraq that were described by CCR as “war crimes.”

Another German lawyer assisting Snowden is Hans Christian Ströbele, who represented the communist terrorist group, the Baader-Meinhof Gang—also known as the Red Army Faction (RAF). Ströbele had met with Snowden in Moscow.

Despite the media’s best efforts to make the NSA leaker look like a patriotic whistleblower, an NBC News poll finds that only 24 percent back Snowden’s actions. The way NBC phrased the poll probably inflated support for Snowden.

In the poll, NBC asked people if they backed the “release of information about how government agencies collect intelligence data.” That phrase is a gross understatement about the impact of the classified documents Snowden stole from the NSA and released to Glenn Greenwald and others. Even so, only 24 percent in the poll supported the document thief. This compared with 34 percent who disagree with his actions, and another 40 percent who said they didn’t have an opinion.

Among those who say they’ve closely followed the story, NBC said that 49 percent oppose Snowden’s actions and 33 percent support them.

NBC added, “The overall numbers are essentially unchanged from a January 2014 NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, when 23 percent of registered voters said they supported Snowden’s actions, versus 38 percent who opposed them.”

About a year ago, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found that a majority of Americans—53 percent—said that Snowden should be charged with a crime for his leaks.

In fact, Snowden has been charged with various crimes, including espionage and theft of government property. But President Obama failed during his recent foreign policy address to call on Moscow to return the former NSA employee to the U.S. to stand trial. This stance can be explained by the fact that negotiations are underway for his return.

Snowden’s NBC News interview, regarded by most observers as a sympathetic platform for the leaker, has backfired in various ways. Much of the criticism has focused on how Brian Williams failed to press Snowden on his claims. It now appears that Snowden lied to Williams about pursuing various internal channels in order to bring alleged abuses to the attention of NSA authorities.

“I actually did go through channels, and that is documented,” Snowden told Williams. “The NSA has records, they have copies of emails right now to their Office of General Counsel, to their oversight and compliance folks from me raising concerns about the NSA’s interpretations of it—legal authorities. I reported that there were real problems with the way the NSA was interpreting its legal authorities. And I went even further in this, to say that they could be unconstitutional, that they were sort of abrogating our model of government in a way that empowered presidents to override our statutory laws. And this was made very clear. And the response was, more or less, in bureaucratic language, was, ‘You should stop asking questions.’”

The NSA says it found one email inquiry by Snowden to the Office of General Counsel, “asking for an explanation of some material that was in a training course he had just completed.” The NSA says. “The e-mail did not raise allegations or concerns about wrongdoing or abuse, but posed a legal question that the Office of General Counsel addressed.”

The NSA added, “There are numerous avenues that Mr. Snowden could have used to raise other concerns or whistleblower allegations. We have searched for additional indications of outreach from him in those areas and to date have not discovered any engagements related to his claims.”

It appears that Snowden and his followers are hoping to convince young people that, as he claimed on NBC, he has been a true patriot. A comic book “biography” about Snowden has been released by Bluewater Productions. Although it is supposed to be sympathetic, it emphasizes one aspect of his career that hasn’t gotten much attention—signing up for Special Forces. “Most of the people training,” he says of his fellow soldiers, “seemed pumped up about killing Arabs, not helping anyone…” Snowden did not complete his training.

If this exchange is true, it means that Snowden developed a hatred of the U.S. military’s mission that eventually may have taken the form of stealing classified documents in order to damage U.S. military and intelligence operations in the Middle East. Snowden’s handler and mouthpiece, Glenn Greenwald, sympathizes with the Arab/Muslim cause and once called the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America “minimal in scope,” compared to what the U.S. military was supposedly inflicting on the rest of the world.

“Snowden’s experience in the Army would be only one of a series of disillusionments to follow,” the comic book says. In this sense, Snowden sounds like a Bowe Bergdahl-type character.

The end of the comic book, written by Marvel Comics’ “Punisher” writer Valerie D’Orazio, depicts various characters, on the right and left sides of the political spectrum, praising Snowden. These include Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Glenn Beck, Alex Jones, Noam Chomsky, Cornel West, and Jimmy Carter.

“Support for Snowden made strange bedfellows,” it says.

TODAY: Last Chance to Send Two Fearless Conservatives to DC

By: Lloyd Marcus

Alice died. Ann B. Davis, who played the beloved housekeeper Alice, on the TV series, The Brady Bunch died Sunday. The devout and outspoken Christian 88 year old actress was an icon of a kinder gentler America when wholesomeness and goodness were celebrated. http://fxn.ws/1oYHO5J

Today, we live in an anything goes America. For a good reason, the Bible says if a man does not work, he should not eat. And yet, the Obama Administration promotes and encourages government dependency resulting in an unprecedented 47 million Americans on food stamps and over 90 million Americans collecting unemployment; both government programs are riddled with fraud. http://bit.ly/1cWJJCK http://onforb.es/1bg62j1

More and more we are being forced to not just tolerate, but embrace behaviors which are an anathema to our Christian beliefs. http://herit.ag/1bPXqjO Those who dare to say, “no” to the Democratic Party and mainstream media’s anti-Christian agenda are subjected to attacks from governmental agencies or threatened with the loss of their livelihood unless the accused submit to sensitivity training for reprogramming. The Obama regime iron-fist message is clear, either deny your Christian faith or suffer the consequences.

Clearly, this Administration is about lowering moral and behavioral standards, diminishing who we are as Americans.

Meanwhile, man-on-the-street interviews confirm that many are disengaged and are politically clueless to facts as basic as giving a correct answer when asked who is the vice president of the United States. The Obama Administration and MSM exploits the clueless masses by furthering every lie from our liar and chief and his henchmen.

Case in point. Talk about deja vu all over again, Susan Rice is all over TV claiming that we did not negotiate with terrorist for the release of Bergdahl which we clearly did. http://fxn.ws/1rBW7l5 This is the same Obama operative who spread the proven to be a lie narrative that the Benghazi attack was due to a video.

Unquestionably, the trade of Bergdahl for five extremely dangerous Taliban bad guys was a bad deal. http://bit.ly/1pAmVjO The Obama Administration also broke the law in the process by going around congress. But then again, what else is new?

Also in the news, King Obama via his hit squad EPA will announce sweeping new restrictions on the coal industry; all in the name of fighting climate change. Thank God the coal industry is fighting back with lawsuits. http://bit.ly/1dpMGYF

I have sited these few examples of Obama’s fast and furious destruction of America. Anyone paying attention can see the almost daily Administration’s unprecedented power grabs and repeals of our freedom and liberty.

The solution. Obama must be politically neutralized. How do we achieve it? We must send conservatives to Washington who are over the historic aspect of a black man in the White House and love their country enough to endure the Democrats’ and MSM shock and awe assault on anyone who dares oppose Obama’s anti-American, far left liberal and socialist/progressive transformation of America.

Today, June 3rd are extremely important primaries in which we can send two fearless committed conservatives to DC.

Running for U.S. Senate Mississippi is Chris McDaniel. http://bit.ly/1ks36b4 McDaniel has been endorsed by Gov. Sarah Palin, Conservative Campaign Committee, Mark Levin, Tea Party Express, Laura Ingraham, the American Conservative Union, FreedomWorks, Club for Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund, Madison Project, Family Research Action PAC, the Tea Party Patriots Citizen’s Fund, Young Americans for Liberty and countless other conservative leaders and organizations. http://bit.ly/1jMRhaW

Fearless fighter conservative Steve Lonegan is running for U.S. Congress New Jersey. Lonegan supports full repeal of Obamacare. He will fight to repeal the Dodd-Frank Law that justifies future bailouts with intense job-killing regulations on the financial industry. Lonegan opposes Common Core, new federal gun control laws and taxpayer funded abortions.

Steve Lonegan has been endorsed by Gov. Sarah Palin, Conservative Campaign Committee, Tea Party Express and Gun Owners of America PVF http://bit.ly/1oozJG5

Alice died, as did a little bit more of what has made this extraordinarily successful experiment called America great.

Winning these primary elections are crucial steps towards taking Alice’s and our America back.

Chairman, Conservative Campaign Committee

Incredible!

Arlene from Israel

Last night, I had written my post, which spoke about my unease regarding the possibility of US support for the Fatah-Hamas unity government. What I said was:

“Kerry, while expressing concern about Hamas, has had communication with Abbas and will be meeting with him.

“He is saying the US will not accept the unity government ‘initially’. Not encouraging. He’s saying, ‘Convince me, guys.’”

~~~~~~~~~~
Well, it seems that when Kerry said “not initially,” he meant they would wait two or three hours. I sent out that posting, turned back to check the news one last time for the night, and found that the Obama administration had announced a decision to “work with” the new unity government.
There was not even a pretense of assessing the new government before making a decision. That decision was made up front.
And so, no, I am obviously not surprised that this is the way the US administration decided to go. But I am shocked at the alacrity with which they signed on, without a semblance of serious consideration of the potential problems.
~~~~~~~~~~

What I felt – this was about 1 AM – was the degree to which we are confronting an enemy in the White House. Also not new, not a surprise. (Don’t write, please! to ask me, didn’t I know?) But this was so “in our face.” This decision to immediately give support to a government that includes Hamas – a terrorist entity dedicated to Israel’s destruction.

~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, Congress is looking seriously at cutting funds to this new unity government. Members of Congress are none too pleased with the decision of the White House/State Department. I will have a great deal more to say about this in coming days.
~~~~~~~~~~

Deputy Minister of Defense Danny Danon yesterday referred to the US decision as a matter of “moral choice.” And indeed, right he is. There is a question of US law – which actually prohibits support for a terrorist entity – and then the question of what is simply right.

It is, I recognize, foolish to talk about moral decisions and the Obama administration in the same breath.

~~~~~~~~~~
The government of Israel is quite furious at this decision and has voiced grave “disappointment” in the US.
The Security Cabinet has announced it has “formed a team to consider plans of action given the new reality that has been created, and ahead of diplomatic and security situations that will be created in the future.”
Among the various responses under consider is partial annexation (e.g. of the Gush Etzion area), although this would not happen immediately. According to a JPost article, it would not happen before the projected unity government elections.
http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Security-cabinet-reviewing-action-plans-after-Palestinian-unity-govt-takes-oath-355198
~~~~~~~~~~

My thought here, then, is Hey! Here we are again with a perfect example of why the Legal Grounds Campaign is so important. It lays the legal groundwork for decisions on annexation that may follow. It provides strength and an attitude of certainty with regard to our rights. Right now, in spite of such proposals for annexation, support is insufficient. Please! will those of you who care, and are willing to help us fight this fight during this window of time, contact me.

~~~~~~~~~~
Among the things the Israeli government has already decided is to make commuting between Gaza and the PA areas of Judea and Samaria difficult, and to prevent voting for the unity government in eastern Jerusalem (most Arabs living there hold residency and not citizenship cards, and would want to be counted in the PA polity). With this, there will be efforts to prevent Hamas participation in elections in Judea and Samaria.
There is talk, as well, about holding back money Israel collects in taxes for the PA. There is always talk about this, is there not? There seems to be a reluctance because the PA screams that they will collapse without this money, and we are causing people to suffer, etc. etc. But the PA still owes us a large fortune for electricity.
I will have a great deal to say about Israeli responses in coming days, without question.
~~~~~~~~~~

Khaled Abu Toameh has written an analysis of what issues are still to be dealt with, with the formation of this new government. As the article says: Explosive issues are left hanging in the air. These issues involve not only the elections, but the melding of security forces and more (emphasis added):

“It’s also unrealistic to believe that PA leadership would rush to add tens of thousands of Hamas employees to its payroll, especially in wake of the economic hardships facing the government.

“On the other hand, those who think Hamas would allow Fatah-dominated security forces to return to the Gaza Strip as a result of the April 23 reconciliation pact are living in an illusion.

“For now, both Hamas and Fatah prefer to avoid answering questions that could spoil the euphoria over the ‘historic’ decision to end their differences.”

http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Analysis-Palestinian-unity-govt-leaves-explosive-issues-hanging-in-the-air-355203

~~~~~~~~~~
In line with Abu Toameh’s comments, it is worth noting here that outgoing Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh, on the day when the new government was sworn in, declared:
“I am not concerned about the resistance; it is in good condition. Today there is an army, in the form of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades — it is advanced and the resistance is advanced.”
Israeli intelligence estimates that Hamas has some 10-12,000 rockets. Paraphrasing Abu Toameh, anyone who expects Hamas to surrender its position of “resistance, is floating in the stratosphere.
http://www.timesofisrael.com/hamas-pm-military-resistance-in-good-condition/
~~~~~~~~~~

I leave further analysis and deeper sharing of information to another day. For tonight begins the holiday of Shavuot, and it is time to turn my focus to other, more eternal, matters.

Shavuot, a harvest festival, marks our receiving of the Torah at Sinai. We counted seven weeks from the time of Pesach, to reach this point. Now it is time for joy and celebration – and the tradition of study through the night.

We must turn to the One who graced us with the extraordinary and eternal gift of Torah, and not count on the good offices of men and women.

~~~~~~~~~~
To all who will be celebrating, I wish a Chag Shavuot Sameach!
